Greg and Rhod are such exceptional human beings. I'd have never have guessed that they suffer from shyness. I love the honesty in this video. Can't wait to watch the documentary. I suffer from social phobia and I now tell everyone because it does help to be open about it.

Rhod you are a gifted, highly intelligent, witty man. I can't get enough of you. Hope you keep going for many years to go. You masked your shyness perfectly. Hope the documentary liberates you.

I have social anxiety and most of the reason for that is because I am aware that I come out with tactless things, and don’t want to hurt people unintentionally… so I just stay quiet. I’m also an introvert and find being around people very difficult. It’s good to see that even successful famous people have these issues as well!

It is so great that Rhod made this documentary, I am very grateful for it. I took improve class and realized that I love it and people said I am quite good at it but for some reason I think that it is not for me because I am very shy and have problems with social anxiety. It brings confidence when such a great comedian tells that he had similar thoughts.

If you don't know Colin Mochrie, look him up. He is one of the main talents on "whose line is it anyway" and a super talented, creative and absolutely crazy improviser. And also, rather quiet and shy outside of that. It's much more common than you may think. ;)

Absolutely wonderful, wonderful, warm, brilliant, funny man. I have loved him ever since he had me crying with laughter at his luggage skit on Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow. It did honestly feel like a recognizable energy within him, I think other shy people, especially introverts, are very much in tune with each other, so we're sensitive and we can recognize it in others. Some of my best friends are those I've met on the sidelines with me. Something he said at around 24:20 near enough made me cry. I have always ADORED comedy and making people laugh and have always longed to do something with it but I am just too shy and under confident. I have a degree in Theatre & Performance and that was hard enough, it was awful. My close friends are always saying the same to me, like you're funny and you should 'do something' with it... but I just can't. Like he said, people like me don't do things like that! But what he said just made me feel so much better about it. Not only is he a wonderful, funny man but he is always a wise mentor and teacher. He should be very proud of everything he's achieved.

So many similarities with me. I’ve hid in toilets.. found school a total nightmare.. never asked a girl out until I was 27 (thank god I finally managed). And yet perform on stage as a musician, every week.

I found this and the documentary very interesting. I'd say I'm quite an extrovert now, but when I was little I was very much shy, and I still am in some selective situation, but generally I'm quite outgoing now. when I was young I used to hide behind my parents or friends when I met new people, especially adults, and around 5 I had a harder time making friends so I just met people through my one main friend, but I could also warm up to people very quickly and I'd talk and talk. I figure I've outgrown a lot of it, though in a new environment I'll sometimes be absolutely silent, but after not too long I can just talk for ages to a lot of people, though it takes a little longer for me to go ahead and get myself to talk to someone I don't know. and I don't like going into shops, freaks me out, but after I've gotten it over with one time I tend to go back to the same shops and I would get almost the same thing over and over again, I don't know if it's because I knew it was safe or what, but I still do that. but the thing is whenever I'm around anyone shyer than me I don't have a problem.

Whats the difference between shyness and social anxiety? I don't think they are the same becuase I think shyness can just be a preference to be alone or to not be around too many people.BUt social anxiety is when people probably want to be extrovert or around people but just can't do it and it makes them uncomfortable. There is far too much pressure to be extrovert in our society and people think because you are loud or outspoken you are confident or know what you are saying. We need to give room and space for those who are shy or more backwards in coming forward to say what they would like as too often the loudest voices win over and we do not hear from those who have interesting things to say

Also that quietness that father was talking about with his son is called selective mustism".I think ist dangerous though when we start seeing these things as "conditions"or like Rid says as things that need to be changed unless they are holding peiople back or causing distress becaue we have to allow alot more diversity and for people to be who they want to be.There is far too much pressure to come across as confident or unvulnerable or to appear as if you know what you are doing and always in control and the truth is most people are fumbling through life without a clue. We need more honesty and transparency generally

Is there a name for a condition of the complete opposite. I have panic attacks just thought of public speaking. I feel people are not interested in what I have to say. Or what I have written is crap. I’m confident communicating with people one on one, no problem talking on the phone & a great sales person. Mind you I didn’t speak until I was 7 years old ❓🤷‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🐨🐨🦘🦘🇦🇺🇦🇺

It seems like you have stage fright when it comes to many people. We are more in control of our shyness one on one, but the feeling of many people judging us and that we don’t know what they are thinking, can be debilitating. I was interested in what you had to say. It seems like you have a lot of negative self talk which you need to check and change. Best of luck

I agree I think underneath all of this is "trauma"and not always the obvious traumas like abuse or violence but sometimes just having parents who are not attuned to your needs or neglectful in some way, even benign neglect.Sounded like Rods father did not face his own "shyness"or insecurities so it gets passed on and he thinks its hereditary"
