Revisiting A 2010s Horror Classic 

Just so you know, if you keep going down the never-ending hallway, you can come across a specimen.

I didn’t know I needed an hour long video of Spooky’s lore at 12am.

Japanese native here. For room 165, the poster next to the board says "Education without education. We are all the whales. With a groan. A bloody whale is there and important (?). I will come to a man. Meaning." Well I pretty much translated it with brute force, but it's totally something out of google translate and doesn't make any sense. Five notes on the board say "Dog(犬)", "Cat(ネコ)", "Fish"(魚), "Bug(バグ)" and "Bad Scar(悪の傷)". Again, seems to me these are just random words and have nothing to do with a storyline.

Your soothing recap and narration periodically interrupted by a scared, loud "OH FUCK" is very funny. 😂

I’m not sure if anyone here has pointed out the nods and blunt reference to Unit 731 in the game. It’s interesting for it to be involved. But that tape recording talking about “logs” being nailed together is what Japanese workers were calling the victims of Unit 731 to disguise their illegal actions. And then obviously the placard with 731 on it. But then the latter speech of Spooky talking to supposed troops saying “we will no longer be ignored”, reminded me of the mentality that Sino Japan had against the world. it made me view the meaning of 'how effective was specimen _ at killing people' a little different since I don't think I ever saw the ending for this game.

this video deserves more views and this dude deserves more subscribers😭😭😭 I typically don’t watch videos this long in ONE SITTING but i watched this all the way through, his voice is so soothing but not boring

Ah yes. Smells like my childhood ❤️ I've been binge-rewatching sjm videos lately, and I'm always happy to see some new ones pop up! Keep it up man! 😁 Yeah there are many horror references here, like the resident evil saga, adventure time, FNAF, the ring, etc, plus some of the specimen in story mode are different than in endless mode, with different chases too, if that's something of interest to you Also, if you're a Horror ARG enjoyer, I'd suggest giving a looksie at Shipwrecked 64, though it is a pretty tough one. Definitely harder than Spooky's.

Pretty sure in the pacman arcade machine you're controlling spooky and you're supposed to catch pacman himself. Also I think the passwords are akin to like old NES game passwords where you write them down and can use them in the main menu to return to that point in the game.

I love this game, great video! Do you plan on covering the DLCs in the future? Aside from Endless Mode (which isn't exacly a DLC in all honesty), both Karamari Hospital and Dollhouse expand on the story and are pretty interesting!

I don't know why, but I immediately got a strong feeling that this game was made up for this video, similary to crow 64. It feels weirdly timeless, and is in line with the recent digital horror trend. Loved the video, great work dude.

Love to see this game still getting attention, it's still one of my most beloved horror games from the 2010's Also I'm sure someone already pointed this out but by the way you narrate your playthrough it sounds like you're not aware that the rooms are mostly picked out at random, and the only ones that aren't are the ones with the specimen In the pacman arcade game you actually play as spooky instead of pacman which is why the controls felt a bit clunky for you, since Spooky is a ghost the objective is to kill pacman that's why when Spooky touches Pacman he gets killed and you get a "YOU WIN!" screen Also if you continued going down the infinite hallway you would encounter something very fun :) Overrall great video, liked n subbed!

For Room 165, three of the notes on the board say "Bug", "Cat", and "Dog". The other two I have no clue about.

I remember this one back when it came out on pc. Cool to know its still available on modern consoles

you should check out Junius B. It's a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure analog horror. The aesthetic reminds me of a weird Adult Swim cartoon you'd see at 3am. its pretty unknown right now but I dont wanna gatekeep

For some reason the game took pity on me when it came to the parasite specimen? I died to it twice and it just...never showed up again afterwards. I thought I triggered some kinda mercy/amateur mode, lol Great vid!

A look through the wiki goes a long way to explain these specimen you encountered blindly, but not all notes are tied to the same guy. If you want a continuation of the romantic guy's note you gotta play endless mode which got 5 unique specimens that are either ripped from their source material, or baffling to say the least. Also, here's what each specimen is a reference to: 1 - Jumpscares in general (or rather Kira's opinion towards them as being cheap, like cardboard) 2 - Loveglub from adventure time 3 - Resident Evil (yeah its easy to not notice this, I didn't know until Kira's interview) 4 - Ringu in general (Kira made it number 4 ironically by accident). She's just called "Ringu" but if you fight her in endless mode or in the dollhouse hellgate sequence she is ten times FREAKING TERRIFYING AND MORE LITERAL TO HER SOURCE MATERIAL 5 - Silent Hill, duh (I think a third of Kira's monsters are Silent hill references. He loves it to death) 6 - Ben Drowned with Weeping angel mechanics and the most disturbing game over sequence in history 7 - The most originally conceived specimen ever, as its literally a manifestation of mental trauma and confronting your evil demons. Can only be encountered once and can instant kill you if it catches you 8 - Over the Garden Wall and Wendigos. In HD, he gets a terrifying buff that makes him dangerous in rooms with winding halls. 9 - Red from NES Godzilla, with his boss form inspired by Ganondorf from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. He is active from the very beginning and is basically a punishment for afking. If you go afk without pausing the game for a long time (or go down that endless hall), he comes out and instant kills you. 10 - The Thing, before Among us was a thing. He can outrun you if you run. 11 - This one is weird, as he's inspired by a Little Big Planet level Kira made about an evil beef factory, but with a mixed of Satanism thrown into the mix. He can hide your doors 12 - A mansion within a mansion, that's basically a mix between Clocktower and The Shining. The mansion itself is the specimen, and the old man is its host 13 - Amnesia water monster
