Your OG Arghoslent video is what introduced me to RFI and The HateBus haha, listen every week. I've been into GBK/Arghoslent for about 10 years (so since I was 14, RIP LOSER YOU WERENT BORN IN THE 80S) and their fanbase has absolutely exploded since about 2018 imo. Tons of new pages, previously unreleased videos of live sets/rehearsals, and just a huge rebirth of people tabbing and covering their songs online. Not sure why that is, but I'm not complaining. The new albums are good but definitely do not represent the peak of either of the bands' discography for me.

I personally think all of the online discourse about whether or not its immoral to listen to bands with racist beliefs like GBK and Arghoslent only serves to further their popularity. People are drawn to things that they're told they shouldn't listen to / read / or watch. If these terminally online weirdos would've just left it alone I think these bands would still be obscure and unknown.

It’s cool man but to me GBK “Kohanic Charmers” Is better than “Resuscitation of the Revanchists”. It’s not just the production on the album but Ulfhedinn’s vocal sound low. Like he’s whispering . The 2009 split was so much better.

I also thought new Arghoslent was pretty solid. I agree with people saying that the production isn't as good as Incorrigible or Hornets, but it's not a dealbreaker since I listen to tons of stuff with worse production. Lots of high points on the album for me, like the second half of Terra Nullius and the second half of Hyenas of the Arunci. Frangrance of the Octaroon and Hemic Shabbat are great. So yeah it doesn't live up to their best albums but I like it.

My favourite song on the new GBK is one I've never seen anybody single out, The Door is Marked with Sheep's Blood. That bit at the end where Unhold screeches the title, the drums do a thundering fill and then the main riff comes back but completely as harmonics is basically the black metal equivalent of the vocals and guitars doing Halford-esque high notes and I love it. Plus the bass drum doing a steady kick pattern underneath. Also the new Argho is good and a good part of the seeming negativity towards it is because a good chunk of the metal community were ready to hate it due to *certain reasons*, and then it teed itself up for them with that production job.
@radiofreeinnsmouth1337
@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 7 месяцев назад
I almost used that song on this episode actually, but it was getting kind of long. That one's definitely a banger though, I really like the way the drums and guitars lock in the groove on it, probably my fourth favorite song after Crud, Serpent Bibliomancy, and Turbans.

@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 7 месяцев назад
Oh yeah, Hearse is fantastic! I've known the name for years but I could never find their demos, so the full-length was an opportunity to finally hear their stuff. It sounds more like an extension of the doomier bits on Crucifier's stuff than anything else, certainly helps that Cazz's vocals remind me a lot of the first couple Paradise Lost albums. Initially I actually liked it more than either the new GBK or the new Arghoslent, but the new Arghoslent really grew on me to where it's about tied with Hearse if not a little ahead.
@medieval_flail
@medieval_flail 7 месяцев назад
The complaint is about the drum sound not the playing, though it seems kinda sloppy sometimes but it's hard to tell if it's the timing or production, the rest of the album just lacks most of the epic notable moments the other albums had, and it sounds tired. Hornets and Arsenal are the GOAT

Great video as always man. I gotta say when the new gbk and argho came out it was easy to see who actually understood the music and who didn't. It took me a couple listens of that new gbk album to start really getting into it, however with the new argho album, as soon as that riff from terra nullius kicked in I grabbed my guitar and learned it. They are very good at utilizing octave chords without sounding pretentious either if that makes sense. Probably because they don't play the full chord, but fragments of it and then piece it together, yet not in a swedish melodeath kind of way. Whatever it's good shit is what I'm saying. Also is it just me, or did the record have a different recording of the album than the youtube video? P.S. I think a video on Endless Dismal Moan would be cool, I'm missing the visual kei stuff.
@radiofreeinnsmouth1337

Especially the new Arghoslent since the spergs on Metal Fartchives seemed to have nothing good to say about it, which I also didn't understand. I also happened to notice that you included a song from the newest Crucifier EP for the intro track, which ruled by the way. Are you at all excited for their new album coming out this spring? Very good analysis on the new Arghoslent and GBK albums. I'll have to give Kohanic Charmers a relisten as I was unsure about the quality of the music when I first listened to it but did recall moments when the album kicked ass and hearing parts of the album again has confirmed how kick ass it sounds. I haven't listened to the new Arghoslent but will definitely get to it after this. Also massive bonus points for the Star Wars KOTOR reference. I had no idea that was why Darth Revan was called Revan. Star Wars KOTOR is my favorite RPG and Star Wars Game/Media. Glad to run into a guy who understands the genius of both Underground Metal and Star Wars KOTOR.

Unfortunately the greatness of KOTOR ended after KOTOR 2 The Sith Lords. I can't stand The Old Republic or the accompanying novels Drew wrote for that game. I can't stand MMORPG's in general. It's unfortunate considering how interesting, dark, and different KOTOR 2 was in terms of story and atmosphere and instead of getting a proper follow-up to KOTOR 2 we get a WOW rip off set in the KOTOR universe.

