Ric Flair Tells Harley Race Bar Fight Story Learn More about The Hannibal TV: www.thehannibaltv.com/ Follow on Facebook, RU-vid Instagram & Twitter @TheHannibalTV
I trained at the Harley Race Wrestling Academy in Eldon, Missouri for a short time in early 2000. It was a great honor to meet Mr.Race. What really made an impression on me was when Harley learned that I had served in the U.S. Army and am a veteran of Desert Storm. We were sitting in his office talking. He got up out of his chair and walked over to me and extended his hand. He thanked me for my service and sacrifice. A childhood hero wanted to shake my hand and thank me!!! It's hard to tell that story with getting a little teary eyed.
Met Harley Race a few years ago at his school. He invited me into his office and we talked for well over an hour . Smoked cigarettes and drank coffee. They say you shouldn't meet your hero's because they never live up . He was pure class !! Showed me the outline of the plate in his arm as well as his head . He had that put in after that same car accident . So glad I finally got to meet and get to know him . The GREATEST ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH !! Bar none
And It's no wonder why he was among the most legit badasses in the ring, among the toughest of the whole bunch. He used those plates to his great advantage. Even Andre the Giant was scared of him. But, despite that, I read that he was a registered gun owner and he carried a gun while on the road travelling from one territory to the next.
I consider ric the best because in my eyes hes an extension of Harley and the the other old guys he kept it going for decades hes carried the torch for those boys and did them proud.
I grew up outside of Kansas City. Had the pleasure to watch his entire career from matches at memorial hall as Central States champion, to pinning Funk Jr. for his first title reign. God Bless the greatest wrestler on God's green Earth!
I lived in St Louis in 1971-72, seen him wrestle @ a tv taping.PakSon,Orton Sr, Bobo Brazil were wrestling on the show too.As Gordon Solely would say " All man & a yard wide!"
Nash tells a great story of driving with Harley, and they get pulled over by a cop for speeding. Harley cuts a promo on the cop, which ends up with the cop giving them a police escort to the matches…but Harley ends up outrunning the escort!
If you watched WWF Harley you "might" think it was a good idea to pick a fight in a bar with him. BUT, if you EVER saw Race in the NWA or any other promotion you'd think twice or even three times about messing with him.
Harley Race slammed Andre outside the ring one match and Andre was f'd up he laid on the ground for almost 5 minutes his back was hurting, huge respect for HR.
I live in St. Louis and back in the day, these guys would hang out at the bars on Laclede's landing after the Saturday night shows at Kiel. You would be amazed at how many idiots try to pick fights with these guys.
Handsome Harley did so fine. I did chuckle when he tangled with Ron Etchison on TV in his early days. Ron wore Harley out in roughly 8 minutes. Jack Donvan was a strong supporter of Handsome Harley. This was roughly July 1967. Harley kept moving forward to win that world title. Unmatchable Harley rides again. Mr. Kansas City in my book.
The greatest part about that story is the reverence that Naitch has for HR. The way I hear it in the story, Naitch may be "the man" but Race was a God among men.
I have read in multiple interviews that Andre said there were only TWO people that he was afraid of, Harley Race and Meng. Flair said in another interview that Blackjack Mulligan likes to test other wrestlers to see how tough they were. In a hotel room, he cheap shotted Harley, was pounding on him in between to beds, would let Harley get up, but Jack punched himself tired, and his hand eas all banged up and Harley got up didn't say a word. Ric, Harley, Jack and Wahoo McDaniel were all driving to the next town together and Ric was afrainf there was going to be a brawl between the two of them and Wahoo was like "don't worry about it". They all got in the car together, a word wasn't said and Jack never tested Harley again. I had also read the metal rod in his left arm was why Harley rarely threw elbows or forearms after the auto accident, but he did save it for legit fights.
My father followed wrestling in the 80s and he said that Ravishing Rick Rude and Bad News Brown were two wrestlers that you didn't want to fight in real life. Don't know how true that is, but that's what he said.
I just googled Bad News Brown and he was an Olympic Bronze Medalist in Judo. Maybe I should apologize to my father after laughing at him for saying that.
Race would always be carrying a gun on him back in his prime that's why and Andre was scared of haku like 90% of the guy's on the roster for obvious reasons

Your worst nightmare....pissing off the owners of a coffee shop. The assistant calls for the managers out from the back.....out walk Harley & Haku. F*ck that 😂
I like the ketchup story from marty jannety he said him and race were eating at waffle house or somewhere after a match one night and a guy kept calling them fakes and said it isnt real blood when they bleed so harley picked up a heinz glass ketchup bottle and hit the guy over the head with it and busted him open and said now your in the wrestling buisness daddy😂😂😂😂
Here’s the thing for me. Ric Flair maybe not the greatest or most talented or whatever but if I had to put a picture, in the dictionary showing what a wrestler was. Of all the wrestlers to choose from, I’d have a picture of Ric.
I don't know about being the GOAT but if a company keeps you as their champion for damn near 8 years there's a reason. GOD knows how much money Sammartino made Vince McMahon Sr. Hogan Flair and Stone Cold Steve Austin were all huge stars in wrestling but could they sell out the old MSG every single week for years? Sammartino's almost 8 year long reign as champion will NEVER be beaten. Modern wrestling fans (from the Hulkamania era forward) want the championship bouncing between flavors of the month.
Can you imagine all the WWF wrestlers like cane undertaker Andre the Giant the Big show triple h hulk Hogan Georgia animal Steele Bill Goldberg Stone Cold Steve Austin and all them others getting in a fist fight in a bar room they'd have the police mighty busy they tear that place apart woo
Can, you imagine being one of the guys that Harley Race ass whopped watching this video. Telling his wife. "Hey honey see I told you that was Harley Race that busted my face all to $hit"
