Despite Joe and Brenda's insistence that she butt out, Rhoda continues to plunge ahead to prove to her younger sister that her new boyfriend is really a married man. Air Date: December 2, 1974
This one makes me laugh like crazy. I remember them all from first time around, watching with Mum in UK, fantastic forever memories. Wonderful cast 💜💕🌈
Love Roda’s outfit in the outro , it’s fabuuuulas 😄 don’t get cool cloths like that anymore and all the red is just gorgeous . Enjoyed this witty series ♥️
Loved this episode, but then again, I loved the whole show in general. I've seen every episode of "Rhoda". I love Carlton, too! In real life, Lorenzo Music (Carlton) helped created the show.
I love Brenda’s red outfit. I had a sweater just like Rhoda. Nice clothing. And Rhoda was funny married as well as single. They just make her marry too fast. The “Joe” episode should have been later In the season.
You mean the rust colored one with the trees? Rust was huge back then. So were tops with trees or sunsets or rainbows . I had a pair of rust colored corduroy gauchos and knee high boots that I adored. How I miss the styles back then. I had something black with the colored stripes like Rhoda's top but I cant remember the exact style. Those were the days.
The first time I saw actor Barry Brown (Jimmy Klein) was in this episode. I was drawn to him. I thought he was so cute, especially his sad innocent eyes, and his voice reminding me of the late actor Jimmy Stewart. After researching online, I was so saddened to hear that he died in 1978. What a shame especially at the tender age of 27. What could have been.
Yolanda Grady That’s a pretty inaccurate description. If the other shows aren’t tolerable, why do you keep watching them? I don’t understand why people on here like to complain about the program and the characters, yet they subject themselves to it.
Look up the 73 cougar. Joe had the convertible. A sexy car for its day. The 59 Desoto was a perfect foil of a behemoth with exaggerated fins and room for a family of 7! Both at this point are sweet. Love Joe's comment at the end.
I think it's true that Rhoda risks turning into her mother LOL! Perhaps if she stayed married longer and had children the transformation would one day be completed :-)
Its amazing how women in these TV shows always thought they were 'fat' Brenda and Rhoda are slim and beautiful but in almost every episode they denigrate their looks. When I was a kid I took it seriously now I see how insidious it was. (although I love the show otherwise)
OMG.......You’re acting like she had some personal choice on all aspects of her character. She wasn’t choosing to be this way, she was playing a part and everything was completely scripted. She is an actress who is playing a part!!!
Tampa Bay Lightning OMG.......You’re acting like she had some personal choice on all aspects of her character. She wasn’t choosing to be this way, she was playing a part and everything was completely scripted. She is an actress who is playing a part!!!
Is is me or does anyone else hear Joan Rivers’ humor in this series? I’ve seen them all and I often hear Rivers brand of humor, in fact I even see Rhoda making the same sort of physical expressions and mannerisms. I wonder if Joan Rivers ever wrote for this series. Pay attention folks and tell me what you think!
I loved everything about this series.... *except* Carlton. Not too keen on Joe either. Sad about guest star Barry Brown who shot himself on June 25, 1978... about 4 years after this episode.
Looking back after all these years - I’m thinking that perhaps Roda needed more from Joe than he was able to offer. As a loving husband, possibly he could have given more emotional support to Roda. I love both of the characters-and wish that the writers could have set them on a more universal and positive journey. Marriage isn’t for everyone - especially during the 1970s when there were radical societal changes in the world. ❤
Love Valerie Harper in other works she did like various tv series as guest star. However, once they broke up the marriage & the character was back to the same storylines as when she was on MTM series, I lost interest & watch only reruns of Rhoda & Joe. The opening becomes sad monologue, then the return of character's same negative events. Why couldn't Rhoda be a success story. The golden heart of Rhoda deserved it. 💛
David Groh was Jewish and didn't flaunt it, Neither did Julie if you ask me. Valerie was Catholic but you would never had guessed her her religius affiliation except they were exceptional actors. The Jewish aspect was played out in a more subtle form than other shows or other stars who really exaggerated it.
