What bothers me some time of Balkan is that he makes most of his video so long, like 14 minutes and when you see the turtoeial is something very easy to do in short time.
In before everyone asks how to do it without losing any functionality. A tricky topic to cover, and the best option we have ultimately! Good video Balkan.
It's good to have workarounds like these out there. At least it gives people options. The "kinda" should take care of any misunderstanding. Thanks for uploading this!
Thank you very much as some Dynamo packages not working in newer version. So there is need to export part of model to older version to be able to use some Dynamo package and bring model back to newer version, so very helpful workaround :)
When exporting to IFC. Always first modify the setup and after browse for a location to save the ifc. Otherwise it will jump back to original location, it's what happend in the video.
I tried your method by exporting IFC from BIM360 to Revit 2020. General/key notes, drafting views, and legends did not get carried over. Is there a solution?
It'd save a lot of time and stress if there's a way to save without exporting and importing through .ifc What if I can't access the newer version anymore..?
I am having this problem now with the Revit 2023 I downloaded 2 days ago and wanted to “test out” but then chose to keep it because I finished a full model on it but I need a solar energy analysis now that in have in 2022 I don’t see it in 2023 yet… I hope this video helps
I just figure it out. So when you open IFC the way you showed here it has no template. But if you create a new project with a custom template and link this project(where IFC imported) then bind the link and you have IFC model with your preferred template.
Later version of revit family is not opening in my 2017 version , So how can I export it . If the file can open in my 2017 version ,so why I need to export it , I can do work with that without export .
i have a project which i have just drawn in revit 2022lt. Now the client has decided they want it in 2021, because everybody else in their design team is running 2021 (no idea why, since they are all big multinational companies and revit is subscription based so you need to keep paying in order to use the software and all upgrades are free?!?! - then here is me - small design firm, running 2023lt and 2022lt??)...so anyway i may need to redraw the whole model again - my question is this - is this method good for downgrading small family models?...i have modelled lots of different items and imported them into my model, so in order to save me re-modelling everything, would this method be the best solution, as the families don't need lots of detail / levels, etc as they are mainly bespoke shelving / display units anyway, built as generic components?...obviously the building and main structure will need to be remodeled from scratch, but i just want to look at saving as much time and work as possible...??..
Stability is why people might want to stick with an older version of something, all the bugs have been worked out all the patches made. And the new releases, not so much.
This is good for project but if i have family in version 2019 and i am using revit 2017 , when i open family ( fold-door version 2019 ) in revit 2020 its open but go to file then export then IFC not available not working , so maybe for family has different way . So Could help me with this problem , Please
Thank you for wasting my 8 minutes... This video was a complete miss information.... You are also aware that this practice is not a right approach to suggest someone, as there will be data loss in term of Building information of BIM ...... I found most of your videos informative and thats why was not expecting this one from you, because on RU-vid you come as one of Top youtube when it comes to Revit.... So teach responsibly
Indeed not a good practice, there will be definetelly some loss of data and it won't be a proper revit file, but it is however A way to do it, tbh Autodesk should have provided the option to save to older version, but i guess with so many parameters etc it was too complicated to do so.
@@Nicholas.Tsagkos I think its not that hard they dont add many features and the software should have backward compability. I think its a marketting technique lol
We do not have the new version guyyyy. If we have the new version why we would open the older one. Someone send file in the new version while I do not have the new version what should I do now.
Cant we change the code on texteditor of revit file then open it on old version? It works on other softwares. If someone who knows the code of file I think they can find the way
Please make video on how this applies to saved families in a project. Scenario would be Families were upgraded to rvt20 project then later on you want to salvage the families and save it to older versions, . I hope u understand the case. Thanks.
