Revisited: Abandoned Toys R Us - Monroeville, PA 

Man, I miss Toys R Us so much! That store was part of my childhood, and I will forever cherish those memories.

My day is always better when I can come home from work at night and watch a new video from you Wallie.

They had a Spirit Halloween store open there for a few weeks shortly after they closed. Always thought they should have kept that a yearly tradition, it was the perfect building for that place. 🎃

I remember Toys R Us from back in the sixties and seeing all those toys as a kid. It was something special to me. I could only dream , my folks didn’t really have much money but they were great memories.

Ain't no shame to love and hang on to your memories you love no shame in it at all.😊

I understand the feeling, I’ve seen a lot of places closed forever. I grew up in the late 80s and early 90s. From my early adolescent to my teenage years to my current adult life my fondest memory was Johnnys Toys! It was my jam as a kid b/c it was a local toy store for me to go to. I still remember all the toy stores back in the day, Kaybees toys in the mall, Toys R US, Children’s Palace, K Mart, Sears etc…It’s unfortunate to see a lot of places just vanish as if they never existed before, just a dilapidated /demolished building or an empty lot. I enjoy watching videos like this b/c I don’t have the means of doing it myself. I’d be tempted to go in the place and look around just from my own curiosity and get in trouble for trespassing. The world is to much of a crazy place right now, I’m sure you’re careful no matter where you go. There’s a nostalgia about going to the older toy stores that existed back in the day, a legit toy store and looking at the cool stuff, it’s not the same anymore. To each their own!😎✌️

Toys R Us outperform my childhood store Child World back in the 80s. They were take over by Toys R Us. By that time I was well past that stage. Still Toys R Us is where I bought my kids toys from. You’re right. These Macys add ons are the same as the old stores.

I was an 80s Toys R Us kid. My Mom worked at 2 of them, 1 in Grand Rapids, Michigan off of 28th street, and the other one in Battle Creek, Michigan over by the Lakeview Square mall. Those were the days. Great video as usual Wallie!

Children's Palace was a Pittsburgh based toy store. My sister shopped in Children's Palace for Christmas for toys for her kids. I don't know if my sister shopped in toys r us. Though, maybe she did.

My uncle was a manager at that Toys r us back in the 80's into the 90's. I remember when it was closing and I went last few days it was open for just some memories and to buy something there one last time

Yea wallie I know exactly what you mean, I got the store closing banner from the walnutport Kmart which that they had it rolled up for me, I just couldn't believe how big it was when I unrolled it. Those things are huge.

There was a Toys R Us in my city in Minnesota and it closed, it was later replaced by The Salvation Army and when I went inside, it still looked like it was a Toys R Us but it's just clothes and other stuff. My childhood store is gone. I remember my mother taking me there and I used to play at the train set and looking at those little battery cars for kids. And I remember buying a really old game station that had really old games (Like from the early 80s) and it was pretty fun. Fun memories is all I can say.

There is an abandoned bk near me in Fairborn Ohio do you think you can possibly make a video of it? There’s a few other abandoned places here too!

I’m in monroeville a lot to go to the Jeannette Pennsylvania area for my fathers company who fixes things, I just passed this on us route 22 not long ago and seen this abandoned, I’m surprised it never gotten repurchased or demolished yet especially since it’s been 6 years since the chain liquidated, this was also one of my childhood locations since I used to live in newkensington Pennsylvania.

Hi Wallie, all the UK stores went to. There’s a couple reopening again though here. They are Toys R Us separate stores but currently small ones. There’s one just opened at the Trafford Centre not far from me. Will check it out over Summer holidays. Won’t be the same as the big old stores though! Love your videos by the way 😊

That was my Toys R Us. I also used to work at that Dealership when it was Monroeville Chrysler-Jeep from 2001-2010. I've drifted that parking lot in a S10, massive burnouts in SRT8's and drove over every hill between the 2 with my Jeep. Memories......

Fondly remember going to Cranberry every Saturday with my family and my dad would drop my mom off at Wal Mart and my dad, brother and i would walk down to Toys R Us and look at everything and sometimes get a new SNES game lol

I have many different memories of blaring at my parents to take a pitstop here to look around when I was younger, and I'd always end up walking out with something. Then the day they started to have the 'going out' sale came, and my parents took me; both to get me something, & to look for themselves since they came here too when they were younger. That was a sad day; what was usually bright and colorful had most of the lights out and the majority of the shelves were just barren. I still walked out with something, though. I think it was a matchbox collectors' vehicle I'd wanted for like a year at the time. I just don't know where it wound up. Whatever the case; Thank you for uploading this, really brought back some good ones to me.

wallie i got a 2010 toyota camry Le with the 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine and 6 speed automatic transmission. It only has 82,000 kilometers on it now. I plan on driving it for MANY YEARS. I'm getting the transmission fuid changed soon. I already had the coolant changed out to new toyota coolant.

Luckily, there is one 130 miles from my location in Kentucky which will be a nice little family road trip to go eat one of my favorite roast Beef sandwich shops from my childhood!

I miss the original Toys R Us I grew up with it. I loved going there as a kid with my parents, sister, and grandparents. My sister and I would spend hours trying to pick out just the right toys to bring home and play with. The new Toys R Us format is a complete and total joke. Like you said Macy’s is just trying to get foot traffic in seeing they haven’t been doing well as of recently and I totally agree with you on that.

I like how this abandoned Toys R Us is located next door to the 1978 Dawn Of The Dead mall, my favourite zombie movie of all time!👍 Also like some of those Kia's in the parking lot too especially that EV6 I've just spotted which looks very nice btw👌

I remember when I went to the Office Max that closed in Charleston, WV, I asked one of the workers what they would gonna do when they had unsold merchandise and they said they would toss it in the dumpster. It’s a shame that they do that what they should do is honestly ship it to different stores instead of putting it to waste.

The Macy's "Toys-R-Us" seems more like an effort to appeal to those people with some cash who remember shopping at the Toys-R-Us stores either as children or as parents - just a means to artificially goose in-store traffic.

You just need about 34,000 more subscribers for this channel to get one of those play buttons and you definitely deserve one. One of my favorite videos that you’ve done was the abandoned Kmart in Beckley, WV which is becoming an Academy Sports Apparel store. Unfortunately I don’t know when they will officially open it but I definitely think that whenever they open it that you will try to do a video of it and if you do a video I will definitely be watching it. I can’t believe it’s still abandoned after all these years, and now that Monroeville’s Chuck E. Cheese is gone, there’s absolutely nothing for a kid there now

I'm a retail merchandiser, and you are exactly right about the toys r us/macy's partnership.. blah blah blah.. I can't with Macy's.. they bought out/took over so many stores, and they are everywhere. I guess they are successful, but they are so boring and cookie cutter

U should check out Ross Dress for Less in Fort Wayne IN that used to be a toys r us but closed in 2018

I hope and pray for your goals and dreams Wallie 🙏❤️ It breaks my heart to see childhood shows,movies,places,ect just all get canceled or rot away and never come back.... I miss them and wish to go back in time to explore them again but sadly we can't and have to except life as it goses on I always remember going to the Toys R Us in Boardmen Ohio as a kid I'm not sure if there are any remaining locations if so I hope to got to one someday even though I'm 18 gonna be 19 in 2 months
