I would give my eye teeth to own any of your pieces and redecorate around it as well. They are all high art to me and I love each Furniture Fable as well! You are very imaginative, talented and your fans love you!

Such a fascinating story. Pricing is such a challenge. I used to sell baskets I made at craft fairs. Couldn’t sell them for $45 but they flew out of the stand at $75. I found if I didn’t value my work my customers didn’t either. Your work is so gorgeous, I’ve always thought you undervalued it. Can’t wait for 2024!

Marketing metamorphosis! Congratulations in addressing marketing/value. You clearly are gaining a greater understanding of your customer base. I believe you are in the “unique art” business, another reason your artist’s signature burned into your pieces adds value.

What an exciting 2023 so far! Your opportunities in theatre, music and furniture embellishment are wonderful! I am not at all surprised that your more unique designs sold better than “safer” choices. Your furniture is always striking and beautiful. Your canvas is the furniture you use to create your art. And you are a gifted artist!🌸

Hi,Andy 🙂 I love real wood furniture( not the "sawdust and glue" cheap stuff). I also love the styling / shape of the older furniture....quality bones so to speak.You take a beat up,abused piece and restore the bones and then you transform it into something unique. Myself, i'd rather buy real wood even if it costs a bit more...it will last much longer. It also has nicer,more interesting shapes to it, serpentine/ now front,MCM, antique beveled glass, beautiful wood grain...character from the era it was made in. And then...you transform the piece into something that has never been seen in a big box store. Truly eye catching and special. Sometimes the piece is " soft spoken" and sometimes it yells " look at me!" I think that your "quieter" pieces will sell for sure,but it buyer wants it as part of the "theme " for a room ( like the "nursery " pieces or the calm,stately ones). A suggestion for the white serpentine dresser ...change the hardware to something a bit more bold coloured....black,navy blue, metallic...think...the sparkling,small brooch on a Victorian lady's plain dress...kind of vibe. For your "nursery" furniture; perhaps sell them as a group during the month of May/ June. A LOT of babies are born then. Maybe tweek the colours a bit so they are more unisex. Some people would rather bright, primary colours for their nursery as opposed to the classic pastels. Marketing...use your fancy or "louder" words to draw attention ...catch phrases...like you posted for your "Floral Riot" table. John's whiskey bar cabinet would sell in a heart beat because it's not too big and it has the moody, glamourous Art Deco style ( Deco and Nouveau are always sought after) Recall that the 1920's/30's Coca-Cola tin signs are still very desirable.( That might be a cool project if you had a piece from that era....wash stand?) I actually have 2 wash stands....with the hole in the middle for the basin. I'd like to know how you would fix them up. I can send you some pics if you like.😁

I have a friend who sells jewelry. She has it for sale at a local shop. Her items weren’t selling so asked her husband to go change the prices 30% lower. He actually made them higher and most of the items sold! It’s crazy how people react.

Andie you're amazing. You don't have to apologize for your theatre talent. The pieces you designed and refinished speak for themselves, each one a unique beauty. It's true that "some people" hesitate to purchase if they see the price as low. I guess it makes them question "their" judgement. I was in furniture sales for 10 years and I saw it first hand. So trust your instincts., Lady. I hope you stick around for a long time! 😊

That was super interesting! Thank you for the breakdown of your experience with FBM. I love the idea that really good quality artistic pieces are apparently more sought after. It does make sense, as does the pricing for your time. Time is money - did I just make that up?! Nope, I think that’s an old saying 😂. Thank you again for another fun and interesting video. I can't wait to see the next "episode" of your "aunt" and Biff! No wonder you keep getting called to perform and direct and coach in the theatre! You are truly gifted. I tend to agree with your presumptions about price and exclusivity. Years ago I read a book about a young group of women who were opening a dress shop. Victorian days, all dresses made to order, etc. They kept offering discounted prices and were not getting any orders. They were close to going out of business. One of them decided to raise their prices and say they had a waiting list, even though they had no money. Miraculously, they started having customers begging them to be moved up, pay more for their services, etc. When my mother and I owned a very nice consignment store and a dress wouldn't sell, we would hang it behind the counter and tell people it was on "hold". You can't imagine the amount of attention the previously unwanted dress would get then! So, I think you are right! Longwindedly! Is that a word? You are very talented, have a great vocabulary which you employ very well, and are funny and charming at the same time. I am looking forward to your adventures in 2024! Merry Christmas to you and your lovely family.

Andy, I've thoroughly enjoyed all your fables this year. I love your artistic process and seeing your visions come to life; there were some stunning beauties this year. How wonderful that you had the opportunity to also be involved with your other love, the theater as well. I also found all the stats on your business and FBM really interesting. I mean, who knew? One other factor that I would add to the mix and that I've heard from other furniture refinishers/sellers is the demographics of where you are located. Some things sell better/worse in certain areas, but I suppose that's to be expected. In any case, so looking forward the last holiday fable and all the new ones in 2024!

I agree that unique sells. My last 2 pieces sold quickly for full price and they were each one of a kind. Other pieces that were nicely refinished but no eye catching details were the ones that people were always trying to get a bargain on and didn’t get the interest. I now am doing the designs that make me excited, or I do a really quick, easy flip that I can sell really cheaply.

