Hi Kim, your videos are invaluable for info on this bike! I am looking to tune the EP8 motor in the bike using the EW-EN100 to allow bluetooth connection from the motor to the e-tube app. I will also be looking into connecting a garmin device via the EW-EN100 later down the line. Do you know whether connecting the EW-EN100 through the port shown on the handle bars allows for this functionality? If you have experience with it, what can be accessed via the E-tube app when using this setup? Appreciate it!

I did connect through handle bar port using 150 mm cable that I had, hence sensor on bar grip; get 300 mm cable to run under strapping to central position & use clip provided to hold it on brake line. Sensor does give access to E-tube, but alas, the motor tuning in app was not for EP8 power levels. The only tuning I did was through ride control app where each power level has 3 levels 1 to 3: eco is set to 1, power to 3 & others to 2: I dropped 2nd & 3rd power levels to 1 for better range... E-tube app does give you access to tuning derailleur, through I am yet to need that. Plus changing hood button use. Cheers Kim

Thanks for the reply Kim! So it seems the control of the motor functionality is locked to the ride control app only? My main aim is to derestrict the bike for private road use using STunlocker, for which connection to the motor via e-tube is a requirement, thus my need for this device. It seems strange that giant would lock control of the EP8 motor to their own app but then require purchase of this device, manual install and a separate app to connect to the bikes shifters. Cheers!

Hi how did you find out how to set it up working with your Garmin unit. Where is the best place to find out information on it. Thanks Paul.

I tend to stumble through set ups, because information is not readily available. The garmin finds sensors; first will be bike frame number( last 4 digits), with the EW-EN100 appearing as a separate number. What I do is play in the menu layers, finding features & ways to adjust set ups. Once happy, I rarely go back into it. To be blunt, if I can stumble thru with scant knowledge of it, anyone can... May I suggest you slowly work thru menu, perhaps starting by tapping the new sensor number under sensor list on garmin screen. Cheers Kim

Oops, just had a thought! Get into garmin display fields menu & new features should be available there. Kim

Can you index rear derailleur using that ew-en100?

@procopiobucaio8840 hi, the sensor will allow E-tube app to access bike to adjust settings & do maintenance. I did not need to adjust derailleur, so have no experience on that. Cheers Kim

I have the same bike. So i only need the EW-EN100 and the EW-SD 50 for this setup? Connect it to the free connection on the left lever .Can i communicate with the Shimano E-tube app with this setup ?

The EW-EN100 will give access to E-tube app, plus provide data, such as gear position to a compatible gps/ computer. A 300mm cable can be run under the strapping to central position where the supplied clip secures sensor to brake line. Cheers Kim

Can you turn on the power to the light output (factory turned off) in the e-tube app ? I can connect a light, but there is no power at the connection points for the light wires.

@lucferrari3109 Hi, I have not wired in lights, so have no idea on that set-up. That said, I did assume the connection points were hot! Perhaps a look through hood switch allocation may bring up light as an option. Best of luck, Kim

I have the same bike. I only need the device and a cable, right?

That sensor & a cable( most get a longer one to run under strapping to central point & use supplied clip to secure it on brake line near stem). Sensor will allow communication with both a compatible gps for data, such as gear position,etc & etube app on phone/ device for most of its features, but not the power adjustments as app is set up for MTB 3x power/ 2x profiles, not our 5+ auto. Cheers Kim

Did you use Shimano EW-SD50 E-Tube Di2 Cable
@kimwalker2886
@kimwalker2886 2 года назад
Luckily this old man left cable tag on! Yes, it is EW-SD50, the 150mm, thus sensor on bar, though a 300mm is needed to run under strapping to central position & sensor clipped to brake line. Cheers Kim

Well done! Still no torque sensor info to be found, tho did see RU-vid clip declaring EP8 motor will not give that out. Oh well. Just finished 50 klm urban & found gear info surprisingly useful... cheers Kim

@@kimwalker2886 it works! In the E-TUBE app the battery is still 5 bars and not a % which is disappointing. My motor powered light also only turns on with the junction button, not the shifter hood button I had working previously. But worth it for gear position display
