Rachel, I'm very pleased my video may have helped in some small way. Apparently your hands are smaller than the old fat man. lol. Did you attempt to put a screw into the piece that broke off? Randomly found this viedo. I have totally different microwave, still problem was similar - one of the door buttons was busted. Service center said it would cost 25 usd to repair + up to 2 weeks of work so i refused. Then i ordered new button for 3 usd picked up in nearby spare parts shop on the same day and replaced in 10 minutes. My microwave works great now! Thanks!

Thanks for this video! It helped me take apart my microwave to see what was broken in the door button. Turns out that for me, it isn't the latch lever itself, but one of the dark plastic tabs that holds the axle in place. The tab that broke is on the same side as the axle that you repaired in your video. I think (hope) that I can just glue it back together, but I don't know what kind of superglue or epoxy to use. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Glad you're feeling better and back in the garage
@MaxsGarajMahal
@MaxsGarajMahal Год назад
There is a two part plastic epoxy glue that is very strong. However, if there is enough room, put the piece in place, drill through it, put a screw in it and if possible, countersink the screw head. You can still put the epoxy on it as you put the screw in and it isn't breaking again. Hopefully that will help. Thanks for watching.
@enthusiator
@enthusiator Год назад
@@MaxsGarajMahal Thanks for the reply. There isn't room to screw anything in, as what is broken is just a thin plastic collar that holds the axle pin in place. But I can epoxy the piece back in place, and I'm going to epoxy something else (no idea what yet, but I'll figure it out) between the repaired collar and a ridge on the other side to further support it. I saw how hard you had to press to get the door latch lever back in place and I'm worried it will break if I don't shore it up with something else. Fingers crossed and thanks so much for your advice!

@@MaxsGarajMahal I don't know where you live, presumably in the southern US just based on the different way you and I pronounce certain words. I live just outside of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, so I bet a new microwave would cost far less than a trip to see you! I was thinking you'd be an excellent neighbour to have though. I imagine you help lots of people around you. I did add some support to the tab that holds the axle. I was searching around the house VERY late last night and came across one of those little clips that are used to hang frameless mirrors. I know - ridiculous. But it was the one thing I found that was close to the right size, though it did wind up to be far too big. I don't have the benefit of a workshop with the right tools, soooooo I wound up shaving it down with a vegetable peeler and then continued to wear it down with an emery board until it was the right fit haha! Necessity really is the mother of invention! I think you would have been cringing and shaking your head though! I reassembled everything and reinstalled it into the kitchen cabinet. So far so good! If the support fails, at least I now know how to open everything up, and I'll try again with something else. Thanks for your support!

@@enthusiator Best of the comments I've had in quite a while. If you watch all of my videos you'll hear me say many times: 'I had what I used and used what I had'. I'm converting a plastic soldering staple gun from 110 volt to a 12 volt power supply that you use for many types of portable applications or for charging cordless tools. My idea was of putting a 12v automotive relay in the mix so that it carries the load rather than the trigger and inline automotive flat blade fuse before the power makes it to the soldering tips. If it works the way I expect it to, I'll make a video showing all the people just as myself that were ripped off by the plastic soldering gun sellers to convert theirs. I really hope that thing outlasts the rest of the microwave and am very happy I may have helped in some small way. My lovely bride told me to tell you we're not that far by the way crow flies. Only about a thousand miles in the dead center of Arkansas. I'm keeping an eye out for you in the event you come this way. lol

Instead of drilling and screwing on the tab, could you have used superglue & baking-soda (maybe charcoal added for reinforcement)? Another video shows a guy doing that. What i'd find most daunting, is removing the electronic panel, because i'm terrified of fooling with electrical wiring. I've a top-quality 700watt countertop Sharp from the 1980s. Its electronic-panel is still smooth after more than 30 years. But by now the push-button very weak. (Also the light doesn't light, but that doesn't bother me.) I take it there's less problems with Pull-Open doors than Push-Button?
@MaxsGarajMahal
@MaxsGarajMahal 2 месяца назад
The super glue and charcoal is snake oil. You're welcome to use that method, however you'll break it more than likely first push on the door button. Remember, you are going to disconnect your electrical cord from the house electrical system. There is now nothing you'll be touching that has any discharge to you or shouldn't be. With that said, the repair is very straight forward. My fix is the cure as you're not going to be able to hit it hard enough to break that screw. Remember, you can't control just how hard others push on the button and many thinks they should try to destroy everything they touch. That person is the one I make repairs for as a challenge to them to go ahead and give it your best shot. Whichever route you take, hopefully it works best for you. Remember though, once you do the charcoal thing getting the pieces to fit precisely again is out the window. Hope you subscribed, liked and hit the notification bell. Best of luck and kind regards, Max

@@minniyoutubaster If it was me? I'd disassemble it, see how the door latch works while diagnosing the problem, design a plan, implement the plan, reassemble it to make sure it functions properly, then forget it if your repair design is solid. Here is a microwave that may be very close to your door design although the overall look may be different, you're more concerned with the mechanical design more than the aesthetical design. That 30+ year old microwave/toaster/oven had the type of latch if I remember correctly. Seems it had a coil spring in the door but then that's been a year or two ago. The owner had a shop tell her it couldn't be repaired, couldn't get parts any longer and it isn't worth repairing. That was because the door latch stopped working because the top of the door broke when he was diagnosing the latch. For some reason, he pried up on the top of the door breaking the plastic retainer. Shoot me a pic of it from a few different angles with good light. Send them via my email, I'll see if there is a way to save it. I'm pretty sure I have the cure for it if it is what I'm thinking it is going to look like.