This was awesome. I have enjoyed watching all of your furniture fables and I cannot even believe that some of those haven’t sold. When I was doing this, I found that the more interesting things definitely got a lot more attention, even if it was just an unusual color. People like nostalgia, and they like weird or unusual or artistic. I could sell a white dresser easy for a price that was fair for me and the customer. I could sell colorful Frida chairs to everyone in N. Texas for a great price if I had them to sell. I miss painting furniture.

I live in Sonoma County and would love to get my hands on the Dark Academia desk...I love it so and the whole way through this video, I was dreading you saying that it had sold. An Etsy shop would make it easier to find and purchase the pieces from your channel as I can't find it on FB Marketplace. I changed my location to your area but no luck. Oh well, I will have to dream about it and wait for your Etsy shop! Thanks for updating us and reviewing what happened to the pieces, I had forgotten about the blow dryer paint coffee table and the whimsical bench with the plants in it. So glad you shared this! First, I’m re-inspired to finish old and work on new pieces. So thank you! Second, I loved hearing the numbers from FB marketplace. I’m SUPER curious about my market now. I’ve put pieces up that have - not kidding - nearly 1000 clicks and dozens of saves within a week, BUT SLOW SALES! I don’t even know what to make of that. Third, I love, love, love to see that your more eclectic pieces have sold for a premium! I’m so tired of seeing advice to “keep it neutral so it sells.” I may try experimenting a bit more and seeing what happens. Awesome video. Can’t wait to see what 2024 brings!!

I'm so glad to hear this, thanks so much!! Yes - so interesting about the neutral thing, right? I suppose it also largely depends on where we all are selling (demographics etc) but this was truly eye opening for me. Best of luck with yours, and looking forward to more fun in 24!

I loved your hair cut video. I actually did it myself and I like the look! I would have purchased the paint pour table (which I loved) even with the scratch. I have three dogs and everything in my house has scratch marks! I wish my daughter lived in the US and not the UK. She would LOVE the pink dresser for her daughter. It is definitely her taste (and she has beautiful taste). I am really looking forward to seeing your 2024 creations!!!!

Interesting, thanks for sharing. All of your pieces look appealing and sellable. During my first job at a Duty Free shop, a few bargain priced cigarette brands like Chesterfield weren't selling - until we raised the prices to be on par with popular brands like Marlboro. Suddenly, they started moving off the shelf. At that time, I insisted on paying for my own meals on dates, considering myself to be a modern, egalitarian woman. When I was between jobs and had less funds, out of necessity I let the guy pay. Suddenly, the person I was seeing took me more seriously, and subsequent prospects treated me with more regard, as well, so I continued that way even though it seemed illogical. What I gleaned from those experiences is that people subconsciously feel that they get what they pay for. A higher cost equals higher quality. I love a bargain so it's an alien concept to me, the less I pay, the more I treasure an item 😊 I noticed this with my jewelry pieces, also. I tried to make them affordable. My stuff is made from semi-precious gemstones and the best metals I can afford, yet it was plastic beads and and non-precious metals that were commanding top dollar in catalogs. When I worked up the nerve to raise my prices, I sold more pieces. When I advised women to let the man pay until they're in an established relationship, they called me a pampered princess. I don't make the rules, I just accidentally started to abide by them and my worth became more substantial in the eyes of others. The one exception being my husband. When we were dating, I did him a favor by loaning him $100 to ship something important and time-sensitive internationally when he forgot his wallet - he has spent the rest of our time together trying to repay me a thousand times over.

@FurnitureFablesbyAndy Happy holidays and thank you 💖 Yes, Pakistani Muslim men are very sweet, conscientious, pure, and reverential toward women, unlike what Indian and Western media would imply. Partly, it's his ISFJ personality type that also dominates the nursing industry, but his friends from the Masjid are the same way - sweet, wise, hard working, gracious, and always giving good advice with a positive attitude.

Yep it's "opposite" to logic. I think the dark academia desk needs more "dark", IMO. I think the floral paper worn edges need some grunge maybe? Of course by now it may have sold but it seems it's one that could go into your more unique category with another slight tweak. The gold and white dresser I think also needs something to make it stand out from the crowd of similar others... hmm. Maybe play with faux wood grain hearkening back to the original veneer? It needs a kick anyway. IMO... you do great work and the market is crazy anyway.

I too sell on FBM and also discovered that if I am getting little or no interest with an item, raising the price will usually get it sold. Go figure??? But it seems to work. And I dont raise the price by a little, I will usually raise the price by alot🤯🤯🤯 hmmmmm........

This was so interesting and such a learning tool for those of us who flip pieces. Andy, would you consider doing a follow up video to answer questions? I’m shocked at your success on Facebook marketplace. I don’t have luck there. Was your big ticket pieces sold to locals or did you have to ship? Your choice of descriptive words were awesome…could you expand on how you choose your words? I’m afraid to ship anything but always thought that’s the only way I’m gonna break out. Really, really great content on this one. Thanks so much for your honesty and transparency. I just love this channel

Hi! This was very insightful. I too have been trying to figure out the Marketplace riddle. How do you do your staging? Do you actually stage your pieces in your home or do you use app? All your photos are so beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
@FurnitureFablesbyAndy
@FurnitureFablesbyAndy 7 месяцев назад
Thanks so much! I stage my pieces in my workshop, and photgraph them there. Generally I use Canvas to do just a minimal amount of editing to tweak the light a little, and to add a logo and change the cropping. I believe it's best to use square pics for FM, and in Canva I can get the proportions correct. 👍
