I sing & play guitar. I used to want to be a star. I put things up on YT still today, but My heart isn't in it like it used to be. EVERY VIDEO ON YT has some kind of music in it, tho it seems. Kills me. lol
This was a perfectly set up promo. Solie and Rich putting over Race and leaving Flair out of the conversation and Nature Boy can’t handle it. Comes out jawing at Rich and Rich gives it back to him. Further pissing off Flair and setting him on fire. In the end it perfectly set up the Flair/Race title match. After seeing this promo, who wouldn’t want to see that match?
After Tommy "Wildfire" Rich got done telling "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair off like that...I declare...I ain't never seen "Slick" Ric stand there like that before! He looked like somebody done swatted him upside the head with a fryin' pan, or something...and left him standin' there, speechless! He looked absolutely STUNNED, for a little bit, until he kinda came to his senses, and began talkin' again! Then again, forget the word "Talkin". He was shoutin' and screamin', almost, like it was goin' out of style!!! This was a Masterpiece of a promo!
Just look at him!!! How can you not watch this video and realize what a beautiful man Tommy Rich is. How handsome, his voice, his confident demeanor, his ability to whoop some tail and that accent. I've watched him since I was a little girl with my great aunt. She would cuss the tv if anyone was getting the best of Tommy "Wildfire" Rich. She loved him, what a great memory of her I still cherish. Him and Brett Hart will always be two of my favorite wrestlers.
I used to have the biggest crush on Tommy Rich when I was a teenager. Haha..! 😁😄 When he would go wrestling in Athens GA. at the J&J center, he would have to pass my house to get there. I used to dream that he would run out of gas in front of my house. 😄😄😄 That was so silly. I did see him once at the J&J center in Athens. I saved all of my wrestling magazines and my wrestling programs from when my family and I would go to the wrestling matches. I still have several autographs from different wrestlers. I would get my cousin's to come over and watch wrestling with me. We'd watch it for an hour on Saturday evening and 30 min. on Sunday. That was back in the early to mid 80's. Loved it!!
Tommy's voice sounded soo much different back then to what he sounded like just 10 years later. Have to wonder if he became addicted to gargling with sawdust back in the late 80s or something.
Amen! This was definitely real! Imagine that-"The Nature Boy", gettin' told off by "The Wildfire"! I love it! Ric's standing there, listening to Tommy...and Ric looks like his jaw's about to hit the floor! After Tommy Rich leaves, you can see, and feel, the shock on Ric's face! It's real! When Tommy Rich said what he did, respecting Harley Race like that, Ric's standing there, almost completely motionless. He's in shock! If you see what I saw, it takes 5-10 seconds for Ric to regain his composure, think of something to say, and get back on track! It's the one and only time, that I ever saw that happen to Ric Flair! By the way...😁😁😁😁....I love it!
Quietly, Tommy Rich was one of the best workers in the game. He never ventured out of the south but I'll put his in ring performances against any of the all-time greats.
Tommy was real. Just a "wild eyed southern boy". F authority. F the law. That's what made him so enduring. He wasn't a "character". It was really him through and through.
Rich was never in Flair's league. He and Buzz Sawyer had no business ever being anywhere near Flair in the ring or on a promo. Rich was just a dumb ass hillbilly with no game at all.
@@jedsteelwell2354 Back then a wrestler didn't need to have a great looking body to be a star..Maybe in the WWF but not anywhere else...Look at Dusty Rhodes.
That's true, but Ric Flair was the force in the NWA. Using Race in his argument was the thing that would get him over on Ric Flair, at least for a short while. I don't think Tommy "forgot" about 1980, but the realities of 1982 had to be addressed.
He was definitely a legend in the south. I often wonder, if given the chance if he would have been able to approach that same star status in the Mid-West, Texas, or on the East coast.
I remember visiting my grandparents and they had better cable than we did and I would love watching this stuff. But, I never did quite like Tommy Rich. Ha.
@@natehaydenqb306 You & I will have to fight about that one. 😆 😆 They didn't call Solie "The Dean of Announcers," for nothing! I'll give you this though, ANY of the so-called old-school announcers back in the day, were better than the wanna be comedians that's out there now.
