I just noticed, I got an email from Etsy saying my payment has been charged to my card on file. Do I have to "pay" to have a shop? It was $10.40, but that's more than what I made this month:P
THANK YOU! So many of our viewers have insisted that Etsy does not take payments directly from your account, but I know for a fact that I gave them permission to do so in the "fine print" when I opened my Etsy shop. If you have a lot of listings that all renewed automatically, that might be what they charged you for. However, it would take 52 listings all renewing at once to add up to $10.40, so I would write them a note and ask for a statement explaining these charges. AND... I would open a dedicated bank account for my Etsy shop just to make sure they don't take money out of an account I am using to pay bills - that could result in bounced checks or a nasty surprise at the ATM. 😉
Sue, I admire how knowledgeable, humble and graceful you are. You addressed issuses regarding people wanting to contact you as well as info about your eBay. You inform people very articulate and very kindly when others might not have been as graceful as you were. Its been a joy getting to know you on RU-vid. We all need a friend like you in our lives. Be blessed Sue!! 💚
That would be asking to get broken in on. Sue's face is on the internet so anyone that lives around her could see that and know what is in her house. I know you mean well but you could put Sue in jeopardy with that request and requests for more info on her.
I don't even think of this stuff breaking into somebody's house and it's creepy a purely innocent request and make it out to be something worse oh internet
Sue, I love your videos. You are very kind to take your time and teach us so much. I love seeing you shop with Jocelyn, too. I'm too unorganized to buy and sell - it is a lot of work. But I like watching and learning. I really admire you and your sense of humor.
Great idea to write your average weight amounts/costs for different box and shipping sizes Sue! Keeping a ledger for future reference is definitely up my alley. Thank you for the suggestion.
You and Joselyn have changed my life. Not exaggerating. My eBay shop has gone from 50 listings, $100 a month to 300 listings and $600 this month. Also opened an Etsy store and have made 2 sales there as well. So thank you.
Thanks for the video. I did have a Craft store on Etsy but haven't used it in quite some time. I mainly sell on Ebay now. I may start that up again or open another one with vintage items. I guess when I retire I should look at different venues to sell items. I just didn't want to be overloaded. Thanks and love your advice and what works and what doesn't.
Sue....I am always thrilled to see when you have posted a new video!!!. Even though I have never been interested in lamps before, I am watching those as well just to learn from you. Side note...I have picked up so many great finds here in Germany and France but the shipping cost and time is not the same as the states so I may be saving some of my amazing treasures (especially the larger ones) to sell until we move back to Southern PA. Your offer to use your Etsy description was great and so very helpful!
I rewired my first lamp a couple weeks ago, thanks to you. I was wondering if you knew how to wire a plug? I have a couple from the 40s I’d like to keep. The man you found to go with your chalkware lamps is terrific.
Sue, I have probably dealt with you in the past. I've been a doll collector for many, many years. I don't buy like I used to because as my health got worse I needed to downsize and so I bought a smaller home which doesn't have the room that I used to have to display and store dolls. I love antique dolls, especially Vintage Barbie and dolls from the 50's-60's. I collected some modern dolls for a few years and while I enjoyed it my true love was the older dolls. I will occasionally pick up a Robert Tonner doll or anything small that doesn't take up a lot of room. I actually worked for Marie Osmond for a long while running her doll group and forum community, I was able to travel and go to all sorts of club gatherings and doll conventions. Lots of special memories and wonderful doll friends. I would love to see a video of some of your collection. I have gotten rid of most of mine simply because lack of room, but have kept a three or four dozen that had special meaning to me. At one time I probably had over 2500 dolls so it was quite a downsize. Would also love to hear your knowledge about dolls and you always state that Nippon is going to make a come back. I certainly hope so cause I really like a lot of their pieces. Please do a video on that too. Thanks for the great videos.
My son and I are picking up mugs, vases, little cute stuff..also canisters I can't wait to list,..I found 5 large canister Apple canisters all for 5 dollars. In my area little rural area, glass rules over jewelry and other vintage ...
you have so much knowledge, because of you and Joslyn I've decided to startup my Etsy shop again. I've picked up about 20 different items. I will let you know when I get them listed and would love your honest opinion. My draw back is shipping woes, wanting to make sure I get that right :-). you would love the Goodwills down here in Fl, I have 9 that I can hit on a Saturday and they are huge, so much going though these stores everyday! anyway thanks for all your information!
