Jerry Watkins You'll enjoy this BBC series Jerry, unfortunately only 2 episodes left ...www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03j5cf8/cold-war-hot-jets-episode-2
+Jerry Watkins From a Brit to my Yank friends ,thank you, however , compliment returned you have made some incredible planes, pushing all the boundaries to their limit, not all beautiful, but very spectacular, some are both beautiful and spectacular as well.
***** Well be that as it may the fact that everyone who can afford them and is able to buy them IS buying them tells the tale. China didn't try to steal Eurofighter plans or Rafale plans or any other 4.5 gen aircraft plans.
I was blessed to see these fly on a couple of occasions in the mid-1960's, when Milwaukee had meaningful airshows. The RAF usually sent one, as well as a "Victor;" unfortunately, I never saw the Victor fly, but the Vulcan was unforgettable!
I love how this plane is an antique, but instead of hanging it in a museum somewhere it's flown to show people how incredible it is. God I love this plane!
My Dad died this year 21/08/21 of Dementia, He was an electrical engineer in the RAF and fitted the wiring and Radar on Vulcan Bombers. I love watching The Vulcan fly it's powerful but also graceful, Amazing...like my Dad.
I am sorry to hear of you dad having dementia my mum died in 2019 and had signs of that too! May I offer you my condolences to a fabulous group of folk in the RAF who were prepared to do there bit for England! R.I.P to those who are not here now and thank you to those that did there bit in WWII sigh! Like my mum!
I saw it on its final Northern tour and there were many (including me) smiling through the tears as we saw it disappear for the last time, knowing we'd never see it flying again. I feel sorry for those who will never see and hear this wonderful plane in the air.
Gosh darn I am so happy to see that Vulcan flying still. It makes me proud of its service and im a American. Just love this one ever since THUNDERBALL.
What a magnificent aeroplane. XH558 must be the only aircraft I know of that evokes the same kind of emotion among aircraft enthusiasts that perhaps 4472 (Flying Scotsman) does for locomotive enthusiasts.
@@lukemaney645 seen the B1,B52 and the vulcan many times at air shows. I find the B52 a little boring because it's so cumbersome. The B1 looks great and makes a lot of noise, but the vulcan is a showstopper because of its looks, the noise it makes and most of all, it handles like a fighter, doing a tight display almost within the confines of the airfield. My all-time favourite aircraft at airshows. Sadly we'll never see one in the air again 😔
+Leigh Eastham They are still convinced that found it first which of course they did not and that its up for grabs along with our oil interests over their.
In the summer of 1967, we met a British Vulcan crew at Guam. They invited us out to the runway the next morning to view their max performance takeoff. She accelerated with her trademark scream, reached the perigee of runway 06R and lifted off, going 90 degrees nose-up and disappearing in short order. Later that year, we were delayed taking off from Kadena AFB as the SR-71 taxied by and performed an equally spectacular takeoff. Memories of days that will never come again.
Thanks for the video! It is nice that she'll live on in clips like this, but unfortunate that future generations will never feel the ground literally shake beneath them as she flies over with a deafening and awe inspiring howl. For all the rubbish the government spend our tax money on, keeping this lady flying is something I'd happily contribute to.
bar the SR71 i think this is the most beautiful machine to ever grace the skies. just looks sensational. this is an excellent video some quality footage!
Looking back, for me it was such a privilege to have seen XH558 at RIAT and no matter what audio setup you have, that sound can NEVER be reproduced! A most awesome, amazing aeroplane!
I remember seeing this at an air show, the sound is insane in person, you can feel the rumble in your chest, it completely envelopes you. Beautiful piece of engineering - regardless of your opinion as to its purpose, I'm sure most can appreciate that.
Most beautiful aeroplane ever iconic and took care of the job in the Falkland conflict showing people we weren't a spent force,, great show case for the country's engineering prowess,,,
Wonderful, wonderful footage. Sad that she's being retired but glad as well, because she's earned the rest. We don't want to see her go the same way as that Hawker Hunter did at Shoreham.
