With Hogwarts Legacy set to reveal today. Here is a look on the closest we ever got to an Open World Action Adventure Harry Potter Game. Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince Game was developed by EA & released in 2009.
Does this game have free camera controls? I do play OotP recently but the right stick controls the wand, not the camera. Was this changed for HBP or did you used a mod or something?
@TriForce17 Would have loved to showcase Quidditch & Combat too had the video not become unnecessarily long. But TY for your feedback & would definitely insert Buckbeak gameplay in Prisoner of Azkaban video.
@@TukkiTan if you have a Vr headset you need to check out „seeker Vr“. It has a full free to expire quidditch field and entire Hogwarts + grounds to explore on broom
@@Aphox considering the title, among other things, I wish to formally inform you, with no intent to offend that your comment has got me considering your level of intellect is of low calibre. you should train your brain, perhaps the archives are incomplete.
Absolutely ! The best thing about Hogwarts Legacy is that its story would not be based on books or movies so there is no holding back plus the Hogwarts would be completely redesigned from scratch so it would be refreshing to have new interpretation of all locations both within & beyond Hogwarts.
The graphics from the promo do not look THAT much better compared to this. In terms of options and freedom of movement it appears to be much improved but the graphics are marginally better. Look at griffindor’s common room: the game play one is only slightly more realistic than this one.
I don’t know why it took so long for them to make a Harry Potter game were you play as your own character. People don’t really care about just playing as Harry Potter and going through the stories of the books, people want their own Hogwarts experience.that’s what everyone has wanted for a long time,
I think it was because the movies were still coming out. Back then, you would sell a lot more copies of a game if it was released alongside a popular movie instead of releasing a “choose your own adventure” type of experience.
There was something like that back on playstation 3 when pottermore was a thing. U can make a character and go to Hogwarts but it really wasn’t much to explore. Pretty sure it was just one room. U could also duel other online players.
Hardware fidelity. A game that ambitious would have been a disappointment since most people didn't have PC's or consoles that could render such a detailed environment with that many NPC's . It was easier to make a linear game based around the story of the films than an open world one that gives you a lot of freedom of choice and they needed the game to be small enough to play on all big name consoles/PC so character customisation would have been a nono or very limited. I played this game and the order of the phoenix before it. They were considered technological marvels for the ps2 at the time but now they look empty and disappointing.
The Order and Half-Blood games had many issues, but I can't deny that giving 10-12 y.o. me Hogwarts to explore was a life lasting experience. To this day, every time I read or write fanfictions, I have the whole layout in my head as it was presented in these games. As I kid spent maybe even a 100 hours just wandering around in Order's game, including a ridiculously long time that I spent looking for Luna's last stolen item in the "endgame quest". :D
@@LOSTmyHOST That sounds bad. What gamebreaking bugs did you find? Once the camera stopped moving after learning the stupor spell from Fred and George about 30 minutes in and I had to restart. That might've been the only time for me.
@@SylvesterLazarus I think it was the psp version that have so many problems. My character will banish if I walk whenever the stairs were moving, another one was some task were imposible to do. The people whom you need to talk to initiate the task were not there, Zacharias in the library for example (that was the worst one, I remember thinking I have to do it in other order so I will finish the others task and then comeback for that one but it was impossible because he was not there, I had to start another save file from the beginning, and it happen several times) Other I remember was never fully find the Potter plotter newspaper, I always was missing at least two of them I even follow a tutorial to where to find all of them and at the end still be missing at least two. Other one was walking throu painting my game would froze, especially if I travel to the clock tower.
