The owner of Kashmir was kind and generous to Danny, above all, coming with a whole set of proper cutlery to all that food! A caring man in Wilton street, Bradford!
What I get from The Kashmir: Jug of Water = Free (can be refilled if needed) Salad = Free Mint Sauce = Free (can be refilled if needed) 3 Poppadoms = Free 3 Chapattis = Free (with Curry) Onion Bhajis Shami Kebabs Chicken Masala (or Keema Curry) Multicoloured Pilau Rice (Pink, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, White)
Hi Karen, is this original restaurant, because the Kashmir I used to go to in the seventies was on Leeds and Bradford road, whereas this one looks like it’s on the end of a street. I just wondered if they moved to another location in Bradford.
@@Bluedog4712 It's always been there on Wilton Street since 1950. Just metres away from where PC Sharon Beshenivsky was killed in 2005, outside Universal Express Travel Agents on Morley Street. The backstreet to the left of Universal Express was used for a fight scene in Commando 3 (2019), along with many more Bradford locations. Slightly further up is International, which was visited by Len Goodman and Ainsley Harriott. I'm fairly sure that Gordon Ramsay has been there once too. Near the top of Morley Street is Back Ashgrove West, which is where one of Peter Sutcliffe's victims was killed. At the opposite end of Wilton Street is where Omar Khan's used to be. It featured in the Firewall (Greater Manchester) episode of The Ghost Squad (2005), which was all filmed in Bradford. Three streets up on the other side of Little Horton Lane is The Karachi, which Rick Stein has visited. Around the corner from Morley Street is the bottom of Great Horton Road, where some late-night takeaways are. Dynamo magician filmed part of either Concrete Playground (2006) or Magician Impossible (2011-2014) in either Royals or Omar's, but I'm 99% sure it was Royal's. Some other TV shows have visited Omar's to talk try their massive nan challenge. And The Ghost Squad (2005) filmed in either Royal's or Omar's too. The Alhambra at the bottom of Morley Street has been filmed for various different things. And City Park and City Hall across the road have been used in at least 50 films and TV shows.
@@danielgardecki1046 the Kashmir I used to go in was more of a cafe than a restaurant, with none of the fancy dishes you get today, just Keema, lamb and chicken (on the bone only) We used go in after the nightclub (Scamps) as late as 4.00am and get it as hot as they could make it, but we were only around 19 or 20! Certainly couldn’t do it now!
Used to regularly go the Kashmir when studying at Bradford Uni. The curries are authentic, the way Asians make them at home. Meat masala with crispy naans was our favourite dish. Real hearty.
I discovered this place about 30 years ago and I made a point of going there every time I visited Bradford. Haven't been for about 10 or 15 years . Seeing this vid has reminded me that I really need to go again.
Is it really that good?! Not many places that will give youbthebwow factor but this seems good from all the comments Might drive up to break my fast there!
I live in Leeds but when I am in Bradford I look forward to visiting the Kashmir. If you want complex, sophisticated Indian food probably not for you but if you want straightforward relatively inexpensive food I recommend. Also the chapatis are complimentary and you can bring your own drinks e.g. beer or wine .
Fond memories of going there at 2.30am after leaving Queens Hall opposite on a Friday night back in the 90s That downstairs area used to have white tiled walls too, reminded me of a bathroom. Was dead cheap for a curry.
I love the Kash - salty, greasy, tasty goodness at a fair price! I have been many, many times, and NEVER had a bad stomach afterwards. The kitchen is spotless, and they're a nice bunch of guys.
Fantastic service, the chap who served you, damn impressive. Looks reasonable value too, obviously I can't taste the food but it definitely looks nice.
Love how Danny is always in control of his audience. Once he's had enough polite chit-chat and wants to crack on with his grub it's a case of "anyway ...(thumbs up)....take care then guys" and everybody immediately understands it is the end of the conversation 😂
"On the road again, just can't wait to get on the road again. The life I love is making music with my friends. And I can't wait to get on the road again." Great videos pal! Positive vibe! Keep up the great work!
