I think Priest gives Seth the shot because someone did get involved, whether it was his fault or not. He knows that he really didn’t beat Seth. Seth wasn’t pinned or submitted, he had nothing to do with the finish. So, Priest is essentially saying “I didn’t beat YOU, so you can get another shot because I know that I can beat you”. It makes perfect sense to me. Seth can still be mad because he was right there and could’ve won but Punk got involved and gave Priest the win. He didn’t win the title, and Seth told Punk to not get involved in his business, which he did.

So the rope break in no DQ matches thing, I actually like. The fall must take place in the ring. If the opponent reaches the ropes, part of them isnt in the ring. Therefore the fall won't count. You dont have to break the submission, but you can't tap them out.

You guys are over analyzing the storyline lol. They needed someone to make the title relevant while Rhea is gone and Liv has done that. They needed to keep Rhea buzzing while doing that and this storyline has done the job. Now everyone is guessing where it goes from here. They’ve somehow figured out a way to get everyone hooked on this storyline. Raw is genius booking. Punk & Rhea haven’t wrestled at all and been recovering while having their names mentioned or been featured on most of the shows and are a part of the 2 hottest storylines on the brand.

If someone breaks into your house and steals your stuff, the burglar isn’t off the hook because a charity drive raised money to replace it. If Punk was the good guy here, he’d ask Pearce to give Rollins another shot at the belt because of ‘the consequences of his actions.’ Last bit of the podcast was great. Grifters selling hate is everywhere and it is sad. To paraphrase a great man…don’t let them in.

Punk had an opportunity this week to apologize to Seth but he couldn't cause it's Seth. After the Damien segment now next week Seth has an opportunity to forgive Punk since he didn't actually get costed anything, but he won't cause its Punk. Both men just don't like each other there feud lost nothing by Seth getting a title shot from Damien imo

Idk I really liked the Priest thing even with the Punk segment. I didn't like the MITB finish because it's another bad story telling thing of tossing Priest to the side yet again in his own championship picture. Doing more like this segment to make him at least a bit more of the honorable champion while you keep screwing up ppvs for him is at least something. And Seth can still be mad at Punk, I don't get why he wouldn't, even when he gets the small win of another potential chance. In my head, it's like you're about to win a board game with Friend B, Friend C is mad at Friend B and gets up from the couch and flips the table. You were about to win! You can still be mad at Friend C for taking away that win, even if Friend B says you can play again later.

Wow I disagree on a lot here. I think Seth/Punk is fine because the whole issue was Punk not caring who he hurt, plus they were going to feud for less at Mania. Also they have time to build real heat for that because Drew and Punk isnt a one and done. Also Liv and Rhea story works so well, the whole point was Liv taking everything including Dom and the belt. I truly believe Dom turns on Rhea after she gives him grief for weeks while Liv sweettalks him. Also Wyatt Sick6, why do you not want them to be slightly spooky, they should be creepy as hell, thats the point they are here for family and to keep Brays memory going. Taking away the creepy aspect ruins the gimmick

I believe the context of rope breaks is that since it's not falls count anywhere, technically if you're touching the rope you're outside of the designated area for a fall.

Jimmy Korderas explained rope breaks in multi-man matches pretty well. Said that ropes are the border of the ring, so unless it’s a falls-count-anywhere match than a pin fall or submission wouldn’t count if they’re touching the ropes.

When you guys are discussing the "bad storytelling" aspect of the opening angle in relation to Priest saying "it's all good, bruv", i'm curious how you're approaching this. Are you approaching this as though each of these are independent characters who are (to some extent) oblivious to what's going on in the ring, or in other parts of the arena? Or are you taking it as though they're flesh puppets working in the theater of the mind of one individual? You talk about how Judgement day walks in on Dom doing things, and they act surprised (rightfully so), but then Priest, walking around the back, sees seth and you expect him to know what was said between them. Clearly Priest was feeling guilty about the actions of someone else. He took that match as his chance to really cement himself as the main event guy, as the top champ on Raw, but then he got screwed because two guys who weren't announced for the match, jumped in and ruined his moment to shine in the main even of one of the big 5 PLEs. Don't forget character agency and motivations, and that they may not coincide with what we as audience members see.

