The original charger is 15.95V (Minix Brand) and apparently current limited to 50mA. No intelligent battery management system there… So it charges the battery nicely, but blows it to bits when left on for too long. If you have a link or more info on the best way to change the backup battery, please let me know. It keeps forgetting it‘s settings.
I put it in the freezer to make the glue brittle. Then wedged it open with a chisel. That caused some damage to the edges of course, but the plastic did not crack.
Replacement. I had cracked the original Package open 20 years ago and replaced the cells. That worked ok. Because the relatively low cost of the new pack, I did not fix the old pack again.