Hi Sue! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge & self with us! I’ve been making & selling my hand made jewelry & fused & lampworked glass for over 25 years now. My pricing has always been reasonable. My philosophy is to have people of all types, no matter their income, be able to enjoy, wear & use the items I make. As a result, my sales have always been fine. Mind you, I have not needed this to be my main source of income, so I was able to sell at reasonable prices. Not cheap, since I’m a perfectionist & my work is very good (if I do say so myself!), but reasonable. I’m certain that if I sold my items at prices that were truly reflective of the amount of time each one takes to make (as in figuring in an hourly salary for myself, studio upkeep, small business housekeeping stuff, etc.), each would be extremely expensive & out of most folks’ price range. As a reseller, you don’t need to worry about exactly that, though you still need to consider the amount of time it takes to find items, research them (if needed), list them, package & mail them, etc. Along with all the activities that go along with those factors & housekeeping on your Etsy shop & RU-vid channel. I wonder if your customers think about that. From the comments on this channel, it seems like your subscribers do! My point here is that I appreciate, agree with & share your current pricing philosophy! Since you’re not using Etsy as your main source of income, offering your items at lower price points is definitely a good idea and should definitely increase your sales. This will allow more people to buy and enjoy the treasures you offer! Being one of those people who might now be able to afford buying from you, thank you very much! You’re awesome!
So I am still on the gathering vintage things to list in my etsy shop (Trashkateer Treasures). I am definitely doing mugs since one of my crafted products are coasters. Makes sense they can buy a coaster and a mug. I've also found a couple cool other things to sell. Will probably list after the holiday weekend. I also have a youtube channel (Lady Taka) where I share my thrift and garage sale finds along with a few unboxings.
I've been selling on eBay for a few years now and I'm pleased with it. I have opened an Etsy account but it's very confusing to me. I haven't published anything yet because you suggested a separate bank account and I haven't done that yet. I love watching you and Jocelyn and learning about so many different things to sell that I used to think as junk. Thank you for all your wonderful information and your cheerful personality.
HI sue...I'm going to be doing etsy soon and need all the help I can get..a friend has been doing ebay for years..when she gets a item she takes all the pictures, then does a info card, she then packs it up, weighs it and writes it down and lightly tapes label to box and puts in in her spare room..so when she lists it she has it all done... When it sells she puts buyers info on it and it's ready to go... Love your black kitty..I just had to take my black kitty to vet today, he has a bad infection in his a.gland..yuck..so he's at the dr..and I'm sure not happy with me till I get him in the morning..enjoy your video and crazy lamp lady too. .what fun you guys have..when I retire I'm moving back to PA. ..Lynn
For just started your own channel all by yourself ( with a little bit of help from your cat) your doing a great job!!! Your sense of humor is wonderful and your so down to earth which is very refreshing to see. God bless you Sue and good luck with everything!
My grandmother actually had the male figure. He had a female companion and they both had little crystal dishes that were in front of them so I think he's missing his dish. She used them for mints and nuts actually and later when she moved to a small apartment used them for holding jewelry and keys.
Hello Sue! Another informative video! great job. I think your idea of having those of us with shops commenting and asking for advice is a good one. It is my understanding (and I may be wrong) that the more traffic a shop/item has the higher up it shows when those items are searched. Etsy is in business to make money so it only makes sense that they would give preference to shops that have more sales and views. So the more views an item has, the higher priority it receives in the search, the more likely it is to sell, the more likely Etsy is to make it's percentage. All of that is perfectly understandable from a business stand point, it can be frustrating for the beginning seller. It seems that if you don't have a platform to drive traffic to your shop, your items will sit and sit and sit. Just my two cents for what it's worth. btw, I do have shop if anyone wants to check it out it's makesmehappycrafts on etsy. or you can find the link on my youtube channel.
Hi Sue! I LOVE your videos and thank you for sharing your vast knowledge. I feel like a more informed shopper. I noticed that you/Jocelyn often will often buy things with chips or defects. Can you talk about that? I always thought if not perfect don't buy it. Thanks again... YOU ROCK!
You are doing great! I am inspired to start doing videos myself. I look a the Crazy Lamp Lady -- Jocolyn is so beautiful no wonder she is so popular. I think no one wants to see a mature gray haired woman -- but you prove that theory wrong! Us older ladies have lots of knowledge to share and it's important to do so. Thanks!
Sue, I love the fact you are so willing to help others. That speaks volumes about your character. I wish there were more people in the world like you. You rock....🗝
Hi Sue 👋👋👋👋 I just love watching your videos I love your friendship with joselyn and when u shop together you both are my best friends in my head keep up the great work !!!!!!