This past month or so has been the most I’ve enjoyed watching WWE week to week in a long time

Have Luke and Dan actually been watching Raw?? They are both saying Dom should have been chipped away at, given in slowly more and more etc… Did they miss the episode where Dom and Livv were seen in the background of a scene coming out of the same room? Or when Dom got a smile on his face when Livv was ruffling his hair on another episode? Or the look Dom had when he started to unzip the vest when he was trying to get it back from Livv? What they are complaining should have happened is literally what actually happened 🤷‍♂️

I like the beginning section talking about how you critique the show. It makes sense because I really hate video game journalists and movie reviewers but I understand that's their job is to nitpick while my job is to watch movies and play games because I love them. I don't think Seth and Priest segment is bad storytelling. Now, Seth will allow Punk to take his revenge on McIntyre and says this is your final warning & not to involve in his business in future ever again. With Priest losing belt at SS, Seth will have a match with Gunthur down the line which Punk gonna cost him again, which further Punk Seth story into Night 1 Wrestlemania Main Event.

Pinfall muqt happens inside the ring, ropes are considered out of bounds that's why there are rope breaks for pinfalls in no dq matches. Submissions are an other story.

I appreciate this podcast and it makes my fandom even more enjoyable as you guys produce so many hours of enjoyable content every week, but regarding the priest vs Rollins match and punk vs Rollins segment, I would argue that promoting the match or PLE based on the "stipulation" is misleading. Kayfabe-wise, this was never a "sanctioned" or corporate stipulation; hence, they referred to it as a "gentleman's agreement." A stipulation typically serves as a marketing tool for the match, such as an "I Quit," "Hell in a Cell," or "No Holds Barred" match, which are usually explicitly advertised as such. In contrast, a gentleman's agreement simply means that the two participants have made a personal deal, which can indeed be revoked by either party since there is no official presiding authority or promotion/company enforcing it within the kayfabe context. However, I do agree that WWE should’ve done a little more work or write a different way to achieve the priest face turn and punk vs Rollins interaction (even though it was some of Rollins best work promo wise in a while) Love you guys, stay blessed/stay awesome

The irony of the Rollins/Punk segment was Rollins came across as the biggest self-centred narcissist because all he could think about was that he was missing out on a World Title shot for a little bit, while CM Punk was justifiably getting revenge for the physical and emotional attack he suffered at the hands of McIntyre. Rollins has never liked Punk because Punk is organically over without the need of a catchy tune. Rollins is the jealous heel in this 100%.

Well, if you compare pro wrestling to a soap opera like you guys do a lot, I think it makes sense that the story is "spinning it's wheels". Soap operas are notoriously long and because they spend more time investing in the small subtle moments. That way most episodes, not a lot happens. It's sort of comfort TV. Opening the TV to see the funny things Liv and Dom are doing this week. However, it is quite different still. It's a fine line in wrestling between stories being told like a long soap opera or more like a long running episodic TV show.

You know, I really have been into this story of Priest slowly turning face because of how much he values the championship and how much he wants to be respected as champion. So I really enjoyed Priest being honourable in the moment. But you explaining why it’s bad storytelling because of how it means Seth has no reason to be mad at Punk? Yeah you’re right. When you explain it like that, you are actually right and you’ve changed my mind. Kudos to having nuanced and thoughtful discussions about wrestling. I may not agree with every single thing you critique about the show, but 100% of your criticisms are in good faith, so I enjoy watching you discuss things even when I disagree with you. Keep up the good work guys!

I disagree about Punk costing Seth the title . It was Drew that tried to cash his MITB in and Punk simply stopped him from doing that . Seth has noone to blame but himself for losing cuz he took the eye off the prize. I LOVED PUNK gave that match some much needed hype and more of a storyline . It’s the wording of what priest said to seth he said after he gets past Gunther he can have a shot. I think that’s wwe conditioning us to believe that priest will win. And unless there’s an interference on his behalf most people believe Gunther is walking out champ. So either way thar agreement would not have mattered past summerslam

I’m 100% with you Luke on the Seth/Priest bit - I was looking forward to seeing Seth away from the title and it would’ve spun up multiple feuds with Seth and Punk too. I’m sure we’ll see this as a “you’re looking past Gunther” sort of story for Priest - but I’m not sure what they’ll have Seth do now unless he’s off for a bit now

I think Seth's issue with Punk is just the boiling over of his rage from Punk's return. Punk being Punk has now interfered with Seth's life, so Seth can ignore him no longer.

