Peter Revson was an American Superstar; a race car driver who won in everything he drove and became a national celebrity. Since 1970, more Americans have walked on the Moon than won a Formula One race. Revson carried American F1 interest on his shoulders as he won races and chased the World Championship. But at the height of his popularity, it all ended.
From a privileged childhood to making it on his own, Revson climbed to the peak of auto racing's mountain by being one of the most talented drivers of his generation.

I was at Silverstone as a young 19 year old in 1973 to see him win. it's strange how the death of someone you have never met can be so devastating, but i was truly shocked by his death. such a talent and i have no doubt he would have gone on to win the world championship. seventies motorsport was cruel. R.I.P. Peter.

I read his book and followed his career. I actually met him at Daytona airport before the IROC race and chatted about his prospects for the 1974 season. However I did not know about his Penske deal for 1975. I was sadden to hear of his death on the radio just a few weeks after our talk. I am 68 now and still drive track days. My helmet is done up in his design as my tribute to his career. I was wondering how I missed this over the years and then realized it was a new release. Well done documentary!

Truly one of my racing heroes was Peter Revson. I got to see him race at the Ontario Motor Speedway, 1970-73 when I was a kid. Sadly I've become an even bigger after his tragic death by reading and viewing film. This video is fantastic and a well done tribute to one of Motor Sports lost legends. Gods Speed Peter Revson. Gone but never forgotten.

My first favorite driver was Jim Clark. My second ever favorite was Peter Revson. I bought his book! After Peter was killed, I didn't bother having favorite drivers for a long, long time. Alonso is my favorite F1 driver now, and I'm grateful it's kinda ok to pick a favorite driver again.

Revson was my 1st favorite sports star. As a kid who was really into race cars he was the 1st one I started to root for. He was also my 1st encounter with death. I remember when the news came on in the afternoon saying he died and I was just devastated. I was really young and didn't really understand it but I was saddened I couldn't root for him anymore. Speed with Style was one of the first books about the sport I ever read. When I found one in a used book store many years later, I grabbed it and it sits proudly on my bookshelf. The general public thought of Revson as a wealthy playboy but in reality he worked for everything he got. It was talent that got him drives. He's underappreciated now, and I hope this documentary shines some light on one of the best American drivers, ever

Jim Clark was my favorite driver when I was a kid, my dad sat me down and tried to explain how he died. I remember when Revson was killed, I was a senior in high school. We lost so many drivers back then, and all the way into the 90s. I stopped watching after Senna was killed, and started being an active fan again in 2006. Racing had such a mystique in the 1960s and 70s, far less today. Thanks for the great video and the memories.

Peter Revson was brilliant, the wonderful comment by Mark Donohue about his dedication to his craft says so much. His GP wins in 1973 were magnificent, especially in Britain where he destroyed the rest of the field. It's very interesting that he was replaced at Shadow by a Welshman (I'm Welsh), Tom Pryce, a brilliant talent who was also killed in South Africa in a tragic and absurd way in 1977. Most importantly of all, this documentary clearly shows what a nice person he was - a true gentleman.

Thank you for an incredibly well done documentary about Peter Revson. I have followed Formula1 since the '60's and was always miffed at the way the American media portrayed Revson. He wasn't some playboy dillitante who "dabbled" in automobile racing. He was a truly talented driver who could win in anything, like Dan Gurney, Andretti, and Foyt to name some illustrious company. Finally, he was not the heir to the Revlon fortune. His uncle controlled that as Peter's father had detached himself from the company before Peter even started racing. He made his living behind the wheel and, sadly like so many drivers from that era, was gone too soon.

Wow ! A good documentary of a talented driver who I saw in action four times at Indy's "500": 1969 through '72. Yet...the years - 1974 & '75 having the loss of Revson, Donahue and retired F1 champ and winner of the 1966 Indianapolis 500, Graham Hill (in a plane accident) took some of the "drive" out of me in my love of auto racing. One thing for sure in Peter Revson's accomplishments: He should have been the "Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year" in 1969. I was at that race and noted his positions in that Revco V8 engine. It was sounding like the old NOVI engines of past in that race.

Thoroughly enjoyed those 71 minutes. I love learning about racing history and its characters. Flowed excellent, never felt overhanded on details and was a fantastic insight into a driver I was aware of but now can appreciate far more. You don't win in Can-Am without being a top driver. Coming up to 50 years since his parsing. McLaren F1 will undoubtedly have a tribute car at the FORMULA 1 ROLEX AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2024 to be held at Albert Park Melbourne which I will be attending. I had the pleasure of meeting him for a brief moment at the 1973 GP of Barcelona at Montjuich circuit. I was nobody but a 16 years old nerd aficionado and he took the time to answer my unsolicited questions and talk to me (drivers were much more accessible then) Such a gentle spirit.

Great job. I have a lot of respect for Peter Revson. The guy was heir to one of the most well-known companies in the world, some in that position would have done nothing with ambition knowing they were set. Peter Revson though, chased a dream and was a damn good driver 1 of only 3 American born drivers to win a Formula One race (if you exclude all of the Indy 500 winners from the 50s).