Sue, great line - I thought I was Bonwit Teller, turns out I’m K-Mart. No way Sue, you are Nieman Marcus all the way. Interesting subject, how to price, what to sell. Every resellers nemesis. Enjoyed the time with you, one day I’ll open an Etsy and eBay store and sell there, along with my booth at an antique store. Just awaiting some guidance from you and my daughter.
I absolutely love the way you are helping all of us with our Etsy. I'm still trying to get them to take my zip code, lol... I was wondering where and how you research items to get the best descriptions. I bought a really nice piece which is a lamp shade at our Goodwill. A few isles over I found the base! But there isn't any wiring or center pole. So I started my research on ebay. I looked at 193 pages of lamp shades, each with 50 per page. I never saw anything like this one. So where would you suggest that I look next? I love doing the research and when I find it, it's like a Whoo Hooo moment!
Oh my gosh, when you said "it's easier to get your hands on cocaine" I just lost it! I blurted out a laugh. Some of the things you say alone, make it worth watching your videos. Along with all the useful information and word definitions you give. You have a future long time subscriber in me for sure! Thank-You Sue
You are my new favorite RU-vid channel. I love your common sense advice tempered with your kindness and sharing spirit. One comment on shipping - I use Etsy because if you use their shipping and something goes missing, Etsy will side with you. I recently had an express mail shipment to France ($$$!) which got stuck here in New York for three weeks! He filed a claim but Etsy sided with me. Now, of course, I want to make things right for my customer even though he left a one star review - but filing an international claim isn't so easy. By the way, by way of introduction, I have two Etsy stores TheVeiledWoman and SomewherebytheSea. The latter is rapidly filling up with thrift finds after watching you and Jocelyn while I sew.
Interesting to see the blackamoor lamps & "nut dish man"! And one of your commenters mentioned a figure that had been painted a lighter skin tone?!? It's been a while since I worked at an antique mall in the 1990's but back then African Americans were among the collectors who would come in looking for blackamoors & mammy dolls--that surprised me a bit. Now attitudes seem to have changed--for example one of the royals wore a blackamoor brooch to an engagement party for Meghan Markle & that sparked outrage. Anyway, wonderful that you found "Nut Man" to go with his lamp friends!
Sue, I love your stove. I have one that I cannot use. While this is not your forum to sell it to your viewers. Any ideas? I also wanted to say that I have been selling on a site Mercari for the past 6 months or so, and I'm up to 88 sales! You and Joselyn have taught me so much and have helped me immensely. I have lost money on postage and some items arrived broken. All learning. Thank you both again!
Hi Sue...You and Jocelyn have given me so much inspiration. Love thrift store shopping with the two of you !! I now go to good will, channel my inner sue and Jocelyn, pick up glassware that I think you would choose and immediately turn it over to see the "MARK ". ( like I know what I'm doing LOL ) Today I found a small bowl that I thought might be something the two of you would pick . I flipped it over and there was a mark but it looked like Japanese symbols.?!?! I took a photo and decided to do some research, to no avail. Is there a special place to reference this info, then how do you even go about it??? I don't know what it says..lol. Is this piece something that should just be left on the shelf at goodwill?? I have really enjoyed watching both of your channels. I look forward to new videos AND I am learning so much ! I really like your Etsy workshops. I am saving all those videos so that when I retire in 6 months I can open my shop.
Your videos are so helpful and informative, and very much appreciated. I'm at a point in my life where I don't like myself much anymore due to my current career and I have decided to step down from a decently paying position to a much lower income into a career where I can have much more pride, and fulfillment, in what I do. I've always loved thrifting and finding old, awesome unique things, to buy for myself, but it's an addiction that has become an obsession. Since stumbling across you and Jocelyn I have been inspired to feed my obsession by passing my awesome finds onto others, and hopefully, with my new life changing career, supplement my income so I can enjoy a comfortable, relaxing, stress-free life. I've recently started my Etsy shop, baby steps at a time, I only have 3 things listed so far as my biggest hurdle was getting a better internet provider (coming soon!). I'd like your opinion on my shop as it is so far.... HumdingersWhatnots.