Your comment seems slightly racist. It's like, it's okay to be Jewish as long as you don't flaunt it. Don't advertise the fact that you are an inferior, slobbering, bug-eyed, hook-nosed beast. Keep all of that stuff inside, and you will be fine. I'm sure there is a neo-nazi meeting in your neighbourhood, that would welcome you with open arms.
I had that happen to me with a married guy; he told me he was letting an unstable gal from AA stay with him. After he died (cancer), his widow tore into me on FB; I didn't have the heart to tell her I had no clue he was married. She wouldn't've believed me anyhow.
@@2degucitas Thank you. She's happily remarried, far's I know. Good for her. She deserved better than her 1st husband. I also figured out that I deserve to be more than "the other woman" or "interim girlfriend". So, I don't date any more. Oh, and the pandemic, lol.
Benny Goodwin was a clueless dunderhead. Brenda should have ended up with Michael, the FBI agent who was surveilling from Brenda's apartment. Handsome, smart, and sweet. They seemed to really be in love. He was the only person of quality that Brenda ever dated. Not Lenny Fiedler, not Nick Lobo, not Gary Levy. And sadly, not dopey Benny Goodwin.
Loretta Adomeit ~~Why would they do that???? She was playing a certain character and they dressed her appropriately for that character. Plus it was the 1970s and people weren’t wearing bras as much during the women’s Lib movement. So enough.......stop with the comments already! 🙄
I liked the eps showing Brenda at her Weight Watchers meetings, but they must not have been uploaded. She was funny at those meetings. When she lost all that weight, she was no longer needed there, and she felt 'lost'. Brenda was funny and sweet, but naive about men. Joe was always sweet to her. Rhoda has them live somewhat expensively, the way their apt. is furnished, no wonder Joe gets stressed about expenses sometimes. In Minnesota she lived like a hippie, but in NYC it's like she demands to live high on the hog. Rhoda was always ruling over Brenda. I couldn't have stood that. The thing is, not every married couple wear rings. Some can't afford them.
I used to think this show was so funny when I was a kid but now its sad and outdated. Marriage, marriage, marriage..... Thank goodness women set their sights higher these days.
In that kind of situation its good to found out early before the victim fell in love with the married person and it would have been harder to leave them! P.S. Carltons a mess, lol!
I loved the show. Now I watch the reruns but I stopped watching it when her a Joe broke up. Then it was to much about the sister Brenda so I stopped watching it.
I hate Joe, but in this episode, l sorta kinda like him when he spoke up & told the cheater off (his way of course)... tolerable but still NVR understood why Rhoda had to marry him...ijs
My goodness Julie you lost so much weight between Ep. 13 and 14. Too fast on loosing weight, slow down hot rod. Loosing weight fast is how we lost Oliver Hardy. Never lose weight fast, research why on RU-vid. Good Luck. Can't wait to see show with Julie and Tony Banta. Never got to watch these when in high school my mom thought these were not appropriate for young girls - hers. So we grew up ignorant and went crazy as soon as we could. Yep that was the way of it. Get the heck out and run from your parents.
I used to watch this show when it was on TV. Now I am amazed at how female-centric and Jewish-centric it was. And it's not that funny. Joe is a very lame and flat character. This show is so unlike Mary Tyler Moore's show with its mix of rich and hilarious characters. But Rhoda is better than being poked in the eye with a stick.
Joseph LaCerra Then why the hell are you even watching this?? You sit here and watch a program you don’t like and then criticize it. Why put yourself through all that, when you could just be watching a program you do like. People like you amaze me because you are totally negative, and just want attention at any price. Grow up, you’re acting just like a little boy. 🙄
What's an anti-Semite and a misogynist doing watching (and commenting) on a show about a Jewish woman? Watch 'The Waltons' instead, you ignorant Nazi. Oh, and have a lovely day.
It's good and educational to watch a show about cultural and religious differences. At least it wasn't shoved down your throat like other shows or movies. As a gay, lapsed Catholic, White male, I was never offended or put off by those insignificant issues.