One of the true icons of aviation. Love to see them fly again, though that seems unlikely. The Queen should order that the RAF should operate a living museum squadron, maintaining not less than one flightworthy example of every retired RAF aircraft type that still exists. An example that DOES fly on limited occasion.
Thanks for sharing this, excellent footage! When I was a kid the Vulcan was a frequent visitor to the CNE Airshow here in Canada. Always enjoyed seeing it.
If you listen closely over the sound of the Vulcan Howl you’ll also hear the symphony of the Vulcan Shutter Release - a clattering, post-war phenomenon as yet unexplained by engineers.
It's not often you can say you have a true regret in life. One of my first will be not seeing the last Vulcan fly in the last season.. What a performance, I remember seeing her airbourne in 2010 at Fairford.
I see her most weekends leaving Doncaster for displays and on the odd occasion we get a mini display on her return and I never fail to be impressed by such an awesome aircraft. This display was magnificent and very well shot........many thanks for uploading it..........
Wow! That was magnificent, thanks for sharing this wonderful video with us! I'm Canadian, & see a LOT of our 'Arrow' in the Vulcan. 'Thunderball' was the first time that I saw this giant beauty, and ever since then I relish the opportunities to see new videos of the Vulcan. Thanks!
From our Country we thank you for your help with the Mosquito and my late farther who was in the Fleet Airarm in WW2 would have thanked you, he always remarked that it was an outstanding aircraft and a forgiving one at that. He also flew with Canadians and Polish Airmen, and was proud to have made good long term friends of several of them. Thanks for the film footage it will be viewed by a lot of people who will know of the Canadian help and lives given in WW2. We as a country thank you all. John Hodgson.Subscriber, liker and commenter
Wow!!! amazing take off! The Vulcan is truthful a flying legend, and a icon of british aviation industry! also great commentary by Sean Maffet ( have met him 2009, when the Vulcan was at Sanicole, Belgium). Very sad that this will be the final season of the great old lady:-(( When my name were Richard Branson I would spend the money to bring back the Vulcan to the Sky ( unfortunately, it isn't a Concorde;-) SAVE THE VULCAN!
Was fortunate enough to see this magnificent bird on Saturday 22nd August. Sitting in my bungalow I suddenly heard the thunder of jet engines and rushed outside in time to see the Mighty Vulcan flying right over my head. What a privilege and what a noise - magnificent!
There was an annual Summer Air Show my Family and myself went to in Canada every year from 1968 until 1977 that had this Aircraft doing take off, flying display and landing. The organizers had this Aircraft every year on the Air Show schedule. This Aircraft literally shook your guts and gave an energy sound sensation buzz jolt I impossible to justly describe in words. Never disappointed at the Air Shows.
I saw a Vulcan at an airshow in Australia in the 60s, Laverton if i remember correctly; this magnificent plane left a life long impression, it is sad to see the last one finally retiring. Thanks for posting the video of what was the most stunning plane ever constructed.
Absolutely awesome , thank you for sharing , I saw it at Shutleworh a couple of months ago and was told then that it would be retied in September , such a shame as far as I am concerned :(
Amazing. My dad and brother went there yesterday. We live in Swindon. I've been to RIAT about twice in my life. I wish I could go more often as well but I really can't handle the amount of noise which is a shame. My brother is in the RAF himself and staioned at Brize Norton so he' probably gotten used to all the noise over the years. Nice footage.
Wow! That was awesome. Great video, great aircraft. She flys like a fighter. For such a big bird to maneuver like that is simply amazing. Thanks for posting.
Distinctive shape, like Rodan, the Japanese kaiju, a very distinctive roar from its engine, and a battle-worthy flying machine in every sense of the word. Just beautiful!
