I’m growing rhubarb this year and I have to say this video has got me super excited to start harvesting and finding ways to use it 😊

Thank you for the informative and entertaining video ! All very good advise to growing the versatile Rhubarb ! If i can add two things. When harvesting, if the leaf is left on or even a palm size portion of the leaf the stalk will sit well for a day or two kept in the shade. And if rhubarb is left in water too long it will curl and split into three or four curly portions so be sure to process it as soon as can be. I learned that i need to add some clay to my sandy soil and thank you so much !

Love rhubarb! When out of straws, another option, dip ziplock bag in a bowl/sink with water, instant vacuum sealed. BTW just have to say again your videos are the BEST!

Hello. Thank you so much for the comprehensive video. I love the variety of rhubarb you are growing in the garden. May I ask what variety it is and if you would consider selling a divsion? I live in Maryland, USA.
@EverythingHomemadewithRita
@EverythingHomemadewithRita 3 года назад
Glad you loved the video. I would so sell a division but I can't send any plant material of any kind across the border. I am in Canada. I have no idea the variety. Only know that it is about 90 years old and delicious. It came from the original owner. She passed away and we got some roots. She had it in yard her entire life.

Thank you, so I guess growing them in San Antonio, TX would be out of the question? LOL Rhubarb is worth it's weight in gold at the grocery stores here (at the few that have any). Too bad it probably isn't practical for you to ship. I grew up in Brunswick, ME where my grandmother grew rhubarb. Us grandchildren ran around in the spring with a shot glass full of sugar and a stalk of rhubarb.
@EverythingHomemadewithRita

My kids run around with the fresh stalks and eat with out sugar! They love it.

@EverythingHomemadewithRita
@EverythingHomemadewithRita 2 года назад
It's ready to harvest when when the stalks are a couple feet tall and as thick as your baby finger all the way to the thickness of your thumb.

I have Rhubarb growing , i took some of the stem, now what shall i do if the flowers has bloomed, cut it out.
@EverythingHomemadewithRita
@EverythingHomemadewithRita 3 года назад
Just cut off the flower stems at the bottom. Some varieties bloom several times with multiple blossoms while others just shoot off on blossom, either way just cut them off.

I have never seen Rhubarb like yours, sooooo deep red from leaf to crown. do you know what variety it is?
@EverythingHomemadewithRita
@EverythingHomemadewithRita 3 года назад
I actually have no idea. The rhubarb came from a property of an elderly lady that passed away. My friend dug up some roots of and planted them at her place. A few years later, she gave me some roots and it is the best tasting ever. All i can say is that it is a very old variety and the lady had it on her property for many many years.

When is the best time of year to split rhubarb?
@EverythingHomemadewithRita
@EverythingHomemadewithRita 3 года назад
Spring befor they wake up or late fall when they have died back and went dormant for the winter. Rhubarb is very hardy. I have split it in the middle of the summer just because we were moving and I wanted to take some roots with me. It had no problem coming back from a summer splitting the following year!

Cutting down trees without replanting is deforestation. It is not sustainable in the long run. Think about your kids who will inherit your property eventually. It takes more than 30 years to grow a good sized tree.
