When I watch this on my computer as the video file itself, the audio's perfect, but for some reason, it's so crunchy here. I've spent so long working on this and dealing with technical issues, so it's gutting for me that the audio only sounds like this when I finally post. It's extremely disappointing for me as well. I'm gutted. Oh well, there's always next video.
THIS IS AMAZING !!! I love this take on the concept of Zelda as the MC and it explores her character arc of figuring out her identity of Zelda vs Hylia a lot more with a satisfying ending so much better than the actual source game. We need more Wind Waker-esque endings where Link and Zelda take on the final boss together istg it's so good

I just had an epiphany! When Zelda uses her harp as a bow, it's forshadowing it turning in to the Goddess Bow. I mean she was Godess Hylia at some point she's just reincarnated. Edit- I'd be interested if you re-wrote Twilight Princess, it a pretty good game but ide be interested in seeing how you re-write it.

The whole confrontation/fight with Demise in act three was really cool. Like I went "Awww" out loud at Zelda's little speech, and then Link showed up and I was like "yes!" Good storytelling here on the whole; I would read that fanfic and I've really enjoyed this video.
You somehow made Zelda a compelling main character with an AMAZING story arc about accepting who she is, which is a very satisfying conclusion for me, and you did Link MORE than justice. Him giving the finger to fate and shoving himself into the hero's shoes is so, so cool. And Zelda tossing away Hylia's goddess persona in exchange for the true her is a conclusion I loved. Not to mention, your art is incredible. GREAT. JOB.

This was wonderfully written!! As a Legend of Zelda fan, I think Skyward Sword should have followed Zelda like you said, only because this is the first story in canon (and not because a female-lead story would be nice pffftt nooo). You also have really nice art !!!
Bro... that was incredible. I'm a huge fan of the Zelda games, Skyward Sword especially, so it was a lot of fun to see how you rewrote it! I love the dynamic between Link and Zelda/Hylia you came up with, and I love how everybody looks in your art style, especially Fi, I love how you tied her design in more with the design of the Goddess Sword!

I've been on a Zelda high, and recently I found out that they were originally gonna have gameplay for Zeldas journey in Skyward Sword. I know you already feel robbed and I'm sorry if this makes you feel even more robbed, but it needs to be known
despite the problems ive had with the original story, I adore skyward sword and its very precious to me. It made me reminisce all over again and even pulled on my heart strings a bit (I know very goofy aha.) watching this retelling. you've done something truly great re-making this story. from one Zelda fan to another, I commend your great work
Zelda's speech against Demise got me emotional, ngl. Never played Skyward Sword, (couldn't handle it well due to the controls on the Wii, since when I tried to play it I was a kid.) Your reimagining makes me not only want to play the original, but yet again reaffirms my longing for an animated project written by you, and/or a webcomic by you. I've not finished the video yet, so sorry if you have one and I'm just being a dumb. :p But yeah. Love your art style, as always, and love the writing in this.

I love this story so much. skyword sword is already one of my favourite zelda games in general. your story of it adds so much i would have loved to see in the actual game. especially with link and zelda seeing each other more and spending time together below the sky during the stories time. and gods i love your designs, especially for fi, the way she doesnt look like the full master sword we know from the other games at the start but actually more like the sword as it currently looks is fantastic!!!
This is so insanely cool! Your art style works so well for the characters, your writing style makes them feel like people rather than cookie cutter Nintendo characters, and the way you told this story was so emotional. It genuinely made me feel something special and I would absolutely play this version over the original (though I still love the original because of nostalgia).

i am late to the party, but the game's name came before any of the games even started development! one of miyamotos buddies suggested the name zelda for the princess. and since miyamoto wanted the tile of the game to be legend of something, he decided to make legend of zelda. and the rest just came in the meantime

I really love your take on SS! While I did like the original too, this makes for a much better story and I enjoyed the characterisations and conflict between characters. If there were ever a Zelda film, I'd want it to have this story now.
AHHHH OMG There is so much to love about this!!! I actually only just finished playing Skyward Sword for the first time & while I did have a lot of fun, it could have done even more. But your version hits so many marks for me!!!!!! I mean 1, actual "playable" protagonist zelda??? YES PLEASE we've only been asking forever lol (and you're absolutely right that this would have been the game to do it!!). 2, I HAVE to take a moment to gush about LINK IN A GREEN CAPE??!!????!!? it is SO COOL and looks ABSOLUTELY STUNNING (all of your character designs do!!) and i love it so much more than the traditional green tunic + pointy hat duo, at least for this game, gives him such a unique flavor as the first hero :) More than anything tho I wanted to compliment your story beats and the way you paced the game, it feels a lot more organic & intriguing showing both zelda & link's journeys. And the changes you've made to the story made it so much more impactful!! I have my own head canons & personal "canon-tweaks" for SS, but nothing as grand as what you've done here. I feel like you've tapped into the true heart of the story, and created something that both honors & builds-upon the devs intended message for this game. Absolutely stellar work all around!! Oh yeah, also wanted to say: Adore how Link "made himself important" as you say!! I had a similar HC that Link wasn't actually chosen by Hylia, but that bc of her foresight she could see that **Zelda** would choose Link-not to be a hero, but as her closest friend. Sure, Hylia then used that knowledge for her own purposes, but this way the bond between Link & Zelda was always their own, and it's existence is what Hylia counted on to save the world, not created.
Again, I do like the story, and I think it functions more for a novel, rather than a videogame. We must think of these stories within gameplay perspective. So many moments would interrupt the flow of the game, knowing very well that Nintendo will always focus on Link as the only playable character.
@@Dock284 Knowing how Nintendo is, mainly after the backlash Skyward Sword received, there is likely any chance that a story driven Zelda game will happen anytime soon. I want it, but the chances are low now.
originally they planned for zelda's journey to be a new-game+ thing iirc!! but they scrapped it for what i assume was time constraints, which is very sad

