@Cheryl Young Just because she was 81 (actually 80 but that's besides the point) it means one is not supposed to grieve and be saddened by her passing? My grandfather passed away when he was 92 and it took me a long time to come to terms with it. You can be saddened and grief stricken for the death of someone who was 80 equally as much for someone who'd passed away at 30.
Professionally, Valerie was nominated for a Tony but in her personal life she got to win a Tony (Cacciotti) and kept winning each and every year they were together.
When she said, “you’re right, I shouldn’t have asked that…..but since I did, why don’t you answer me?” or “too late, you’ve already clinked!” Too funny! How is it Julie Kavner and Valerie Harper have Emmys, but not Nancy Walker?!? Travesty.
Valerie you were my Teenage Icon not only will you pretty you would talented and I can relate as a Jewish woman to everything that went on on the show you're truly missed rest in peace my fellow Virgo
@@marinazagrai1623Huh? I went there as a Canadian teen in a photography class trip in 1988 and it was great. Stayed right near Times Square - took my friends on a horse and buggy ride in Central Park and made them go for dinner at the famous Sardi’s because I’d seen it in many old movies I was a fan of and met Eddie Mekka coming out of the door when I held it open for him. He was surprised a teenager recognized him because he was bald for a role in a play. We also went to Greenwich Village, Chinatown, Battery Park and the Empire State Building. Hard Rock Cafe was a letdown though. I’m still salty the waiter took my half finished sandwich without asking when I turned to talk to someone. That shit was expensive back then and I was still hungry. Still don’t know how we fit so much into one weekend and why teachers gave kids so much freedom to explore a strange (in a good way) city. Yet, I’m still alive and I played on railroad tracks as a young child…
I never missed this show. I thought Rhoda was hilarious. I wanted her as my best friend. The show was so well written. She will be missed. I love you Valerie.
Great episode! Never seen it before. Thank you for posting. Joan Van Ark who played Marion, Joe's ex-wife, was such a beautiful woman before she hacked her face to pieces with multiple atrocious plastic surgeries.
I ❤️ Rhoda. She is a strong lady even though she airs all of her frustrations and insecurities the average person carries, but won’t talk about. In the end after the drama, she always keeps her chin, comes out on the top, and pushed forward.
Mike Bibeault I agree! I put off watching this because I assumed this particular episode wouldn't be all that funny but it actually was. Mostly hilarious due to Ida. Lol. She's a trip. PS: Ok, how many times is that 1 glass of wine gonna get re-poured? It was Ida's, then she put it in a fresh glass for Marion's date, & then at the end, she was pouring it in Rhoda's glass (who by the way didn't need more wine since being tipsy was the whole reason Ida & Martin had to come get her.)
Yolanda Grady I didnt think it would be funny either. But,was hilarious! Ida is a trip! The pouring wine back & forth in glasses was too funny! And I agree Rhoda didnt need no more. Lol😂
I really love Brenda's apartment. It's so cozy and has that vintage aesthetic I adore. Wish I could someday find an apt like that in NYC but w/70s pricing, LOL.
Rhoda's Bohemian apt,was definitely me,but I loved Mary Tyler Moore's fashion and always loved Betty White, And The Golden Girls and Designing Women. That entire era, was great and then came Dallas,Dynasty, Falcons Hurst, and the 60's, 70's 80's exceptional fashion.
I find that I every time I obsess over a show I end up buying a mug or a sweatshirt of it😂 i did the same with cheers, Laverne and Shirley... i love Rhoda now! You 70s people grew up with some great shows. :)
Kass Ayala Yep! We had great shows back in the day! Every night, there was something worth turning the tv on for in the 70s. We had some cool, memorable shows in the 80s & even a few in the 90s too. But as I write this in 2017, it seems like tv's great heyday has passed. I'm so thankful for RU-vid! There are a few channels that show retro tv shows but it's usually just the same few shows repeatedly instead of expanding to include more old tv series we used to enjoy.
Kass Ayala I was nine when this show aired as a spin off of the MTM Show, yes we kids from the 70's had great shows to watch, Saturday night on CBS was always "Mary Tyler Moore" "All In The Family" "Maude" and "The Carol Burnette Show" I actually remember watching the premier of "Saturday Night Live" with my two older brothers.
