I really like videos on the more under reported planes. Everyone knows the Spitfire/ME-109/Zero etc. but there are a lot of really interesting designs. I’m actually a naval historian nerd, and was amazed at the Swedish navy in the steam and steel era. I’d love to learn more about the more obscure attempts at aviation solutions. FYI, I often listen while walking my hound dog. Thanks man.

The idea of collecting oral histories is great. Just the other day Drach had a fascinating discussion on the state of academic history studies and primary research and their contraction under shit budgets and the role of social media facing historians like yourself. The fact that you plan to do what is essentially primary research in the field and contribute to the field by donating to archives is great.

'Down to Brisbane'. Wow, you're really up there. Think you've got a lot of interesting resources and stories right on your doorstep btw, No.3 Sq AFC and the RE8 being a personal fave. ANZAC aviation has a great history and there seems a ton of static and flying examples both sides of the Tasman. Loved the French interwar bomber series. How those monstrosities even saw daylight suddenly made sense! All the best realising the plans.

I am hoping that either you or some of your followers can help me with something I read in an almost period History of The Great War. The book(s) of which there are several volumes started print in 1916. There is a brief mention of the French putting a 75mm gun, yes, 75mm, into some of their aircraft. It seems they used a one time wooden breach block to counter the problem of recoil. There was no other information, other than it seemed to work. Never having heard of this, I wonder if anyone else has any more information.

Rex, I have been thinking about perhaps covering airplanes like the DC-5 only 12 built), the Curtiss Condor, de Havilland DH.91 Albatross (7 built) and some other obscure passenger aircraft. Maybe something like the Vickers Viscount (I owned three of them back in the 1970's) or perhaps the Brabazon or Sanders Roe Princess. Then you mentioned this idea already, but stories on people like Bill Boeing, Donald Douglas, Leroy Grumman, R.J. Mitchell, Frank Whittle, Glenn Curtiss and I could go on. Another topic could be aircraft designers, like Ralph Harmon, Ed Heinemann, Ted Smith, Edgar Schmued, Kelly Johnson, Geoffrey de Havilland, Jack Northrop and the Wright Brothers. I have been watching only for a year or so as many of these have been done. That ought to keep you busy for a bit. No time for anymore haircuts.

Quality is more a factor of practice. So far, you are very effective, so your practice is well employed. I like your plans as presented. Cheers from the East Coast of the United States. Massachusetts. My dad used to have his 8th grade classes do oral History projects. You are right about learning more from them. He had one kid who's grandfather was part of the crew of the carrier U.S.S Franklyn during the kamikaze attack. Prior to this interview all he ever said to his family was that he was in the Pacific. P.S. the kids had to tape record the interviews. One student found out they had a brother who lives in China. They had left after he was a grown up and he stayed behind. When you hit the U.S. East Coast, you should set up an interview with the restoration department at Smithsonian Air and Space at Udvar-Hazy. They have so many unique planes that they have restored, even a Horton 229.

Hey Rex you should do a trip to New Zealand at some stage. Peter Jackson the film maker has got the most amazing collection of WWI restorations and replicas in the world. The replicas are built using all the old techniques so you cant tell that many are replicas. There are also major WWII restorations done in NZ. I think our warbirds airshows are the only place in the world where you can see Camels and SE5s doing mock dogfights against several Fokker Triplanes.

First sources (people who saw it happen) are better than secondary sources (people who talked to the first sources) and way better than tertiary sources (people who read what the secondary sources wrote). The one thing you have to remember about first sources - they can only tell you about what they saw and did - which can leave a lot of questions. The canonical case of this is the first source at the Battle of Agincourt who was with the baggage train - he saw things at a distance but really was almost a secondary source.

Do you have the FHCAM "Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum" in Everett Washington on your USA agenda? It is located at Paine Field near the Boeing Plant about 30 minutes north of Seattle. FHCAM has an amazing collection of WWII Aircraft, many of which are flown several times during the summer airshow season. Including a Zero, IL2, FW190, BF109, and Mosquito. There is at least one other channel on RU-vid that features videos of these aircraft at their fly days. Of course, Seattle has the huge "The Museum of Flight" at Boeing Field. An hour north of Everett, at the Skagit Airport near Burlington WA, is the "Heritage Flight Museum" which flies its' aircraft at least once a month in the summer season. They have an interesting connection to the Apollo 8 astronaut who snapped the "Earthrise" photo. The orientation of the runway here has better light for photography than at Paine Field. Thanks for the videos.

I never considered that you have the same issue that we have here in the U.S., that of housing prices varying greatly depending on location. I live in Southern California, but because I live in the low desert (I can empathize with your heat issues) in a primarily agricultural region, so our median income is much lower than the urban areas. Because of that, our housing is much cheaper than L.A., San Diego, or other, "nicer" areas of the state.

I'm a relatively recent subscriber, and have to tell you, your work is a HUGE inspiration for my own channel. By the way, I tell folks that I'm an "aviation historian", less of a bad rap than avgeek youtuber, lol. Never had to try to finance a home from it thankfully, and thus far I'm just on my baby steps on this journey, quite a ways from earning a living from it. But busting my butt trying, that's for sure! I also share similar challenges as far as covering topics I would LOVE to talk about but have very little media to work with. So it’s a been a struggle to figure out my own direction. I have tons of ideas for videos but damn they take soooo long to produce, it’s exhausting and a bit nervewracking considering it conflicts with my other work that pays my bills. Anyhow, Rex, congrats on getting this far, and if Florida is on your radar one day, would love to meet (though admittedly aviation is a bit thin round these parts. Maybe Kermit Weeks will let you in his aviation fantasyland, lol)

Banks: They would not recognize a useful income if it bit them in the nose and farted. As a Swiss, I can assure you that competence in a Bank is not a thing. I have a giant loft with my wife, basically a truck driver (she owns the company with all 230 employees) and I am a profiteer of the bitcoin boom with a bank account that can get one dizzy. My 'work' counts nothing, hers does (truck driver). Incidentally I ended up buying the place outright. No mortgage at all. The Banks don't really know what a computer is. 'IT' is not recognized at all.
