I assume you mean the overs end of the trommel? That actually is what we call a rubber boot. It is there for two purposes. The first is to move the material further away from the plant. The second, and main reason, is that when the plant is not used in conjunction with a stacker or plant mounted overs conveyor, the overs material is removed by the machine usually feeding the plant, i.e. wheel loader or perhaps a skid steer. The rubber boot is to prevent the loader getting too close to the plant and if it does, then there would not be any damage since the rubber boot is flexible.
