"that would have made bad things happen" lol This and the PHiZZ units are great, I love modular origami and its good to be able to make something that looks nice with out every piece being real complex. Good job, thanks for the videos.
dang now I have two projects to do after all my class work is finished. I never actually created a finished Rhombicuboctahedron, although you could probably consider the 6-piece "Modular ball" made of pleated modules such a shape, but nothing this complex. Thanks so much, this is awesome!
guys u gotta use paper with a decent amount of structure for this. i used paper that's a lil waxy and soft. it didn't retain the creases so well, so during assembly it turned really messy. the whole thing turned spherical and the triangles were impossible to form.
Edward, I've never tried making this from Elephant Hide paper, but the lock is pretty strong and it should work. Are you sure that you're doing the lock correctly? In particular, the steps starting at 7:26 in the video, where you wrap the paper at the end of one unit around with the paper from another unit. Doing that and then reinforcing the main creases of the unit should form a solid lock.
I think I'm going to try folding it again, the locks were correct as far as I can remember, but practise makes perfect :) Sorry I didn't see your reply sooner.
so if you have 3 colors and there are 24 moduels, does that mean that 8 of each color? just checking, I'm thinking about making it, btw, Great video Tom!
@Wateenlangenaamhea About half-way through the video, I show how to lock them together. Look at it carefully and pause it a lot to figure out to do it to your units.
Making the units is really easy, I tried making this model using Elephant Hide paper and couldn't get any of it to hold together so I gave up :( Maybe I should try with ordinary printer paper?
Mates, start with the triangles, they are hard as hell but, its harder at the finish. I started stupidly with easyest and now i need to glue em a bit(the last ones). But it looks nice even just in white :D