Hello, Danny, thank you for reviewing the Kashmir, I started going there in 1973, a Keema Vindaloo with the Side Salad and three Chapatti's and a Jug of Water only cost £0.30p in those days, damned good value. Extra chapatti's were free of charge, I asked the waiter why they didn't charge for extra chapatti's and he replyed that a pound of chapatti flour cost them £0.10p and you can make a lot of chapattis from a pound of flour. These days I generally get two Tandoori Roti's with my meal instead of three chapatti's or one Naan bread, the Roti is a happy medium between chapatti and Naan. Have you tried Omar's, they serve the largest Naan bread in Yorkshire, the Notorious Naan is so large that it takes three waiters to carry one to the diners table. Have a look for RU-vid videos of Omar's Notoriuos Naan Challenge.
Me and my mate Stan would go to Kashmir or the Cellar as we called it back in the day after a night out driving from Smiths night club in Warrington to Bradford. The starters look to be frozen then deep fried so not freshly made.Stick to the curry dishes in the Cellar and you cant go wrong.
The upstairs bit on the left is also part of The Kashmir, with it's own entrance, along with another set of steps to the downstairs bit of the restaurant.
There's normally onions on there too, which is what most of the salad consists of, but there didn't seem to be any on his saucer. Does Danny like onions? Did he ask for more tomato and cucumbers instead of onions? I have no idea, as I only watch his Bradford vids.
I used to eat alot of curry dishes, not anymore, i recently learned that i got stage 3c colon cancer, now, i can only take satisfaction from watching your videos, cheers mate.
😢😢..hope improves mate.. what food you stuck with at the moment if don't mind me asking sir...is it the spices n meats that you can't have..cheers take care fella
The Chicken Makhani from this place has always been my go-to, no dish quite like it 😅 - it's a shame the starters have let them down on this visit, I love popping into this place.
This place is historic in my curry life. My mate Phil was at Uni in Bradford and lived 5 mins walk from here in the mid 90's. Two of us drove from St. Helens regular to visit Phil for beers, curry, Bottom at theatre etc. The Kashmiri was so good. You got a curry for £2.25 and 3 chapati, you had to ask for rice if you wanted that instead. The place was amazing. After watching this review, I realised you don't know about Asian food at all. If you don't know what you are eating, then why do you review it..? Unusual review to me. Anyhow nice to see the old place.
Probabley he heard about the place and took the trip down to try it out lol not much more than that since he reviews places he has heard a lot about and is recomended.
You get the better curries in the run down places than the glitzy ones. And cheaper too. Off to Bradford now to the asian supermarket to get my stuff. 10 mile drive to curry heaven
I just found you in you tube. I’m hooked. I probably watched 20-30 videos already. Because of you I had a craving for Sunday roast, which I made today. Thanks
If "Rate My Takeaway" includes being served on proper crockery, instead of eating out of takeaway containers, might as well have used the seating inside. 💁
I had my first-ever Asian curry in Bradford, at a leaving do. I asked for the mildest dish possible and they recommended prawn korma with pilau rice and naan. I'd never eaten rice either (apart from Ambrosia creamed rice as a kid). In later life I once ate Bengali chicken tikka masala every evening for a week. LOL
The mortuary was on the same street many years ago. I always thought it was a strange setting for such a place. I'm sure the locals wondered what the strange comings and going were at all hours of the day and night.
11:59 Prime example of human nature - we always pre-judge. When Danny says the kebab is over cooked and then seconds later, after tasting it says it's bang on! We all do it 🤣
Hey Danny me and my husband love watching your videos your absolute brilliant on what you do I think you should try Azuma Chinese restaurant in Bradford town centre x
Love the vids mate, I have never had a chicken sheikh kebab that I like, I think restaurants in uk should stick to the lamb version, I do love fish pakora too, it’s not widely available where I live, if it’s done right, it’s beautiful, has to be light and fresh with a twist of lemon
memories right there.. was a buzzing student/bar district 20 odd years ago (not sure how it goes these days) many great nights would finish eating that grub!
