Hi Rich, Can you please make one video about Autodesk desktop connecter, and what is the purpose & how its working in the BIM
@bim360
@bim360 9 месяцев назад
hi Girir, Autodesk Desktop Connector is a tool developed by Autodesk to facilitate collaboration and file management within Autodesk products, particularly in the context of Building Information Modeling (BIM). However, keep in mind that software tools and features can evolve, so it's a good idea to check for the latest information from Autodesk or other reliable sources. Purpose: The purpose of Autodesk Desktop Connector is to bridge the gap between the desktop environment and cloud storage, allowing users to seamlessly access and manage files stored in Autodesk cloud-based services directly from their desktop applications. It is often used in conjunction with Autodesk BIM 360, a cloud-based platform for project delivery and construction management. Key Features and Functions: Cloud Storage Integration: Autodesk Desktop Connector integrates with Autodesk cloud storage services, allowing users to link their desktop applications (such as Revit) with files stored in the cloud. Access Control and Permissions: It provides access control and permissions management, allowing project administrators to control who can access, edit, and manage project files. Version Control: It helps manage versions of files, enabling users to work on the latest version of a model or document and track changes over time. Real-Time Collaboration: Teams can work collaboratively on BIM projects, even if they are geographically dispersed. Changes made by one user are reflected in real-time for others, facilitating a more collaborative and streamlined workflow. File Management: Users can open, save, and sync files directly from their desktop applications, making it easier to work on BIM projects with large and complex datasets. Working in BIM: In the context of BIM, Autodesk Desktop Connector helps streamline the collaboration and coordination aspects of a project. BIM involves creating and managing digital representations of the physical and functional characteristics of a building or infrastructure. With Autodesk Desktop Connector: Multiple Disciplines Collaboration: Teams working on different disciplines (architecture, engineering, construction) can collaborate more efficiently by accessing and updating BIM models stored in the cloud. Centralized Data: BIM models and associated files can be centrally stored in the cloud, making it easier for all project stakeholders to access the latest information. Revision Tracking: The tool helps in tracking revisions and changes made to BIM models, providing a history of edits and facilitating coordination among team members.

Thank u so much for your efforts and very informative tutorials. However, using an e-transmit plug-in is the best way to upgrade models. Sorry, your way is long and difficult. Could u plz do a video using such a tool? Regards
@bim360
@bim360 7 месяцев назад
thanks for your input but i dont think you understand the use of etransmit. eTransmit in Autodesk Revit is primarily designed for packaging and transmitting a Revit project, including its associated files, to others. It is not a tool for upgrading the actual version of the Revit model.

@@bim360 You are right dear.. I did a mistake and now I lost the connection between my arch. Model and my elect. Model.. How can I solve this .plz
@bim360
@bim360 6 месяцев назад
If you have lost the connection between your architectural model and electrical model in Autodesk Revit, there are a few steps you can take to try and resolve the issue: 1. **Check Linked Models:** - Make sure that the electrical model is still properly linked to the architectural model. Go to the "Manage" tab, click on "Manage Links" in the "Manage Project" panel. Verify that the electrical model is listed and is set up correctly. 2. **Relink Models:** - If the link is broken, you can try relinking the electrical model. In the "Manage Links" dialog, select the electrical model, and choose "Reload From" to relink it. Navigate to the location of the electrical model and reload it. 3. **Coordinate Systems:** - Ensure that the coordinate systems of both the architectural and electrical models are aligned. Check the positioning and orientation of the models to make sure they are in the correct location relative to each other. 4. **Shared Coordinates:** - If you are using shared coordinates, make sure that both models are sharing the same coordinate system. Go to the "Manage" tab, click on "Shared Coordinates" to verify and adjust if necessary. 5. **Copy/Monitor:** - Revit provides a feature called "Copy/Monitor" which allows you to copy and monitor elements between linked models. Check if any elements need to be copied or monitored from the architectural model to the electrical model or vice versa. 6. **Visibility/Graphics Settings:** - Verify the visibility and graphics settings in both models. It's possible that some elements are set to be invisible in one model or the other. 7. **Worksets:** - If you are using worksets, ensure that both models are in the same workset or that the worksets are correctly managed. 8. **Element Id Conflicts:** - Check for any element ID conflicts between the two models. Sometimes, if elements in one model have the same ID as elements in another, it can cause issues.

sir why update incrementally and not go straight to the latest revit version what will probably happen to the model if it was go straight to the latest model?
@bim360
@bim360 Год назад
hi Royal, program error happens when you do that. like fittings, annotations and other issues. so best practice is do it year by year.

Hello sir, there is no short way if you will be doing this way. This is just my of doing the upgrading, it is up to you if you want to do it straight away from 2016 to 2023 for example.

I’m in 2021 and I want to upgrade my model to 2023 . When I install both 2022 and 2023 and upgrade the model can I delete the 2 older versions? Or I can’t do that?
@bim360
@bim360 Год назад
hi mate, if you already upgraded the model to 2023 and not going to use 2021 and 2022 version anymore, yes you can delete that. it will not affect 2023 file.