Yeah Sue!!! So glad to hear you did leave your review on that bad sale. Reviews are important....good and bad!!👍👎 I always try to do both...I feel it always helps the next buyer out there to make informed decisions to buy online! Good reviews are just as important as the bad ones (maybe even more so)!! Most people are always so quick to point out the bad but not the good. Let's work together to keep everyone in the know!!!😆 KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!!! 🤗
THANK YOU for giving us such GREAT info about selling. I have been watching you and Jocelyn for a couple of months...and LOVE you both...! You both are such an inspiration to me...! Shelly T...
I have a similar set(pair) of Nubian princes, mine are pink & gold. Both came with small clear glass containers that fit perfectly in the lap of the figure.
Thanks for the info. That gave me the idea to go out and get a little red candle in a glass cup for my guy - his name is Greg, by the way - so that when I finish the restoration and list them for sale he will have something besides his good wishes in his lap. A lot of people have been saying they think Greg's original purpose was as an incense burner, but burning incense was a very avant garde, beatnik sort of thing to do back in the 50's when these figures were being sold - just not very mainstream. So I think there was some other purpose - holding change, a small ashtray maybe - I'm not sure, but incense would be pretty low on my list of guesses... Do you have any idea what your glass containers might have been used for?
@@suemeonyoutube I think a small change caddy. There isn't an indentation that would serve to hold a cigarette. If my mind can remember, I'll send you a photo tomorrow of the prince/princess & glass dish.
I agree with your pricing. I have a friend that uses eBay selling prices as her go to instead of sold prices of the item. I like pricing my pieces as affordable. I just make sure I AT LEAST double the price I bought it for plus shipping. That seems to work for me.
Hi Sue, me and Caroline from the UK are new to your channel and so far your Esty videos have been excellent. We have both decided we're going to open our own store as we have a lot of ceramic collectibles pre 2000 just sitting in our cellar. We both love looking round for interesting and unique items and cluttered our house up so an Etsy store would be great to get involved with, our only issue so far is trying to make up a store name (It's harder than one thinks). I jokingly said my name is Rob so how about RobMe :) still thinking!!!!!
As always, an amazing video. The find at the start of the show was amazing! I wonder if they made matching lamps for him as well? Vous êtes le meilleur, Sue!
Hey, Hope! I actually think he was a part of the ladies' set. Those dresser-top change holders were a big thing in the 50's and 60's, so it would make sense that one would be paired up with some boudoir lamps. I'd really love to know if there were more little pieces like this - perhaps there was an entire family of little boudoir pieces... :-)
You really motivated me to sell off some of my jewelry hoard now that I am retired. I used Ebay rather than Etsy. In 2 weeks, I've made almost $350.00.
You and Jocelyn are helping me so much, I never thought about doing any of this before and now I’ve got an ETSY shop of my very own! Would love to hear any feedback on my shop... Serendipity by Mona. Thanks!
Love your videos! Good down to earth info. I’d like to hear your take on the new “Shipping for Free” policy. I’ve seen some other RU-vidr’s who are not in favor of it , please share your thoughts on it.
We would be such good friends. Haha. I read anything and everything I can get my hands on. Lol. Back of shampoo bottles, cereal boxes, you name it. You’re awesome, Sue!!
Personally, I'd prefer the handmade pillow, but that's because I love both handmade things AND old things. Are you thinking about items to offer in your Etsy store? If so, please follow up with your shop name... 😉
This maybe to soon for you to do a video on, but I'm fairly new at the Etsy game, I have people favoring items and I want to know how to do sales for those favored item in hopes to make a sale... And I also start a youtube channel But it SUCKS.. lol. I'm not a speaker or like being on camera. But I show my hauls. I want LOVE your advice.. Tammy for Texas!
Sue, I really enjoy watching your videos, but especially love watching you and the crazy lamp lady at the resale stores. You are a wealth of knowledge, and I have learned a lot from you.
Love all your information.I have listed an item on my etsy store...if I search my item it shows up as a listing and I see that I have 7 views. but when I search my store it says nothing available? I am confused. Any suggestions..also need advice on marketing my items/shop. Please advice and keep your wonderful info coming. God Bless
Me too!! Some of the comments in The shopping videos are hilarious. Thanks again for all your educational info. I’m learning a lot and making better choices thrifting. Cleaning up items today so I can get Etsy up and running soon. ❤️❤️❤️
Sue how in the world do you all find things to determine cost? I bought a 12 piece pink vintage fine porcelain coffee/tea set in the box, perfect condition with metal handles, white inside with gold rim. I searched google and couldn’t find anything that resembles them. There even is a sticker on box, NY-WEP1/70C. You all are so smart.
