Rice Pudding is made in many households throughout India, especially on special occasions and festivals. Rice is cooked in milk and simmered for long time to get pudding like texture. In this recipe you don’t see any condensed milk to thicken the kheer, rather milk is cooked for long time to get the perfect consistency and texture. Rice Kheer is topped with nuts that adds to a wonderful crunch and flavor to the kheer.

I have been chasing this recipe for ten years! I do not exaggerate. I had it once in an Indian Restament and fell in love with the light...delicate taste and texture of the rice ... the subtle sweetness and the crunchiness of the nuts. I wasn't bold enough to ask for the recipe and so tried to recreate it on my own. It was disastrous. So glad I found you. From what I remember this resembles what I ate.I. look forward to trying it out.

Yes i had it about 10 yrs back in a restaurant in Hampton Court and want to make it now. Not so sure about all the sugar though...i guess you can add more for taste after.

Not Indian, but I love Indian food! I’ve learned how to make some Indian dishes. I’m a foodie. I fell in love with Kneer and Gulab Jamun. Tried to make gulab jamun, but it was hard on the inside 😕. Will try again. Thank you for this recipe. I will try it. I’m Mexican and we make Arroz con Leche, a rice pudding dessert. So I’m hoping I will have a better chance of your rice recipe coming out better.

honestly, not to be biased against other cultural cooking, and theres soo many dishes from around the world, but indina cuisine is really incredibly tasty.

This was an amazing tutorial, I was trying to follow a paper recipe with no success. You did an amazing job of explaining everything concisely without rambling. I have never cooked this dish before or worked with a milk based desert, so this was very helpful!

hi sruthi! I too love kheer. My mother uses jaggery in place of sugar and we call it paravaannam. Jaggery is added at the very end of the preparation. your recipes are simple and easy.

Hi Sruthi, this looks great! I finally made your Palakowa! I kept putting it off till my 8 year old said, " Can you stop worrying about sugar mummy? " Lol ! So I did make it. I thought it was much too sweet, but my daughter ate it like a spread on toast( like you had suggested) and loved it. So that ended well! Thanks!

Love the recipe. I double the cardamom because I love the flavor it adds. Don’t fret if it looks too watery while cooking and just after. It will thicken significantly upon standing.

Wonderful video! It seems like every culture has their own way of making rice pudding if you will. I usually make arroz con leche which is like the hispanic version. This is totally different and delicious looking! Can’t wait to try it out!🤤👍🏽

In Mauritius we first cook the rice in pressure cooker then add the milk, sugar and the dry fruits. This way also it turns good.