Love this show! Valerie was SO beautiful and funny. Such a talented woman. I think I’ll be binge watching these episodes. RIP 🙏, thank you for all the laughter.
Things really went down in quality as the series went on, but even so, i still like to watch the stinky episodes anyway, because the characters are so beloved.
2:24 That blouse that Valerie is wearing would fit right in today's styles!!! Watch the reruns of "The Bionic Woman." Lindsay Wagner has some neat clothes!! As well!!
belia1313 Lastes The 'kind of' guys are better because they are often 'kinder'. As in life, there are no easy/foolproof keys, clues, fixes or answers. Often there are 'tells', 'red flags', warning signs and especially, watch out for anyone who is "too good to be true". A good thing to do is listen to or research other people's experiences, behaviors, those 'Ted talks', etc. And always take everything with 'a pound of salt'. Trust your instincts, but remember, if you're from any type of abusive background or experience (especially a child witnessing adults/caregivers/parental abuse) your safety issues may be lacking or screwed. (Also, regarding love/hate/indifference, IF YOU LOVE YOUR ABUSER, (example: your father), YOUR FEELINGS ARE NOT WRONG, but THERE MUST BE SERIOUS, SEVERE, CUTTING OFF (ENDING/STOPPING CONTACT UNTIL >AS A CAPABLE ADULT LIMITED CONTACT maybe only still by phone or letters, address withheld, CONTACT BETWEEN EQUALSWHICH WILL BE 'AHEAD TRIP', BECAUSE THE ABUSER IS A MANIPULATOR). To repeat, you can still love the perpetrator, IF THAT'S IN YOUR HEART, BUT NEVER LEAVE A VICTIM TO BE VICTIMIZED. Sometimes, I put certain comments in 'unusual' places, but when I feel motivated, that's what I do, usually comments are about Jesus or death, so consider yourselves 'lucky', lol! Seriously, concerning death, 'LOVE. NEVER. DIES.' The love of your 'loved ones' who have 'passed on' before you (even the minutes old babies, when you meet them in Heaven, you will be amazed at their personalities, their family resemblance, etc.& you'll say, "I knew you were going to be brilliant!"), not only lives on forever, but grows stronger in remembrance (even the fighting & hard times, you'll eventually remember with tears of understanding & laughter!)
@@angelacarleton9575 I think Joan's most unfortunate plastic surgery mishap is whatever she's had done to her lips. They look like reconstructed lips of a burn victim. Other than that, I think it's just bad makeup choices for her these days...
I was so upset about Valerie's Harper death couldn't even write about it - I thought of her as absolutely beautiful, attractive - and played this part bang on to the hilt -it was awesome - cannot tell you how extraordinary I felt this show was - and notice - real life - no cell phones, no computer screens - just real life, real writing and real comedy.
Watching this, I can forget the hellacious year 2020 and return to the 70s, a mad, giddy time when it was so much fun to be young. Thank you, Valerie Harper, for the joy you gave.
The last time I watched RHODA was back in the day here in Malta as a teenager...iv just stumbled on it & after watching this episode it reminds me why it was such a hit back than & why I enjoyed it so very much!! (Already decided I'm getting the box set for xmas!!) Rest in peace Valerie Harper. Love from malta😎
I think one of the best things from the Rhoda show was Brenda. Some of the later shows didn't age well, too much outdated therapy after the divorce, but Brenda was a joy and was featured more after Joe went bye-bye.
We used to have " make out parties" in Cobo after School...5 girls and us four lads...we were all ten...some of the things we got up to took sex education to a whole new level!!! Shocking!!!
Rhodha is a timeless TV SERIES - thanks for the upload - I really like the tops that she wears, fashion designers should recreate an updated fashion collection from her TV shows
I love the volume on this! I'm serious, this must be the first YT video where I lowered the volume. (I have my volume set on maximum level even with my headphones on.) I didn't have to use headphones.
Both women were beautiful when this show was taped. Each in their own way. Unfortunately, one chose plastic surgery instead of growing old gracefully. I’m sure she has regretted that decision ever since. If only we could accept ourselves as we are, the world would be a more beautiful place.
21:50 - Ida always had a way of totally making a fool out of people, especially those who really deserved it. She knew Marian was a total witch and even in her own home, wasn't afraid to just let her have it!
