Take a tour of one of the most unusual signal boxes on the Great Central Railway. It was built in the 1940s just 20 years before the line closed and is a vision of how the London and North Eastern Railway expected the future of signalling to look.
Last used by British Rail in the 1980s as a shunters mess room, it has been secured for preservation for more than two decades. Now though, work has begun to rebuild it, install new equipment and get it ready for a new operational life.
Hotchley Hill is on the northern section of the Great Central Railway and will one day be a place where trains pass on the journey between Leicester and Nottingham.
