The Olympia 2 was a classic glider of the 1940's and 1950's, its roots came from the pre war German DFS Meise, that was designed for the 1940 Helsinki Olympics that never happened.
After the end of World War II glider production resumed using many pre-war war designs improved for post-war use. The Elliots of Newbury Olympia 2 was one such glider, originally designed by Hans Jacobs the Olympia was way ahead of the rest in terms of its flying characteristics and beautifully harmonised controls.
This example was donated to the Gliding Heritage Centre by Mike Gagg and is seen making its first test flight after having the fabric on its wings replaced by Gliding Heritage Centre volunteers lead by the pilot Gary Pullen.
The glider has been christened 'Rhubarb and Custord' in honour of its Red fuselage and deep yellow wings.