This game was way ahead of its time. The texture, NPC interaction, and even ray of light shines through the window. I've played so many hours back in the day
What are you talking about. Even in 2009 when the game released, there was nothing spectacular about it. Just a dumbed-down version of OotP with heavily reused assets. Even twelve year old me back then was disappointed .
the technical aspect of this game was way better than a lot of other games of 2009, I remember OOTP on ps2 and it was amazing, the sounds, textures, animations...Etc
On one hand, I feel bummed that they didn't model Hogwarts after the movie version of it, because it looks amazing, but seeing how some locations are bigger in Legacy (in other words, they are more book-friendly/realistic [Griffindor Common Room looking like it could actually house all Gryffindors at the same time, at last]), it's only better. Can't wait to see it myself. EDIT: That is not to say that I'm against any changes in regards to movie version, it's simply my nostalgia towards that particular version. HP5 game was great, because it was the first time we saw a fully developed Hogwarts made with movie version in mind. Before the game we only saw the glimpses of Hogwarts in the movies. The game put it all together and it was great! In the end, it's mostly the "new", previously unseen locations that I'm most excited to see, like the Kitchen. Also, we will get to see Hogsmeade and possibly the Gringotts bank, awesome!
I don't blame them for making it different from the movie. They even took some from the books. But I like to think of it as something familiar but new. To makes us feel that we know where we are and yet change things around so as we play, we feel that we are in a different age to the books/films as the game will be taking place in 1800s
I like to think they designed the new Hogwarts with a lot of inspiration from the books, as well as of course classic locations in the movie. Can’t wait to see the Hogwarts kitchens and things like that which we could only imagine from the books.
@@dread1262 well it’s supposed to be pretty true to the wizarding world lore and the history of Hogwarts, so yeah I guess. Completely new story though obviously
@@dread1262 It most likely won't be canon as J.K Rowling wasn't there to directly write the story or help out with the game. The game is only heavily inspired by her works.
Oh, this game and Order of the Phoenix both had a great re-creation of Hogwarts, it really felt like being in there. Played it many, many times. The Lego ones were really great as well, I still play 'em. Excited for Legacy!
The order of the Phoenix game was better in my opinion loved being able to climb things and the fact you could attack random students with spells and battle them Always thought using the right stick to move your wand around and cast different spells by moving a certain way. I wonder how the spell system will work in game
Probably will be like smash square/triangle/circle just like an hack and slash game Moving the right sticks to cast spells was so fun and different from any other game. We could easily switch between a high amount of spells.
Maybe they'll do like a hold r2 puts you in attack stance so you can freely move the sticks around to do spells? But it just seems like it would be way too time consuming. I am also wondering how they're going to handle that. I was watching another video that mentioned that you may only be able to hold 3 or 4 at a time, and maybe be able to upgrade that as time goes on... But who knows. I'm really excited to find out though. I just hope it really does come out this year.
phoenix was much better because this one was really just 3 minigames over and over with a bit of walking around inbetween. i still loved exploring the castle cus thoses 2 games was the best version of hogwarts that actuly feelt like the version from the films but yea hogwarts legacy looks like what i actuly want
I just enjoyed exploring the castle the game itself was a little basic but it was the best version of hogwarts in a video game and actuly felt like the one from the films
I got this game when I was around 12 years old. I am from Hungary, and as a kid, we watched the movies with Hungarian dub, as I did not speak any English. The game then came out with Hungarian dub as well, made by the original actors. It was truly amazing. Such great memories...
The first psx game still amazes me how it managed to capture the magical atmosphere of the books with such limited tools, I remember being a kid enjoying it so fucking much, just running around the castle was amazing
OOTP and HBP games were phenomenal in their own ways, the ability to roam around the castle, to do potions, play quidditch and duel etc. loved how most of the actors voice acted their characters in the game, just wish dan and emma voiced harry and hermione :(
These recreations of the movies' castle was impressive back in the day, and HBP's version is the most complete version yet. But I always felt like it was too bare-bones when compared to the castles from PS, COS, and POA which took more creative liberties. Hogwarts Legacy seems like it will be the best of both worlds!
I loved this game. Re played it so much as a 10 year old just to walk around hogwarts. So excited for hogwarts legacy because it’ll be a whole different level.
I still have a CD with this game, PC version, i used to love just walking by the castle and battle. Open Wolrd games are just the best because even after the storymode ends, you still have plenty to do.
this was unironically my favorite harry potter game when i was a young lad, i loved this game even though it wasn't necessarily the best game, but it brought me joy. IM so damn excited for hogwarts legacy, i love how ambitious they're going for it
This and Order were always my personal favorites bc of the ability to just freely walk around a mapped out Hogwarts castle from the films. Still love Chamber and Prisoner for the gameplay.
