I got one a little over a year ago. My favorite rifle, if you are in the market for a custom AK this is one of the best. Occam's customer service is second to none.
Hi there, I realise this is a very old comment but... Do you still love the rifle? How does it compare to a VZ-5, if you've shot one? 3.5 grand seems like a LOT of money!
This was a great interview. Love the humility in saying this is how I do it, and why. That doesn’t mean what others do is wrong or worse, just different purpose and reasoning. A+ interview and great breakdown.
Haha, discovered the diopter astigmatism trick a few years ago. Just look at the fancy bullseye pistol shooters. They often have a diopter right on their shooting glasses. This is the only AK(not including Galil ace ) that I would buy.
One day I might have one of these the only reason I haven’t bought one yet is because I prefer a milled receiver. A sharps bros milled receiver 14.5 inch pinned and welded dead air would be my dream occam build.
love my ODS 1775 rifle and pistol, when I ordered Occam was just getting started and the price was much less, but the lead time was much more. Either way these AK's are well worth the $3k being charged now IMO, and I would have paid that much when I purchased them initially
Can we get an Occam defense video that actually features someone (competent) shooting this at a 100yds to get a gauge of it's accuracy? It's nice that it's pretty and you've poured a lot of blood and sweat into free floating an AK barrel, but that feels fairly meaningless without some seeing it in action.
What if a company like Proof Research come up with an AK barell. Whould that be of any benefit managing heat, weight, reliability, and longevity? Just assume cost is not a problem.
Their design would be a lot more interesting if you didn't have to remove your front sight in order to install the handguard. As such, the SAG MK. 2.1 and MK 3 make a little more sense to me, even though they are MUCH more expensive.
I'm planning on doing the same but backwards. Got a pistol length version at the new price point after they raised it. Going to have to wait on it to go back down but I definitely want another.
Here is my M70 from 7 days ago, while I was still waiting for ammo. I accidentally typed yesterday instead of "the other day" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w72pT9Vf10M.html
You would have to redesign the internal components and the magazine. It’s not that simple. At that point you might as well go with a totally different gun like a VZ58 or Bren
@@OreGear I don't claim to be an engineer or gunsmith. I guess it's so much easier to keep copying what has already been done and make minor changes on the periphery. No John Brownings here. Instead, we marvel over sights and barrels. Wow. Big deal. I'll stick with my Galils. You can keep the Occam's. For what they cost, I can get 3 PSA AK's, plus mags and ammo.
Clearly I struck a nerve, but there’s a reason it hasn’t been done. Like I said, it would take a complete redesign at which point you might as well use a different gun. If it wasn’t difficult as you claim, it would have been done.
I’ve heard very mixed reviews on these… For the money there’s no reason why anyone would buy one of these over a Rifle Dynamics, Krebs or Definitive Arms… I’d have to shoot one myself to see if these are on par with those. I think it’s great companies here in America are making the investment and trying to manufacture great AKs
Very cool gun; however, This man is very wrong about 5.56 vs 7.62. 5.56 is flatter and does more soft tissue damage by virtue of yaw and/or fragmentation. .30 is a better penetrator which makes it better for brush warfare. All things considered, I’ll take 5.56/5.45 all day long
When you grow up,you will understand the advantage of 762×39: short barrel energy retention, vehicle and intermediate barrier penetration, terminal performance on 4 legged animals, hollow points, soft points, suppressor compatibility and efficiency. Look for any 8M3 effect ballistic tests from short barreled rifles/ pistols. Now, you can tell all us old guys how much more effective 9mm. is over 40sw. Nope, not even 9mm.+p+. Before I forget: Glock was great 35 years ago, they have been surpassed by more manufacturers than I care to recall right now. If you trust video games and the FBI for your information, you will never make it out of your parents basement.
I'm sure your AK is fine. But my WASR is 2.5 moa going on 15k rounds bought for 700 After upgrades such as Kns piston ALG trigger M I FSC47 It runs like a 556 AND 1000$ flat I wish you well though. But you're taking a Toyota Corolla and over building a great car and making it too expensive to justify it over a stock Corolla imo
@@OreGear on my 3rd one.. And my RH10 is performing the same, yes I'm sure there are lemons out there, and again I'm glad you're building top notch rifles and employing Americans. Take care.