The decision they made having Damien just say when I'm done with Gunther you get another shot..he's losing to Gunther wholeheartedly now and that just sucks..it would destroy all storytelling if Damien wins now and doesn't help the guy AT ALL. Damien throwing out the agreement makes him worse off because of the botch and shouldn't be the 1 changing his decisions now because of CM punk unless next week Damien talks to Punk because seriously he's the only guy getting involved in HIS matches not judgment day. Is triple H actually a good booker or just got extremely lucky with the Rock situation and Punk injury? Before that, all his plans were extremely predictable and dull. Which is exactly where we are heading now again.

I disagree with the undercutting to the Seth and priest promo. Why I say this because in simple writing you can have priest just say I wanna beat Seth for the title to fix it. And by fixing it I personally didn’t pinned Seth and Because of that I wanna prove myself as well and they accomplish it in this segment to me. And for Seth perspective it’s really just him having a bit of selfishness that just deprives him to want to make cm punk miserable, But in my manner and in a complex fashion to satisfy those who don’t like the segment, we haven’t even played out Gunther’s perspective and his motives on that situation, so I would have a promo to raise more of the drama and have Gunther make a bet with priest that if he beats priest Seth you can’t challenge for the title at all until gunther see fit he can possibly no later then payback or survivor series. And at summerslam you can have cm punk and drew fighting and beating the hell out of each other during this specific match and this what cost priest in the process of Finn turning on him and getting involved like he’s coming to help him with jd and liv all to low blow him all to priest to kick out of a near fall which Seth is around the announce team and help him flee off judgement day and liv with a chair and this is a bit of overbooking but to really cost priest the match you have drew and cm punk brawling through the crowd then to the ring with just all chaos and it distracts priest by having him on the outside to get claymore by drew and Seth stopping cm punk by yelling at him why the hell they are out here out of all times which punk moves out of the way from a chair shot intended for punk by drew which knocks out Seth and priest rolls in the ring still lingering from the claymore all for him to get drop kicked by Gunther and power bomb for the 1 2 3 and you accomplish two birds in one stone. You have one side of Seth mad at not only punk but drew and another side of priest on his own but mad at judgement day which is Finn.

But 1 thing everyone is missing, this also means the DP vs Gunther wont have the worry of Gunther being screwed with a cashin during his match, and he wont have to worry bout the MitB cashin during his reign. The only "surprise" opponent for Gunther will now be a RR winner, but even then he will have a couple months to prepare. So the "King General" Gunther should have a long reign, bc of that cash-in, and all his opponents should get built up, and not a surprise cash-in on him

I don't think Roman gets a bigger pop than this for his return, especially if its tied to the Solo story. Rhea is the biggest star in WWE, she's more popular to mainstream fans than Roman, Cody, Seth, and Becky.

I agree the hate online is a bit much, but I don’t agree with the rating. It’s kinda weird that shows can have their highs and lows and then it feels like the negatives are ignored. Forbidden Door was a very good show and a four out of five is a respectable rating. It had its issues like the Jericho match and with any AEW PPV, the run time is forever long. WWE has their issues too and I think some, not all, but some were irked because you’re going into the review and you had a botchy and kinda scary women’s money in the bank ladder match, extreme product placement, an hour and a half of wrestling on an over 3 hour PLE, which if this was a PPV pre Network, this would be a horrible value and of time, but it gets five out of five because of one good story and Jacob Fatu. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. There are some who are rightful questioning the rating and some who are being assholes. Internet is toxic. Do what you can, but don’t shut everyone out and lump everyone in as empty headed dingleberries because they have an opinion different than your own is all. 👍