Remember in “Romy & Michelles High School Reunion” when they got into a fight over who was like Rhoda & who was like Mary- implying that Mary was the prettier one.....I always thot Rhoda was so much prettier. She looks beautiful in these episodes. ....Mary was great but Rhoda was also funnier.
Had to pay a visit to see Rhoda, after seeing my mum on her 80th birthday yesterday!! Part of the day was reminiscing about watching Rhoda back in the day, great memories!! ....RIP Valerie 😊💕
I'm so glad that this popped up in my YT feed right between two nauseating "Election Results" videos. My mental health is already better after watching this. In fact, I am going to escape back to the 70s for the next few months. No more main stream fake news and other garbage. It's so soothing to live is a fantasy world.
I forgot that Joan Van Ark plays Joe's ex-wife.....who knew she'd go on to her most famous role on Knots Landing just 3 years later (starting on Dallas)....
Wow! That was a GOOD line at the end to close the show. Honestly I was born way after is show and I'm only learning about it here on RU-vid but this is fantastic, timeless writing. Good comedy transcends generations.
I wonder how many more RU-vid channels I'm going to find that are uploading Valerie's TV show because she passed away, this was a wonderful idea thank you for uploading this, she was a great actress and she will be missed
"Ma, I don't need any 'meat money'!" Love this show so hard now, I want to cry when I watch it! How did we become such an ugly society and move so far from this more witty and loving time?
The foreshadowing was clear from the inception: Joe was divorced and had no desire to remarry; Rhoda was lovely but insecure and transparently needy. It could never work.
Hilarious episode, I should have known that Ida would put that snobby ex-wife in her place -- in the most subtle way possible!! Nancy Walker was brilliant, so was everyone on this show!
Remember on the MTM show......when Rhoda had a creepy date who wouldn't leave, so Ida, staying with Mary, marched upstairs to chase out the weirdo guy? She packed a lot of intimidation in her tiny frame.
@@msr1116 Nancy/Ida's force majeure strength of character was a "quicker picker upper" that fast wiped the counter with the liquefied remains of her k.o.'d adversaries. My favorite Nancy Walker quote is "what 'failure'? You either do a thing, or you don't."
Rhoda looked sensational in this episode. Ida was hysterical in this episode. Joan Van Ark (Knots Landing) looked awesome too. Brenda ( The Simpsons) is so funny too and the only one who is still alive from the Rhoda cast. RIP Valerie, Nancy, and David!
Incredibly talented cast and writers! Nancy Walker has some immortal lines! Thanks so much for uploading these. We need a little humor these days. 🧡🙏🕊️ RIP to all who have gone ahead. 🤍🙏🕊️
Emily Edwards The writers had to adhere to strict moral codes concerning certain issues and dialogue because this show was aired during family hour during the mid 1970s in America.
Coincidentally both these actresses would go on to play Jason Bateman's mom in different tv shows during the 1980's. Caren Kaye played Jason's mom in "It's Your Move" and Valerie Harper played Jason's mom in "Valerie".😅
Don't know why Rhoda is insecure after meeting the ex-wife. She's WAY better looking than Marian. Funny, I know Valerie Harper's name, but I can't think of the name of the actress playing Marion. Joan Van Ark. Just watched the credits.
There’s a fundamental disconnect between the insecurities of a character like Rhoda, and the fact that she was played by a really good looking woman, Valerie Harper. You just have to go with it and pretend that Rhoda/Valerie isn’t beautiful.
Many beautiful women have insecurities. Many have hang ups about their looks just like regular people. All people have their problems. The emphasis on looks in society is way too important for all of us.
@@20alphabet Rhonda not a beauty queen or bikini model she had her own TV show, I was trying to be nice, mary Tyler..Moore used pretty on the dick van ike show she was a dream wife
I grew up during these MTM sit-com spinoffs. I like to look at the air dates and figure out what I was doing at the time as a fun pastime. I had just started 7th grade when this aired. I was probably doing homework when it showed, pre-algebra.
Lovely to see this. I used to love Rhoda and the show Valerie did with Mary Tyler Moore. She will be sadly missed, seems like a lovely lady. The show has aged well. TFS
Rhoda is just as gorgeous as Marion, Joe one lucky guy...only now luckier with Rhoda, yup...much better match, Rhoda's more relaxed than his ex, I can see Marion driving Joe right up the wall
