Let's not forget Pete is solely responsible for making Russ one of the highest paid players in sports(put him in a position to obtain generational wealth). We saw how Russ looked first season away from Pete. We saw how Geno looked first year with Pete. This speaks volumes about Pete Carrol ..and the situation in whole volumes about Russell Wilson.

Denver traded the farm and broke the bank for Wilson out of desperation after Rodgers snubbed them and they had already hired Hackett. The new ownership knew they had to make a splash signing at QB, so they were willing to give Wilson anything he wanted as he was the only brand-name veteran available and they had to save face with the fans. They were probably hoping that the regression he was already showing in Seattle when he arrived could be magically turned around by a first-time HC. It couldn't. Classic rookie owner move. Welcome to Walmart.
@LdyVder
@LdyVder Год назад
Wilson was traded in March 2022. New ownership didn't take over until August 2022 about 3 weeks before Wilson signed his extension. The announcement they were a going to take over happened in June. The new ownership is the ones who offered Wilson all the money, but they were not the ones who traded for him thinking the regression wasn't really happening. That was the previous owners.

Seattle fans remembers Russ lying to us about not wanting to be traded when sports media got rumors that there are teams Russ would be willing to drop the no trade clause for. Turns out the one who leaked it to the press turned out to be his agent's office. He tries to play the nice guy, but he really is a two-faced diva after getting a taste of success.

My guess is that over the last few years, Wilson has been a little too concerned with the Russell Wilson BRAND as opposed to just being a great player (which he was). I suspect he has surrounded himself with sycophants and yes men who never took him to task when needed. 2020 quickly proved that NFL defenses could figure out how to turn off Russ's oven, demonstrating Pete's previous offenses were better suited for Wilson. Wilson's poor performance where he had more input pretty much just shows he needs the classical coach/qb dynamic. Oh, and it should also be noted that neither Rodgers nor Wilson have won a superbowl in almost a decade so their methods are not winning ones.

We may have to get used to stories like this. The media, and the modern NFL, worship the QB. Look at Deshawn Watson's guaranteed money. Lamar holding the franchise hostage. Their attitudes are understandable (but probably not conducive to winning ball games) and we have no one else to blame but ourselves.

I remember when players were just thrilled that they got drafted. Yes, I understand that players make the NFL, but the owners are the ones who actually make the NFL what it is and sign the player's paychecks. Those were the days when the NFL was good - it is getting really skanky and skanky nowadays. Players need to play ball and let the owners and GM's run the teams.