I got a chance to meet Tommy Wildfire Rich a few times when he was in WCW Wrestling. He had personal feelings for me and wanted to be a part of my life, but I was to stupid and in love with someone else and they didn't love me or want me like he did. I actually got to touch his hair, hug and kiss him and have a wonderful conversation with him. Damn I wish now that I would have chosen to be with Tommy Wildfire Rich!! He was such a sweetheart with a sexy voice and just drop dead gorgeous 🥰😍😍😍😍😍😍🥰🥰
Pretty pathetic, isn't it? All of that charisma, and strength...and only held onto that particular Title for four days...... How much worse can someone's career be?
You guys are all dumb. The man held the NWA world's heavy weight title. You know, the most prestigious title in wrestling.. period. If he'd held it for 2 minutes it'd still be a greater achievement than you've ever had I'm sure.
Heres an unrelated question for anyone ... now that The NWA title is being considered a major belt again should the NWA seek to get Brock Lesnar away from WWE ? I always thought Lesnar was better served in a promotion that prides itself on believeable wrestling . Lesnar is the closest thing to Harley Race meets the modern era I have ever seen . Would you watch NWA if Lesnar was their kingpin ?
WELL I CAN TELL YOU. LOUISVILLE GARDENS 1983. THE WRESTLING LEGENDS WOULD GO RIGHT OUT INTO MOHAMED ALI BOULEVARD STREET. THE DRUNKS WOULD FIGHT RIGHT IN THE PARKING LOT 🛑✝️
Harley Race might not have been a flashy product but he was something Ric Flair never was , believeable . Flairs whole drawing ability was that he could lose that belt at any time . Race's drawing ability was as the unbeatable heel tough guy . I cringed at the Starcade narrative that had Harley Race using hired flunkies to take out Ric Flair , that Race feared Flair . I never believed it be ause it was too hard to believe . It had go away heat from me . I knew they were trying to convince people that Ric Flair was better than Race because they needed a successor for Race . I got that . I agreed that Harley Race was looking worn about the edges and older than he truly was . I agreed that it was time to pass the baton . The bad news was that Ric Flair was figured in yo being that guy . He never had that air of invincibility that Race had and there should never have been any angle in which Race feared losing to Ric Flair . Since flairs gimick was that he had to cheat to win then thats how he should have beaten Harley Race . That would have made sense .
That's not how it was. Ric flair was a flashy babyface back in the day. He would act like Hogan and do poses after few moves. He would show showmanship. He would also be an underdog babyface at times. Flair turned heel when he was a champion because NWA did not have a lot of heels for Flair. NWA typically had many babyfaces, so Flair had to be heel to draw heat. So his gimmick was I'm the dirtiest player in the game and he boasted and cheated and won.
I agree 100%. In my humble opinion, a world champion, whether you present him as a heel or a babyface, should have a "me against the world attitude." Don't get me wrong! Flair was great but , in my opinion, his character spent too much time trying to convince the audience that he was great, instead of just going out kicking ass & not not giving a damn like Race. Race's demeanor & promos commanded respect. When you saw race, he had world champion written all over him. No other world champion, in ANY territory, at least in my lifetime, has EVER come close to Race.
@@mds56358 I've watched Flair well before they put the strap on him. While I do remember him posing for the crowd, I don't ever recall him being a pure babyface. I'm saying you're wrong. I just don't recall it.
@@knowtheledge1930 You are right. Flair was a heel for most part of his career. But in the late 70s, he was a charismatic babyface. Even in the early 80s till 83 he had a few babyface runs here and there. But it's true that flair was not a long term babyface like Ricky Steamboat or Sting.
At this point in time, thr one cat who was iving a lifestyle that WHOOOAAA could not 😂 dare dream to equal was Mr.Karate man DLR....translation David Lee Roth
Tommy would of been good as a challenger for the belt. I don't see him as a world champ. Race let him win cause Race was drunk and he was suppose to win that match that night so nwa thought tommy would be good as an world champ for 5 days then nwa decided to put the belt on race again. Tommy was just good as an mid card champ
