The almost Cars Song. Ben Orr did backing vocals. Elliot Easton did the guitar. Greg Hawkes did the keyboards. Only David Robinson was missing. Very simple drum beat in this song as a result. Sounds like a Cars song for a reason - 80% of the band was on this song on the album.
One of Ric's best songs !!. I could listen to this song forever and not get tired of it. Glad to see him and the guys back together. True talent that makes the world a better place because of their "Music". R.I.P. Ben.
i had to give this song a listen after reading about it on wikipedia. featuring 4 of the 5 Cars members, its about as close to a genuine Cars song as it gets.
Ric's final doodles included "Keep on Laughin'" - awesome lead song on This Side of Paradise - Ric passed on 33rd anniversary of the album release. This song (maybe for Paulina) was 2nd & 3rd was Emotion in Motion--awesome triple> - this song has Greg Hawkes, Ben Orr & Elliot Easton (misses David Robinson only). Ric Otcasek, singer, songwriter, guitarist, poet, producer, painter, husband, father, Hall of Famer... RIP

@JPMcFly1985 4 of the 5 Cars members are playing/singing on this track. Elliot Easton on lead guitar, Greg Hawkes is actually playing bass, and Ben Orr is singing background vocals. That's probably why it has that Cars sounding quality to it. Awesome song!
Ric fue un poeta musical, como lo es Simon Le Bon. Ambos tienen estilo, además de ser iconos del new wave. Q.E.P.D. Ric Ocasek, un símbolo de la música de los '80.
I remember this song and also "Something to Grab For" on Beatitude both got a decent amount air time in the late 80's - both a must for Cars collections IMHO.
Great song with a creative & memorable music video. The Cars and each of the band's talented members always had that knack of pleasing the fans. It's great to hear the late Benjamin Orr on backing vocals along with Elliot Easton and Greg Hawkes contributing making this a very near to The Cars song for sure!!!
my mum bought this side of paradise for me. i didn't like it at first. but after a few plays i got into it. 40 years later still 1 of my 2 fav albums ever. steve stevens great guitar.
@@redskies4530 Hi there Red Skies,...Wow,..That`s a interresting song,..I never heard of that person or song,..Is that a new song and band,...Its OK,....I guess I have to get used of that song,...Thanks
@@mikezollo7417 Glad you liked the recommendation,he has the entire 'looking into the mirror' album up on both youtube and spotify I noticed.Hope you have a great rest of the week.
This is kind of videos which I like the best. Ric is fantastic , I only wish he had played it live , especially with Ben and Elliot and Greg on stage !!!!!!!
I have always missed for Ben when listening to backing vocals to this song . Wonderful Elliot , but it shouldnt surpise us, does it? I' am devastated by Rick`s loss , too. It`s such unbelievable not to see him again.
Been my favorite band since the late 70s when their first album came out. I love the allbum the had before that called milkwood.. They were my top band no matter how many bands that i loved.. There is none like them or made me so happy.. Their sound was what got me sound of the 80s so unique
@@Ocasek77 Those 2 are great & so are Just What I Needed & Bye, Bye Love. I Got A Lot on My Head & Take What You Want are 2 of the best of the BEST Elliot Easton guitar playing & 2 of my top 10 favorite Cars tunes !
@@lightyears717 The Cars and XTC are all I listened for a long time.. I think I've heard them enough.. This is my opinion, you don't have to agree... 13 people DO agree with me though.
@@32INCHSTRIPER It's a GREAT solo because it's one of his simplest, non bluesy, not very intricate. But it comes in, gets the job done WELL (kinda like the Touch and Go solo in that respect) and then goes away leaving you satisfied. Kinda like Greg Hawkes occasional line of Casio CZ101 square wave lines in this song, especially. Sometimes, less truly IS MORE!

On Emotion in Motion both Orr and Hawkes were on that song as well. It is why they are his best works - he had most of the Cars band helping him on these two tracks!
I remember first hearing only PART of this song-the ending, "....true to you...I'm true to you..!" And NEVER forgot it, never knew who did it, etc..this was about '83-84 or so...never forgot it, and now here it is!!! 🙏👍😄☺😍
@JPMcFly1985 The reason this track sounds so much like a Cars song is because it features all the members of the Cars, except for David Robinson, the drummer.
Unfortunately, no. They separated this year. I think the age difference now (she is in her 50s, he is in his 70s) made it not possible anymore. people.com/music/the-cars-ric-ocasek-wife-paulina-porizkova-split-28-years-marriage/
@leslijones4443 I just read my original comment. 12 years later, they divorced, he supposedly left her and their kid with nothing when he passed. Bittersweet.