i got skyward sword for christmas and i love the game but this is really good and i kinda hope they make a game like this because the whole thing with LoZ is that it's the same story told in different variations, so it'd be really cool to see a variation told from Zelda's perspective
The Legend is of Zelda and not Link because the plot is always revolving around Zelda's role as a spiritual maiden who connects the will of the goddesses with events on Hyrule, she, as the lesser incarnated Hylia, is the stewardess of their plans. The game is not about saving the princess. It's about supporting Zelda accomplish it. It already centers around Zelda. She moves the plot, Link just executes it. And again, she displays divine wisdom by moving the chess pieces together against dangers, she's a religious representative, a ruler, and uses strategy, she's not a warrior, though.
I'm not that far into the vid but I headcanon Link as (selectively?) mute and uses a kind of sign language so it'd be cool if a language barrier was established between him and the people on the surface!
Hi just watched through the Video. The plot looks great! one problem though. How can this be translated into the game? Keep in mind the story HAS to be shown with the game in mind and your story needs to account for that where it doesn't seem to. Cause this is a game first and foremost, and the story is meant to be secondary. In this storyline the story seems to be at the main focus and not the gameplay. Otherwise this just becomes 'Life Is Strange' or whatever the hell David Cage is cooking up in his Crack den. Not to say that that's a bad thing, but I'm saying that Zelda is not a visual novel game and the gameplay has to reflect the story and if the story overshadows the gameplay most Zelda fans will not be playing it. Let me run through it bit by bit and tell you about my nitpicks and tell you what I mean: Like the first part has a problem right off the bat where people usually don't care for overly long cutscenes which seems like the story you want to tell would require. The only way I see the beginning even remotely begin to work is there has to be slight gameplay sprinkled in between like when Zelda has to pick up link with her Loftwing and teaches him how to Loftwing. Things like that but even then people might feel the opening is too cutscene-y and dragged out Also the second part about Zelda on the surface. How is this going to be shown in the game? Through a memory system like BOTW and TOTK or is she a separate playable character entirely? If it's the latter how is she going to function? Especially due to the fact that switching between Link and Zelda is going to feel jarring to the Player. At the part on Eldon we arrive at the same problem. How is this part of Zelda reaching before Link going to be shown. I have no idea how this can be done in terms of the game especially if Zelda is a playable character when Impa has to save her. If you can find a way to do it please do tell. I can keep going but I think you get the point. If this is implemented to the game it might be too cutscene-y, detracts from the gameplay and jarring. Otherwise, this might result in dragging the game down when this rewrite is trying to make the game better. Hope this can be taken into consideration when rewriting a video game. Edit: As I watch through the Video it increasingly becomes aware to me that the story you want to tell kind of has to have at least some kind of memory system for it to have any kind of functionality. The way I see it happening is when its supposed to be Zelda's area Link can collect macguffins in out of the way locations to show what Zelda has been doing through cutscenes and the player doesn't have to get all of them in the game but when getting the true ending you need to collect them all. These macguffins will be placed in areas that are difficult to find or reach that test the players knowledge similar to a shrine in BOTW or TOTK. e.g. across a lake of purple goo there one of the cutscene macguffins and you will need the hook shot to pass through or guarding it has a few bokoblins in the way that just happen to be there but wasn't when Zelda is there like in Eldon, stuff like that. Edit 2: OKAAYYY.... the second half of the plot is nigh impossible to be translated into gameplay. SO in order for this plot work what you want the devs to do is to create a memory system for the first half of the game and create an entirely new playable character as well. Remember you are writing the plot of a game, not a movie. The only way for the devs to even have a remote chance of creating this colossus is to change the areas where Zelda fights Demise in such a way only Link gets to be seen fighting him.
I LOVE this!! Skywars Sword is my 2nd favorite 3d Zelda, right after Twilight Princess and /this/ is what we need in a movie adaptation!! SS Zelda is the perfect candidate and it sets the origin story to continue into a movie series if they want to milk it like Marvel does to their ip's. Nintendo take notes!!!
