With the 2024 general elections in the offing, Eyewitness News takes a look at the uMmngeni Local Municipality, the first Democratic Alliance-run municipality in KwaZulu-Natal.
But my guy you have the biggest balls ever. Being a politician in KZN is already suicide but to also be white on top of that and be an opposition party to ANC in KZN is just on another level brave.
Daniel writing from Germany: Everybody has the right of private in life. This includes being gay? It is his work, not his color…. I’m very impressed about this man and his work.
Chris is a shining example of how a municipality should be run & of the DA doing the job. If only Chris was managing the entire Province, KZN would go back to its former glory.
@@dothadance1 If you don’t remember it then you’re either too young, are an ANC/EFF corrupt cadre or have a very low benchmark of how a successful, uncorrupt & ethical Province should be run.
Took my family to visit Howick Falls on the Easter weekend, wow! What an improvement to see a clean functional space! We bought some cool stuff from the stall holders and visited the cool little newly revamped museum! Well done Mayor Chris Pappas! 👏
Thank you for your compassionate, insightful and inspiring leadership, Chris Pappas! Your outstanding example of leadership is a shining light and an inspiration throughout South Africa.
This is the only man i don't have issues with in DA,im not a DA supporter and i don't care too much about them but this man i would follow abd vote for him.
@@InJouHandeSo true! The DA has many very young and very capable leaders of all races across all the Provinces! Just look at Peter Teixiera , Mayor of Midvaal and Siviwe Gwarube, DA Chief Whip in Parliament!! Also the very young Mayor of Cape Town, Giordin Hill Lewis ,who is spending a WHOPPING 74 percent of the City of Cape Town’s Budget this year on uplifting and building new infrastructure in previously disadvantaged areas of the City like Kayalitsha, Philippi, Guguletu etc
Very happy you have been able to make change that delivers what the people need. Just wish it could become something in every municipality. Good luck guys.
The upcoming election results will show how people voted per metropolitan. Basically, if the Umngeni area doesn't vote DA as a majority, it's pretty much over my friends. It will mean the Western cape will eventually go ANC / EFF as demographics change. Good governance won't be enough to change the vote. I live in the western cape and the Umngeni vote is the most important in the country
Having watched the inspirational Arte tv Documentary about Mayor Chris Pappas (32) of uMngeni Municipality and his Deputy Mayor Sandile Mnikathi ( 28) on RU-vid, the DA is by far the most progressive, the most compassionate and the most experienced choice to take SA and the Multi Party Charter forward in 2024!!
Mr Chris Pappas, without doubt, deserves this 👏 👌. I am sure each and every South African citizen is so very proud of him, listening to how his Zulu language is so fluent. That is what the S.A. people are hoping or wishing it could happen in the future. If only we could can find a good president who is intelligent enough to transform our country S.A, in so many ways in each and every corner of South Africa. As we all S.A people would like to say Chris Pappas, thank you, because it is definitely just one of the many transformations which are needed in our country, S.A.
I think he should have remained in Howick for a second term, to complete his vision for Howick before he moves to campaign for a premier position. Speed kills!
I think its strategic. Realistically he wont become premier, if the anc are unseated, the premier candidate will probably come from the IFP as they are likely to be the biggest party in the coalotion. The DA are using his popularity to gain votes which is smart in my view. After the elections, he will go back to being mayor.
Pretty sure someone with similar capabilities will be elected in Howick as the standard has been set. As fas as I can see the DA isnt a personality cult
Hello Chris, This is Daniel writing you from Germany. You are doing a very good Job. Hopefully you will win the elections. I can’t give you a vote, because I’m not living in SA. Best wishes for the election
I pray for his protection... We need Honest people like him to stop corruption in government so the youth of our country will see wisdom, honesty and integrity. Mayor Chris Pappas is such a man
Maybe there is hope for South Africa after watching this Mayor operate. In my mind you need to really understand how business works to be in a government role ......REALLY UNDERSTAND!
Look I think DA is very good in governance and administration, the only reason they not getting my vote is that, they are not interested in black economic improvement, i live in CT and the city is amazing, clean, no City in SA comes close, but in contrast the areas where less privileged black and colored people live are in the worst condition ive seen in all of the country. While the DA still governs well for accomplished blacks and coloreds who have left the poorer neighborhoods, the fact remains, those neighborhoods exist and they are in their worst state. So, for me, if the responsibility of running this country was shared, to say okay DA, infrastructure development is yours, but your foreign policy and education policies, affirmative action, must not even be entertained.
Stop giving tenders to same companies. R50m tender split it to 10 companies each taking R5m n monitor their service n dont call them again if they dont fullfil their tast. That will create a lot of jobs n boost a lot of small businesses.
It's not about who lives there, You have seenwhat happens when bins don't get collected for 2 weeks never mind 2 months, some of these areas haven't had a single pickup in Months, not everyone can afford a trailer or bakkie to load refusing into, and for some of these residents the dump is a good 30-40KM away. Think with your brain not your privilege
@@ThinkleTinkto add, u cant wake up and sweep the town ship floors while u have your own job as a teacher nurse etc…its the leadership job to hire cleaning services and pay them!!!!
Many of the residential roads off the main thoroughfares are still dirt. Some homes still have no electricity due to the high cost of the municipality quotes to install it. Why does Pappas not begin assisting people with services where there is the infrastructure.
@@jonot207 He's only been there a couple of years. Don't see the glass as half empty but half full. It's easy to criticize when you're not the one doing the job. Were you criticizing the government in previous years?
@@helpanimals- There has never been a government in the last century in this country that has done a good job for all citizens. When will there be equal treatment for all?
This is good leadership together with supportive community's that have formed a strong chain together and that's how things will get done and done properly!!!!! Well done to everyone in Umgeni