Oh man, the good old days. As a kid I really loved this game. I think back in the day I replayed this game for 10 times or so. One of the best Harry Potter games out there for me, I would do anything to play this game again. I used to play it on PS3. But considering Hogwarts Legacy is coming, I’m very excited for that and looking forward with all the things you can do and explore!
My childhood was all the harry potter games. think my first ever video game was philosopher's stone on ps1. Think i actuly played a few of the games before going ot see the films
I remember the joy of exploring Hogwarts in both The Order Of the Phoenix and the Half Blood Prince. I can't wait to go back in Hogwarts Legacy. I'm sure it will allow us to experience our beloved school of witchcraft and wizardry like never before!
This was my favourite HP game, just because of the open world. It also had classes like Quidditch and Potions and Duelling Club. Wasn't the best but it was good for back then.
I loved this game, never got to finish it or fallow the story at all since i were too young to even understand where to go, and in later years the game lost the ability to save for some reason :( But i loved it, spent months just walking around the castle making stuff fly and ignite. Great times
I remember playing Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in the Wii. It was fairly open and you could explore lots of Hogwarts, but the game was like 5hrs long..
I'm so happy they aren't sticking with the film look. They are actually using other characters from the books. Hogwarts Legacy is the game I've been waiting for since I played Sorcerer's Stone on PS1
The first 2 games on PS1 and first 3 on PS2 had much more depth in gameplay, exploration and freedom. This one and Order of the Phoenix are undeniably beautiful for the fact that they nailed movie Hogwarts to a tie, the minigames like Wizard Chess, Gobstones, Dueling and Potion clubs were so addicting, but they lacked depth and exploration. Hopefully, Hogwarts Legacy will have the best of both worlds and some...
Never got to play this but I really want to find a copy for ps3 now. I have recently played Order of the Phoenix and it was also really fun to explore in!
I hold Order of the Phoenix quite highly due to my nostalgia sense. Also because it's one of the last games I played together with my family. That and Goblet of Fire because it was a soft hack and slash kind of game.
Este juego me encantó en su momento y me parecían gráficos impresionantes, recuerdo perderme por horas explorando el castillo, que rápido pasa el tiempo xD
I got this game as CD game but can't install it anymore because my new PC blocks the installation... anyone got any clues why a pc would block a basic CD?
i remember playing this as a 12 year old kid and thinking it was the best thing ever. although the game had many flaws, it still has a special place in my heart.
Played this on PS3 years ago and I recently realized I did not get all the trophies for it. Wanting to revisit Hogwarts and get platinum trophy in it I just re-bought this game on ebay for just over $20 which is great since most copies are $30 or more.
The Order of the Phoenix was also open world. I believe this game reused most of those assets and added some bits and removed other. I combination of the two makes up a better game. In Order of the Phoenix you couldn't make potions etc. But you could play Wizard Chess with other students. And i honestly kinda missed that in this one. So this wasn't the only game of it's kind. But in many ways, it might have been slightly better. I just hope Hogwarts Legacy adds in such things as Wizard Chess as a side activity you can take part in against the AI. I actually have both of these for Xbox 360 still. I might actually dig them up and replay them soon on my Series X if they work on it. I assume they do?
I know the games wouldn't usually be compared, but some of the halls and classrooms feel like Rockstars "Bully". The trailer they put out showed that your character would have a room to refill all of their spells and the like, and bully had the chem lab in your room to restock plus they are both private universities.
I actually miss the order of the phoenix game so much. I remember my dad gave it to me when I was a kid and I had a code for my computer but I LOST IT YEARS LATER AND COULD NEVER PLAY IT AGAIN I WAS SO FRUSTRATED
This game slaps, I have quite a few memories of running around the castle, moving the joystick to cast spells and dueling people. Oh, and potions. I never liked potions, though
