And I just laugh when I hear MJ didn't play against other good SG's in his era. Now granted, a lot will say Rex was a pg because of his size, but NO. Rex was a pure gunner man.
I miss Rex he was like a Westbrook in terms of his intensity and passion, but could shoot the lights out, spot up or off the dribble just as good or better than anyone in the West at that time
Don't care what people say, about the rematch later, Rex Chapman Dropped 39 Points (9 3PTS) On Jordan & The 72-10 Bulls . That forever will be a highlight. MJ is the Goat.
One of my all time favorite players. I was only 6’ 1” at the time and I could jump like him. I used a lot of his dunks. On the bucket list to have him autograph one of my pictures dunking.
Rex was 9/10 from 3 that game when he scored 39 vs. the Bulls and the Heat won. In the rematch that Rex mentions MJ scored 40 points and Rex shot 7/16 and finished with 16 points and the Bulls won.
I had a fit every single time the Bulls lost a game in '96. An all out fit. I can only imagine how mad I would've been to see us lose to the friggin' 1996 Miami Heat. For Pete's Sake!
That team, if they wanted it, could have gone undefeated. But you don't start a season in the NBA ever believing that's possible. As the season went, I think they wished they'd played to win those games.
"Actually, I forgot about it" I don't believe that for a second. You don't forget about an encounter with MJ. Why does he keep palming the ball down to the floor and back up?
That was a big deal back then when the lowly Miami Heat beat the Bulls since the Bulls looked unbeatable on their way to 72 wins. They never lost back to back and beating them was news, especially when it was against lottery teams. I remember they had lost against Toronto also of all teams when Stoudamire went nuts.
Pretty cool thing to put on your resume: Yeah, when Jordan's Bulls were at their best, winning 72 games and a championship, I scored 39 points, on Jordan, in Chicago, and beat his ass. That's what I do.....
he had crazy problems with vicodin and oxicodon, went to rehab after that and he says that the episode saved his life because he was falling down..."is infamous", he is now telling his story about substances....you bitch!
I did watch him. I'm 37 years old so I grow up watching the bulls. I just don't think he is the best ever. He just came alone at the perfect time with the tv coverage so more people was programed by the media to believe he was the GOAT
That's projecting into the future, assuming no injuries, 3 more rings etc., and that's OK....he is definitely one of the best.......but right now.....through today......who is the GOAT? Bill Russell? Kareem? Cousy? Chamberlain?
Chapman was so popular at UK, that a commentator had the camera man turn to a fan holding up a sign that said; "REXINGTON KENTUCKY!" He was the shit!!!!
As a Hispanic American who was a huge Larry bird fan I know I was wanting him to be the great white hope and the next big timer like bird. But he did a heck of a job for who he was
Crazy how many ppl have no idea who Rex Chapman is.... he had some really nice years in Charlotte. Especially when they got Larry Johnson... if they would've kept Rex for another season with the addition of drafting Alonzo Mourning then that team would've had a really bright future. Muggsy at the point, Rex SG, Kendall at the SF, Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning.... that would've been a solid starting 5 with JR Reid and Del Curry off the bench.
Rex was good back in the day. I remember him hitting that buzzer beater against my Sonics which was one of the most amazing shots to happen in a playoffs.
He turned not a solid NBA player who could shoot. The Bulls were stacked, maybe the best team ever. Rex was a fun player to watch, and he was a creative dunker. Did you see how he palmed that ball so easily - big hands and 6' 4". Crazy vertical - must have jumped rope and over the creeks as a kid. 🏀
I remember a friend in the marines back in 87 who was from Chapman's hometown always called me Rex when i would dunk on a black guy cause i was only 6'1 and white. I couldn't do anything stylish but i could get up a little bit. Lol
Rex was a BEAST, when he got hot he simply didnt miss. I loved watching him play against MJ, they would both one up each other and made the game that much better to watch.