Danny love your down to earth videos, come over to Stockholm Sweden and try the Ellora In Zinkensdam fantastic chicken madras, lamb tikka butter masala and great naan breads your welcome mate
Danny, would love you to get down to Bristol one day - some cracking food. Few recommendations (1) Urban Tandoor - hilarious tiktok, unreal curries & great staff, (2) Taka Taka - best gyros you'll find in the UK, & (3) Sandwich Sandwich - HUGE and amazing sandwiches. All would be unreal videos - bit of a trek for you but well worth it 👍
Urban Tandoor was nothing special when I went. Sandwich Sandwich before the revamp was just a sandwich shop that didn't do anything particularly unique. Maybe it's changed now. Chai Sai was one of the better Indians in Bristol but has since closed.
@@spammodump partly thinking of video quality with urban - they're big on social media so would make for a funny video, curries are also very good still & their samosa is unreal. also plenty of smaller places in bris that'd be good - carribean croft, cafe cuba for something a bit different, koocha mezze bar for the BEST veggie kebabs, oowee burgers
@@Moisty100x Or maybe they got picked because they look nice. Someone decides (I don't know who) which Bradford restaurants get entered into national competitions. They always pick the ones which are nicely decorated, and they nearly always win. However none of them taste as good, as the plain, and simple looking, The Kashmir.
Honestly Danny I've lived in Bradford all my life and this may be the oldest but by no means the best. For the best Asian breakfast go to sweet centre on lumb lane and for curry try Shimla Shipley . But for all round amazing food my cafe lahore although Kashmir is known for it's famous dish cooked by that famous chef off the tv Rick stein
Danny I recommended you to go to de roma in wigan went there for a kebab mega its cheap and it took 6 in a half minutes for them to cook it orederd donner kebab with chillie sauce and lettice and Mayo and a garlic bread box chips and mayo
Beginners mistake....only starter to ever order in there is the onion bhajis! Cheap and cheerful and a bit rough round the edges but for cheap half decent curry it's ok. Get yourself to Shimla Spice in Shipley......
As a bradfordian, where we are weaned from the breast straight to curry, Kashmir, Pind and especially Sultans are in my humble opinion the best curries in Bradford 👍👍
I used to work at this restaurant back in 1991 for 5 years as a waiter we had to warm up the starters in oil sheesh kebabs should never be heated up again in oil usually restaurants reheat them in the microwave or they will go very hard they are still using this method 30 years later lol
The Kashmir was one of the best curries in Bradford and used to be way better a few years ago. Pretty sure they changed management or the chef and now I don't think its anywhere near as good as it used to be.
You should try Sultan in Frizinghall Danny or Lahoree Grillz in Great Horton. It’s bizarre isn’t it the Kashmir - they really need to spend some money doing that place up as the food is cracking
Hey hey Danny your in good old bradford. I love going to that curry house it's my favourite. But I'll tell you a secret ( I saw them making their curry's with pataks curry paste) 🙈 I was a little pissed off by then. Still nice authentic taste though.. love your reviews and your little one is your double ❤ wow love love love you and your family ❤
@@paul_raftery well all I can say is I always thought that a curry was made from authentic spices not a jar already made, you know a home made curry, guess that's why mine home made curry's are rubbish then, like I say pataks paste is the way to go now. 😊
A mate of mine used to rave about a curry place where he got a takeaway on his way home from the pub, One night he sneaked a peek in the kitchen and saw they were using Patak's products. He was so disappointed he never went there again 😛
The curries at Kashmir are top notch. The service however is poor. It looks old and need of a bit of renovation inside but it is property authentic pakistani food.
Open since 1950. Always has 5/5 in the hygiene ratings (unlike most of the restaurants and takeaways on Leeds Road). Always tastes better than all of the multi-award winning restaurants in Bradford, which constantly get entered into national competitions, and always win.