Excellent video of one of the most magnificent jets ever. I got to see it demo'd in the U.S. back in 1979 at SAC headquarters, Offut AFB. It was a bit more aggressive demo at that time. Glad I at least got to see it once.
Im proud to say my late brother was a Vulcan Navigator. He was part of the Squadron all H bomb loaded up and ready to go on a one way mission to Moscow during the Cuban missile crisis. He was also on the specially equipped Squadron of all white Vulcans that flew into the radioactive dust collecting samples after dropping the H bomb during testing on an Australian atol.
Thank goodness it's safely on the ground again! Neither Chuck Yeager, not Capt James Bigglesworth would have turned so sharply whilst climbing from a take-off. Yes, Chuck would have made-sure that all duty and standby fuel pumps were working; and Biggles would have made sure that none of his sparking-plugs were 'whiskered'; but they still wouldn't have done that manoeuvre.
I used to love seeing Vulcans at air shows in the early 80's. One of the loudest aircraft I've ever had the pleasure of watching. What a show! It'll be a very sad day indeed when she finally lands for the last time :-(
Maybe, if they made another one, using wood, they could keep it flying for our pleasure. These metal aeroplanes are always going to have a limited flying time. Surely the time has come to avoid a disaster, which must come eventually, if we keep on as we are doing. As for that take-off... Well, James Bigglesworth wouldn't have done a climbing turn straight from a take-off and I don't think Chuck Yeager would have recommended it either. They had both seen what can happen, if there's an engine failure. We have enough video footage now. Time to admire the Vulcan on the ground.
i think i can my friend im sitting here crying as i watch this so ill try my best its very hard to explain unless you have actually seen heard or felt a vulcan takeoff next to you on takeoff you could actually feel the power through the ground it vibrates your full body when its rolling down the runway and the howl she makes is unbelievable in person videos dont do the noise justice its deafening it feels like its howling at you or trying to talk to you when she howls. her last display at this airshow i have never seen as many grown men/women crying very sad i still get emotional and 90% of the time start crying watching videos of her its like losing a old friend. im just back from this years airshow at riat and it will probably be my last no other aircraft will ever be able to be as awe inspiring as the vulcan i seen alot of people covering their ears when the eurofighter typhoons were taking off and i started laughing it was horrendously quiet compared to the vulcan you could be miles away and if the vulcan was flying over you could tell she was coming the noise of a typhoon compared to the vulcan would be like a rolls royce accelerating compared to a rocket launch.
What a brute. Awesome. And BRITISH!! That take off is something you'll never see from a B52. A huge dark bat, bringing death, destruction and a nuclear Armageddon. Eerily beautiful and terrifying. From the days when we really were the best.
Thomas Richard Wyatt Taylor. 47 Squadron born 1918. 37 years RAF got these in flight during the Cold War. Time frame, if I remember correctly to have 3 Vulcans airborne within a couple of hours of nuclear threat. He also made the Berlin airlift happen. Operational excellence from my grandfather
I still remember seeing the Vulcan fly at the Chicago Air and Water show way back in the late 70s. All they did was low level fly bys and nothing as spectacular as this display. Sadly in 1978 Vulcan XL390 from 617 Sqn. crashed during a display at the now closed Glenview NAS which ended Vulcans flying in the States.
Deal with it whoever.War sucks. You hurt us we hurt you.We hurt you, you hurt us.Nice if civilians were not involved! Sad that soldiers and pilots need to be involved.War sucks and what for.Still love the Vulcan and any British Cold war Jet.Lightning,Victor etc.Love to all who sees this.I am not your usual waffler or am I. Please advise.
Fuck I'm so dissapointed I didn't go there. I am Finnish I live near Turku and my brother lives in Turku so it was really close and it was on my birthday...
They weren't messing about, when they built this. An wonderful aircraft in so many ways. The comment "Only 11yrs between the Lancaster and Vulcan" is truly amazing.
