The RG Evangelion Unit 01 is here -- or, the RG All-Purpose Humanoid Decisive Battle Weapon Artificial Human Evangelion Unit 01 DX Transporter Set if you will. It's as awesome as its name is long.
Bandai has decided to welcome the EVAs to its RG series of kits and that's a good thing. Dave takes a look at this DX version of the Unit 01, based off the "Rebuild of Evangelion" series of films that are currently ongoing. We take a look at the accessories, stickers, transport unit, and Eva itself. This was the first time Dave built an RG kit and lets put it this way, he was not disappointed!
There are two versions of this kit -- the standard and DX release. The Unit 01 in both kits is exactly the same, but the DX version comes with the transport platform.

Multi colour injection has been with gunpla since the late 80s with the HG.

incredible kit, only negative sides: -Height is shorter than other eva 01 kits -Only NERV logo sticker is gun's little sticker -Chest is smaller than other Eva kits But they are not big problems.

0:00 I love that intro how the full name was stated. It's quite a long product name. 1:10 This was your first RG? Very nice. The only RGs I currently own are the ones from Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (including most of the limited, Premium Bandai releases). I'm glad that the RG Evangelion series is looking good. So far. I know that RG Evangelion Unit-00 and RG Evangelion Unit-00 DX Positron Sniper Rifle Set was recently announced as well. These must have been very popular, I preordered it on the second day it was on the website and my order went straight to backordered when it came time for the release date. Hopefully Bandai don't take too long to send out new stock.

Are the knives just copies of those used on the HG? Even the RG Strike had foldable knives.

The multiple injection color molding isn't really new technology. The early 90's HG kits did this. I think Bandai had other really early kits that were like that and I am pretty sure that their recession prevented them from using it further.

They did. The 1/100 no grades released in 1990. The F90 and many others were molded this way, but all with styrene not the modern multimedia they use now.

The strange thing is that I look for it several times in HLJ shop and I never saw it. Now that I easily find it is backordered. Also che other one without the base is backordered. I think I will never be able to buy this kit.

So uuh. Multi layered plastic injection have been around since the first HG Rx-78-2

You're nine years too late. The first multi color injection was done on the 1/100 no grade kits introduced in 1990. F90 always comes to mind.

@@dantimmerman6693 He means the 1990 RX-78 Gundam HG, which was the very first High Grade kit made. It's been discontinued since 2002 after the HGUC came out, so it's likely you probably haven't seen anything for it.

Honestly, if Bandai could just... FIGURE OUT a way to make the joints seamless, I'd be in for ten dozen kits. Their attempts in the 90s with the LM-HGs and the PG were laudable and impressive, but they MUST be able to do better nowadays instead of just throwing in the towel like they've done here. That bulging wrist, too, man. Shame... EDIT: On the subject of scale (5:50), Eva is notoriously unconcerned with depicting its mecha at anything approaching any sort of correct "scale." The original TV show, and even the Rebuild movies to an extent, changed Eva sizes all the time so as to better fit the scene. It's telling that the kit doesn't bother listing a scale at all and simply shoots for a certain tenable size. EDIT 2: I dunno... The longer the review goes on, the closer a look I get at it, the less I like its take on the design. That shoulder configuration and that unnecessary thigh "ligament" and the too-long neck and...

Stop whining, have you ever heard of Figmas? They have non rubberized joints and they still look clean. If anything, the rubber coating, no matter how good it is, will still limit the articulation either by stopping the joint from moving or pushing the joint back

@@landonjeb3219 Hi. Hope you're having a good day. I've heard of Figma. I bought a Figma Genji for my nephew. I'm not particularly interested in Figmas, but that besides, I wouldn't judge them on the same criteria as a model kit. They're not model kits; they're toys. To your other point, part of the aesthetic appeal of the Eva design, to me, is its seamlessness. I'm personally willing to trade some articulation for that seamless look. That said, my point wasn't that Bandai should maintain that aesthetic by returning to rubber sleeves per se (though, again, I wouldn't mind), but that they should maintain that aesthetic _in some way in general._ Heck, it's not even that they _should_ do anything. It would just make _me_ happy is all. And, at the very least, I think it would be a fun engineering and materials challenge for them. Anyway, hope you and yours are staying safe. Cheers!

I mean if you don't mind the limited articulation then go buy the Metacom version of unit 01 (I'm not sure if i got the name right) it’s pretty pricey but it’s the most advanced when it comes to the rubber coating on the elbows, it also has a flexible “wetsuit” type of material in the torso, hips, and knee areas for a clean looks. There is also the KO knockoff which is pretty much the same, just cheaper.

Dude, paying £100 is a rip off for this kit. Just buy it from hobby link japan for somewhere around $52 (minus international shipping) which would still be cheaper with shipping (possibly pushing it towards $70) than buying it off amazon

too many liberties in the design, dont like all the stickers, was never a fan of the artworks that had stickers on the pillon and the spine umbilical cable entry is the wrong color
