Ribbons capture more than their "before processing" often reveals - so coming from that starting point, I like the Royer better, as it sounds more natural. It really comes alive with a little EQ and compression without sounding harsh/brittle. To each their own though.
On a lot of sources I feel like the N22 sounds a bit too hyped. If you don't approach this comparison too analytically you might find out that the R10 is just more enjoyable to listen to.
I prefer the Royer. While it sounded a little darker on the acoustic you can simply turn it around and use the back side for a brighter tone. The Royer on the amp sounded great.
Thanks for the comparison, nice all around. In your opinion, did you really need the cloudlifter with such a nice preamp? I don't have much experience with in-line boosters but i have used a grace m801 and never questioned it's power with coles or beyer ribbons. I currently do mostly remotes with a sound devices 633 and it drives my coles fine.