You are a great teacher, but does this work on a Samsung?
@MaxsGarajMahal
@MaxsGarajMahal 11 месяцев назад
Although I can't see the model number of your Samsung, pretty much all microwaves and electric ovens with a plunger door button are fairly close in design. First thing to do is to get it onto a table or work bench so that you can remove the cover. Only remove screws that attach the cover at this point. Once you have lifted the rear of the cover slightly you should then be able to pull rearward on the cover to lift it off. Be careful as you can cut yourself very deeply on the thin metal. If you don't see the offending parts, take several lighted photos of the front panel from the inside in various angles so I can see what you have if you still need assistance. If after you've opened it up, diagnosed the problem without further assistance, hope it goes well for you. If not, email the photos to maxsgarajmahal@gmail.com or hit me up at MaxsGarajMaha in Facebook to share the photos. Good luck and thank you for watching. I have another video that may be helpful for you on the microwave and it is a combination microwave - convection oven. Here is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NJAZ2V5dF1s.html Good luck, Max

@@conniebentley8967 Well, maybe he just needs a bit of your assistance in order to finesse it apart. If that doesn't work out exactly the way you both like, perhaps he can be the Director and you the Cameraman. Maybe you two can reverse the roles if that works best. At any length, between the two of you I have all the faith in the world that you will be successful in carrying out an easy operation. If you still feel you need some bolstering, send the model and serial number of the Samsung as well as those photos so I can see what I can do to be of assistance from afar. Good luck and have fun as we should always make these games fun. Y'all come back and see me now, ya heah?

Take off the outside cover. Once you can see the inside of the machine looking toward the switch cover, you can then place a thin screwdriver, ice pick, point tool, scribe, etc. to depress the latch to get you into the microwave. Remove the screw(s) to allow the switch cover to be pulled forward so that you can get into the latch. Take very clear pics of all this with really good lighting, send them to me along with model and serial, I'll take a look to see what is necessary to put together a cure for your beloved microwave. email the pics asap so I can take a close look for you. I have a Panasonic with the same problem. What is the part called. Please and thank.

Deborah, Sorry for the late reply as I just saw the email. If you'll supply me with the model number of your microwave, I'll see if I can't find the correct number as well as the name of the part as different brands although the same part are called different things. If you'll provide me with your model number & serial number I will see if I can find you the proper name as well as part number for your particular unit. If you choose to do the repair my way, you shouldn't ever be required to open it back up for that again as the latch isn't breaking that screw. If you'll email me the information along with your phone number if you get stumped, I'll do my best to help you over the phone. Just add @gmail.com to my name and you're set. P.S. I did look up Panasonic although it was generic, they called it a Door Hook. I think their hook is due to having 3 microswitches on it at $53.75 which I can't imagine you need the microswitches until one goes out. Good luck. Max

Cheryl, second time I've heard that however it is in the video. Here is what I replied to the first person: Run it again, stop it at 10:09. Shows the relationship in full zoom. That should help. With the verbal instructions as well as that full zoom, you can't possibly screw up. lol Thanks for watching.

Tell you what. Pop your cover off, email me a couple of clear photos of yours inside, I'll either email you back a circled photo or call you on a zoom or one of those type calls to help you out. Best I can do as I'm going through some difficult health situations and can't take mine back down above my shoulders and put it back to get you new photos of mine. Add @gmail to my name and you can mail me. Again, thanks for watching.

HOOKS STICKING OUT THE DOOR IS A DUMB IDEA! I assume the designer had a warped sense of humor and enjoyed thinking of how many people, removing scalding liquid from the oven, will be splattered when the vessel catches on the hooks.

Thank you kindly. I built it for the Lovely Bride to better be able to utilize her inside and outside playing. She loves it. I built one in the GarajMahal first with a second top that folds up or down. Up it makes a 4 ft. Square work surface. Very very nice.

While I appreciated the video, there are some errors. There is a screw on the top AND bottom of the faceplate. You do not mention the top screw. Also a bit of lube on the right side helps glide the pin in. I do appreciate that it got me in the right direction however, just think a bit more care should be taken on the details. You don't show in the video exactly how how got the latch in.... That's the tricky part too.

I thought the replacement part price was ridiculous when mine broke. I did purchase one or two to have on hand although I don't believe there is any way that sucker will break again with my modification - repair as it is a cure for the ailment not a fix. By the way, I have nothing to do with the manufacturer and they didn't like my video taping this repair.
