Revisiting the Wii U's HORRIFIC Commercials 

I still regularly quote Double Yoshi Exploshi, Mario and Peach Together ; Me and Gina together, and Hot Buttered Popcorn that's a deal. This era of advertising is the pinnacle of humanity

Double Yoshi Exploshii still haunts me to this day.

I genuinely wonder how so many of these ads made it past everyone and no one raised any major issues. Even just "The New Controller" is some truly terrible wording. And then it's just a downhill spiral from there. Somehow Nintendo went from being a premium game company to the Fisher Price of gaming. But hey at least they're strangely enjoyable to watch now despite the dangerously high cringe levels

Man, this era of marketing was so bizarre. I'm pretty sure all of the "new controller" stuff and the very creative name of "Wii U" is what put off my parents from wanting to get one, to my chagrin. It was painful explaining to them how it's a totally new console that just happens to look very similar and has nearly the same name! 😅

Them saying “Upgrade to Wii U” on those commercials made the console sound like a “Pro” version of the original Wii, instead of making it sound like an entirely brand console…It also didn’t help that they said “New Controller” or “Gamepad”, since they made it sound like it’s also an accessory for the Wii. They really confused people for not showing ALL of the Wii U’s exclusive features that weren’t on the Wii, or not specifically telling people on the ads that the Wii U is an entirely brand new separate console.And as for the cringe commercials, I’m pretty it made a ton of people (except some kids, like myself back then lol, who didn’t understand the whole situation back then) uncomfortable and unwilling to buy the console. The Wii commercials made the Wii look like a FUN console for everyone.

These ads crush the soul. It feels like a piece of me died rewatching these.
