I will never buy another Polyend product, but I have grown to love the OG Play. It’s one of the fastest and most quirked up midi sequencers around. The sample editing is non-existent, but good enough to use as drum machine for most styles of electronic music.

I love trackers, they really are amazing, it’s like the matrix where he describes getting used to the matrix console “I just see blonde, brunette, redhead” it’s like that, you don’t see all the data in the same way once you get used to it. Just like learning to read you no longer see the letters you just see the word

3:37 renoise tracker is so much fun, yes I spent couple of months going through tutorials, and now work only with it, and I don't even produce jungle, speedcore stuff...

KORG is now doing with WS/OS/MW just what Polyend did with the Play, minus the upgrade feature. I think Polyend wanted to do something good, but failed to predict the outrage that came from their price calculation. But I saw another similar case on the KORG UK website. The Nautilus 61 costs there 1599, and the Nautilus AT 1999. The Upgrade costs 429. This adds only mono Aftertouch, not poly AT. And Nautilusses with and without AT are both available in stores (here in the EU).

Polyend should have learn from Retroid and sell a DIY upgrade kit for $200+shipping. Or learn from TE and sell the plus for $1299…

Weaver needs to do a video of him trying / using Renoise immediately. On not buying hardware because it’s easier in the DAW, that’s actually not always the case. Hardware gives you a different approach, which you wouldn’t get with Abelton etc. I deffo use hardware live and its awesome.

I fire up schism and within a few minutes I'm either looking up shortcuts for what I remember impulse can do, or using shortcuts and not consciously remembering how I knew it could be done. renoise has a deep core familiarity coming from a tracker background, but I haven't (yet) been able to penetrate the layering that seems to be stacked on top. I feel like I need a weekend retreat to push through...

@@poofygoof the trick to Renoise is learning spacing (which is just like ableton but vertical), having tightly cut samples and understanding sample commands. There is a sample command cheat sheet built into the program so that part is really easy. Renoise also supports free 3rd party tool that allow it to be viewed as a regular DAW (piano roll) if needed.

@@RecMirage I may have been too oblique in my comment. I started on trackers in 1991 and the core tracker format of renoise seems like an old friend (including effects in hexadecimal), but everything else that's built around the tracker core is a little intimidating. even jeskola buzz seemed more approachable. I went from trackers to using MIDI sequencers and multitrack tape, so I think if can map that physical world back to renoise everything will be aces, but haven't been able to invest the time yet.

Yeah I truly got bent over on this deal, thanks for making it so obvious. The fact that BJ went so hard to defend them when they ran out of coupons in 5 minutes really underscores the abusive nature of this industry. He wasn't sincere about his outrage (blaming the marks) but at least he was smart enough to get out. Good for him 👏

They did give original play owners half off the upgrade, and if buy a product straight out the gate regardless of the brand or what the product does, theres always the risk that you could have just bought what turns into an expensive paperweight in 6 months.

I bought a bunch of synths and other hardware, most of it is in cupboards now. I use a couple of controllers and an interface but all sounds are in the box again now. Got sick of dusting midi cables and power bricks, fuckin ball ache.

hardware is where it's at. get yo eyes off the screen and on the machines. option paralysis is still possible but it can aslo make the workflow faster if you use them right.

Dude, I don't get why people don't understand that the upgraded price stuff is the exact same shit as with phones.and computers. This years model costs $700. Next year the same phone will cost $400 while the new one costs $700. Trade in your new phone, and you get a special discoubt in your new phone. It's the EXACT. SAME. SHIT.

Welcome to Bad Gear Reviewers! this is such a great example of the internet eating itself. i thought it was strange when people who review gear became personalities and celebrities, but at least they are providing a useful service. weaverbeats is trying to build a channel around talking about the gear reviewers and reporting on the internet drama around products. He's a troll with a youtube channel. I get that he's a comedian, but he's not funny enough to pull this off. This is idiocracy in real time. compare this channel to the meticulous artistry of Bad Gear and you realize that there is a lot of unnecessary white noise out there.

dont you think the aalanche of music production hard/software is just a gimmick, a fad, the wild west of music production market and it will end soon? same as with ReVoLuTiOnArY aI and shit. ive lost track of new gadgets and just dgaf at this point, they all suck, they dilute attention and more likely the more gadgets/sofware - the less unification between the |matters of music production" etc. it just doesnt make sense, lets make another sp404 yeah. its like nfts lol. in the end we will probably still have disabletons, frooty poos and other existing stuff, but these things - teenage engineerins, polyends etc - wont stick

a lot of it does, but there are local musicians and those on tour and I see them with an SP, Push, Behringer synths, deluge, Korg and Roland keyboards live. I've never seen someone use a Polyend live tho. I play live and don't perform with my laptop. It's actually easier to plug a mic into the SP with computer stems then bringing my computer.

@@playeveryday01 agreed fully, have to iterate i didnt mean older gadgets - like, sp, mpc and korgs etc. but the newer ones are gimmicky for sure. very low chance of this new-player-on-the-market being polished by ten tears of existence simply because its new and its harder to gain enough community to keep the gadget going because the market is oversaturated

there's a large design space for music production boxes that range in size from laptops to phones with various physical interfaces. the line between hardware and software of the given box is increasingly unimportant, and the barrier of entry into that space is lowering over time due to silicon advances and physical fabrication cost reduction. so of course we're going to see a ton of entries in the space. I think what you're commenting on is more architectural: what are the abstract "shapes" of the boxes we use for music production in terms of UI and workflow. I really don't see the play+ as much related to the Tracker, and closer to ableton arrangement view.