In 1964 Phill Hill and Pedro Rodríguez were racing. In 1971 Emerson Fittipaldi and Pedro were racing. In 1972, 1973 and 1974 Carlos Reutemann, Emerson and Carlos Pace were racing. How can you (or anyone else) consider Revson as "América Superstar" when Reutemann, Rodríguez, Pace and Fittipaldi are Racing on the same track?

Back in 1966 when I was 13 I was looking forward to our annual trek to Sebring when some friends of ours said to watch for a young driver named Peter Revson. I think his family and theirs were friends. I had never heard of him. He and Skip Scott won the Sports category in their Essex Wire Ford GT40 and placed 3rd overall. I'm surprised that wasn't mentioned. Thanks for the very enjoyable tribute to a great American driver.

Thank you for doing this video nascarman History and Brock Beard for the narration. I had only known a bit about Peter Revson via the old Nintendo Wii game, Indianapolis 500 Legends, and that he was one of the many drivers who died in the 60s and 70s in racing. I didn't realize his prestigious upbringing but his humbleness all the same, and the absolute skill he had as a driver. Looking forward for more historical documentaries and new things to find out about racing's past.

I was at the Laguna Seca Can-Am in 1971 when Peter won his fifth race. Then two weeks later I was at Riverside to see him clinch the Can-Am title. Great driver. A very talented driver. So many died before their time.

Speed With Style has been on my bookshelf for over 40 years and is STILL one of the best motor racing biographies, or auto-biographies ever written. After more than 28 years of involvement in motorsports, Peter's loss is, to me, second only to Mark's -- barely a year later. Motor sports is a dangerous pastime, but those who participate do it by choice and with full knowledge of the risks involved! Peter, you are missed.

Excellent documentary about a very talented and nice person. We competed at an IMSA race at Lime Rock in 1973, where Peter finished 4th in GTO and I was 5th. We spoke a few times that weekend and Peter came across as just another hardworking driver, definitely not a rich playboy.

I had the pleasure of chatting with Peter in the paddock at Mosport on a practice day before the 1971 Can-Am race. He was very gracious to give some time to a young kid. I also got an autograph, which I still have. As fate would have it, the very next year at the same place I had a similar conversation with Mark Donohue.

Can't believe someone had enough knowledge about this man and finally shared it. My mother was a huge fan of him while my father was a nascar fan. I have always been interested in Revson since my mother told me about him. I even remember the day my mother told me about his fatal crash. I was 8 years old and never forgot. I had the news article for years

I remember Peter because I followed most of the series that he raced in. I watched him climb the ladder and get better and better. I fully expected him to get to the top and stay there for some time. His death was a shock.

You can't tell me old-school history channel, discovery, or even really old-school Biography channel could even come close to matching this quality, with the single exception that they'd have provided live interviews of family and friends, which would have been waste of time compared to this. Thank you for this video. I remember my 4th grade teacher pulled me aside in the hall way to ask if I knew who Peter was, he said he had passed away. My mom was the race fan in the family and with Mark D. coming out of retirement to drive the Penske F1 She pulled my brother and I out of school for a International sporting event, The USGP at the Glenn. I wish I could have seen Peter drive in person.

It was reading about that very messy Canadian Grand Prix of 1973 that I first heard of Peter Revson. The impression I get is that the Safety Car (a Posche 914) wasn't used in an official capacity, and after the chaos in the timing and scoring that day, it's understandable why F1 was initially reluctant to used them in an official capacity. It wasn't until 1993 that F1 would use one in an official capacity

Great documentary, I’d put Peter on the short list of drivers who should’ve won the Indy 500. If he’d been with Donahue on the Penske team in the early 70’s he definitely would’ve won. Peter was very much like Mario Andretti and AJ Foyt in that you could put him into any kind of race car and he’d find a way to win with it.

The two most "handsome and glamourous" drivers in F1 from the early 1970s, Peter Revson and François Cévert, died very violently and gruesomely within months of each other. I remember the shock, as a young teenager enthusiast of the sport, when hearing about, and seeing horrible images of both crash scenes. Revson and Cévert were more than handsome and very fast; they were great guys.

Unlike Lance Stroll, Peter Revson's dad didn't buy him a racing team! Peter was a very good driver who made it on his own merits. There's an article by, I believe Pete Lyons, who describes what it was like riding in a McLaren Can-Am car with Peter - great stuff!

@@LB1973 As much as I almost hate to admit it, Lance Stroll does have talent. Without his father's money, I don't think he would ever have gotten to F1 but he has shown he belongs. Revson, on the other hand, never bought a ride or ever had one bought for him.

I don't think it was mentioned that he was quite closely associated in the mid 1960's with the notorious ( party ) flat in Harrow, England frequented by various motor racing personalities including Frank Williams, Piers Courage, Chris Amon, Mike Hailwood, Charlie Lucas and Innes Ireland 😁

Thank you for doing this, I've learned some things about Peter that I never knew before. I was always fascinated by him ever since I watched the F1 documentary (Champions Forever), and even though he died many years before my time, I've felt he should have been more famous than what he was. By the way Peter's father Martin died only a few years ago at an incredible age of 105.