For sure, but I think it was a step down in quality compared to their other albums. Where as Kohanic Charmers for me fit right in with the GBK discography and actually reminded me of some of the stuff off of Mocking and Judeobeast where I was originally expecting it to some more like Kosherat. Totally agree on the "atmospheric" sections on Kohanic being ass though, you didn't mention it but that instrumental track before Turbans Nailed to Their Head is pretty lame the album would've been better without an instrumental at all. The riffs do not kick ass like Hornets of the Pogrom or Incorigible Bigotry. My vinyl came with nothing included even lyrics, because Gelal is going soft now trying to wash his past. I didn't get the grudge against the new Arghoslent album neither. I confess I still think, in comparison to their other albums, the sound is a little muddy. But overall I think it is what it was supposed to be, a good Arghoslent album. My theory: there are two kinds of haters, first those who would love to like them, but those have a problem with the bands philosophical views on the biological and cultural textures of the human species, so to say. Instead they listen to House of Atreus, but it's not same, so they become frustrated. And then you have those Metal-Archives dumbos who get triggered by calling the band "Death Metal", because variety within a subgenre is an intellectual challenge to them.

Also, about the production complaint on _Resuscitation Of The Revanchists,_ I might add that it's probably because a band like House Of Atreus kinda plays similar heavy/melodic death metal with a more " modern " and sharper production, so I guess people probably expected Arghoslent to emulate that on their latest effort... Personally, the production of this new album doesn't bother me at all, as this type of sound is also part of Arghoslent musical identity.

My CD says Ulfhedinn, which is kinda wacky because he's the vocalist on the new Arghoslent and not the drummer. I do like whoever it is' style a lot, really groove-oriented, especially on The Door Is Marked with Sheep's Blood.

I've even heard it was Thomas Tannenberger on drums. Also the lineup on the new Arghoslent is not the same as their last album. I know Gelal and the boys say it is the same as the 2009 lineup but I know on authority that it is not.

What’s comical about the hate on the new Arghoslent album is they are an easy band to hate from this generation’s wimpy fans. I always see, “love their riffs and hate their ideology”blah blah. I heavily enjoyed both albums, great description as expected. The Arghoslent album sounds like Arghoslent. Their 3 classic Rotting Christ albums meets US power metal tendencies were still there in full, nothing out of the ordinary. The memorable parts stood out, the production didn’t bother me, my only guess is the forum fairies hyped it so much that it led to too much high expectations. GBK and Arghoslent are the modern day PMRC bands that Reddit nerds and Liturgy basement virgins love to hate. That’s the funderground for you of modern times.

My complaints about Arghoslent: 1. Production. I am not againt raw sound, but I feel like the first three demos have better production than this. It lacks sharpness because of this. 2. Vocals are not as punching as on the previous album. I feel like they would suit GBK that Arghoslent. They muffle the riffs a lot: for example, on the Fragrance of the Octaroon 2nd part. This album is good overall but I can not imagine someone saying this is his favourite.

The compositions on the Arghoslent album are as great as anything they did but the production does not make it enjoyable to listen to in any way. I'm totally for d**s**t production if it serves the music in some way. But here it just doesn't. If it had Hornets' sound (or even the sound of the recent Crucifier and Hearse stuff, which also featured Gelal) it would have been immense.
@jeandenver1020
@jeandenver1020 7 месяцев назад
Gelal is not on the newest/latest Crucifier or Hearse. He is a member of Crucifier now but did not play on the album, it's only Cazz and Spencer. Hearse was just Cazz and Vince, Gelal contributed some riffs but did not perform on the album.

Both albums are just underwhelming - they could never live up to the hype of their past and near (arguably) flawless releases. Everybody who is saying that the new GBK (which admittedly is better than the new Arghoslent but not too good compared to past GBK albums) and the mess that is the new Arghoslent are among their great albums are just coping fanboys. If you listen to both objectively, you can hear how uninspired and slow/tired a lot of it sounds, especially the Arghoslent which is a mess and having a bad production didn't help either.

Resuscitation of the Revanchists has 0/10 production. It's borderline unlistenable. Your argument is painfully tonedeaf and dishonest. I love Akitsa, Folkfuck Folie, whatever. Lofi production doesn't mean BAD production. Bad production means BAD prodution. It means the music is produced in a way where it's not enjoyable to listen to. Why is the new album not enjoyable to listen to? The vocals - barely audible, squished in the mix. Arghoslent vocals are typically very, very good and easy to discern which adds to the music. The vocals are so pathetically weak and muffled. Absolutely flat. The drums - you're going on a tangent but let me stop you here - I think they're programmed. Also the sound of the drums is shit. The cymbals sound weird and the kick is weird and not really dominant at all. I have to focus to take in the kick drums, it's that bad. The guitars - good riffs but somewhat sloppy playing, trash guitar tone, too much treble. This album, the style and the music isn't the kind of music you'd want if you want to listen to intentionally bad production. Hell, Galloping over the Battleruins has pretty low production but it sounds the best to me. Their demos sound really good too. It's a thoroughly unenjoyable experience. If you're the kind of person that eats 10 days old bread with a cheap ham and mustard and stale tap water and doesn't mind it, go for it. The production is extremely bad. It's fucking embarassing. I cannot name one band that has worse production. Some of the distorted barre chord riffs are tough to recognize. Have you tried listening to it on a phone?

Agree. I wish they would re-release it with their best production because songs are great. I think the problem with vocals, drums and playing would alse be solved because of that.

Fiscus Judaicus has shot into my top 10 GBK songs of all time within a month of hearing it. Also speaking of the lack of a lyric sheet, I’m morbidly curious as to what they’re saying in Turbans Nailed to Their Heads, cuz with a title like that it’s probably bad even for GBK standards

I'm not sure what the lyrics to Turbans Nailed to Their Heads are aside from a line that references Transylvania, which leads me to think that they're talking about (at least in part) Vlad the Impaler; he ordered turbans nailed to the heads of Turkish messengers who refused to remove them in his court.
