This is gorgeous! It's rare to hear really great solo works like this for low reeds. As a bassoonist myself, I appreciate some of the soli moments I hear in there. (:
I wish we had the bari for so much longer! I can only imagine what Mozart or Bach could’ve pulled out of this thing. The bari lacking repertoire is a tragedy
@@xaviermarican4557 some of the bach cello suites are performed on bari sax. several flute partitas as well as oboe and flute sonatas sound great with soprano sax.
I had the pleasure of playing this tune and I absolutely Loved it! Thank you Mark for composing this piece and for allowing me to play it in front of you!!
Thie piece is crazy good. Tuneful, exciting writing for the soloist plus terrific orchestration. The composer, in addition to being an outstanding baritone saxophonist, knows how to make a symphonic band sound rich and powerful. This is a highly listenable work that's fun without being banal or simplistic. Very well done!
Mark Watters truly is amazing!!! I'm hoping to play this next year (senior year of high school) so my school librarian contacted him. Wouldn't you know, Watters gives us a photocopy of the full score FOR FREE. So kind. And such a beautiful piece and solo too. Thank you, Mr. Watters. Hopefully my school will be able to purchase this so you can have a momentous impact on my senior year!
Unbelievable performance. I was 1st chair in all state band in high school in GA and videos like this didn’t exist 10 years ago. Absolutely loved it. And for those altissimo g’s a’s and that one high b, absolutely ridiculous lol.
This is amazing, and amazingly difficult... I play bari sax in my high school marching band and jazz band, and all lack of technique and skill aside, I can guarantee my old instrument can't bring its keys up fast enough for those runs. What an incredible piece of musical literature, though
The most amazing Bari song I've ever heard. I appreciate the amount of skill this song takes. I wish I could play this song though. The highest note I can hit on my Bari is high G. So unfortunately I won't be able to play it until I have a decent Bari that can hit high notes well. Every other Bari I've ever played on could do high notes so beautifully. Russian Sailors' Dance was my 8th grade solo and I got a superior in it. But this, if I could play this, that would show I am a good player and I work for my spot
Awesome. Most people I see who try to play it for a solo and ensemble performance usually have critical errors. My judge had nothing bad to say. He said I played it perfectly. And he was one of the toughest judges
As a baritone saxophonist and an oboist, I love this piece, especially that little back-and-forth section between bari and oboe lol. I'm gonna be doing a ("simplified") version of this next year--senior year--with my school's band and I'm so excited to have this feature! Go bari sax! Also, I can't decide if this piece reminds me more of the Legend of Zelda or Mario Galaxy lol
@Matthew Benedict Removing or changing up some of the quicker notes and rhythms in the accompanying parts, mostly. Also changing the instrumentation (adding saxes!) so our poor french hornist doesn't have to wail on high B's or whatever
He did do a few things for Disney actually ^^ as well as other animated films: including All Dogs Go To Heaven 2, The Pebble and the Penguin, Tom Sawyer, Doug's 1st Movie, Babes In Toyland (1997), and tv cartoons like Bonkers and Goof Troop. He also composed music for the Olympic Ceremonies of Atlanta 1996 and Salt Lake City 2002
As a composition, it reminds me of Leonard Bernstein. Not at all bad. And while it might never be considered a Major Work, it'll get many performances at college band concerts and senior recitals.
Mark Watters Music is it possible to get a pdf of some sort of just the bari part as shown here? I’m doing a concerto competition and if I win I get to buy the whole arrangement for orchestra and play it.
