Andrew Dexter For some reason I don't remember the announcement of his death and I would have been 11. I remember Bing Crosby, Sidney James,Charlie Chaplin,Lord Mountbatten but he just disappeared.Its only very much later that l learnt he had died.Man About The House and Rising Damp were huge hits.

+davina davis Yep, likely he'd still be doing it. Also, interesting to note that all the Actors he worked with who are still acting today like Frances DeLa Tour (ie Miss Jones in Rising Damp) have their own Websites, Mobile Phones etc, just like almost everyone else in the World Today. Ronnie Barker did before he died in 2005 and Beckinsale would be doing the same were he still around. He'd be Texting or Skype'ing with Kate while she's on a break during filming in the States.

MsFanmail I didn't rate him as handsome up to some young men I knew. But.I will say this... he would be alive today if it wasn't for his sister's stupidity in not realising he was to have a heart attack. If onlyhis sister had sent immediately for a doctor as soon as he said at her party that he had pains down his arms- A MAJOR SIGN OF CARDIAC ARREST ! He went up timber at her house after complaining of chest pain and pains down his arms. She did not bother sending for a doctor but if she had he would have received C.P.R. and survived.

Val O' Brien - I don't know where you got that rubbish from! Richard Beckinsale complained to many people about feeling unwell and pains in his arms in the weeks before his death - should they all have called an ambulance?! He was concerned enough to go and see a doctor, who sadly did not pick up that he had a heart defect, only slightly raised cholesterol. It was also very bad luck that the night he had his fatal heart attack he was alone in his house - his wife was in hospital having a minor procedure to help them conceive another child, and his little girl was staying with friends. Perhaps had his wife been in bed with him she could have raised the alarm. However, as it's said he died in his sleep, she may not have known until it was too late. This happened to a friend of mine, who woke up to find her 28 year old husband dead in bed next to her. I know it's a natural human reaction to want to find something or someone to blame when such a terrible tragedy as this occurs. But frankly, who could ever have thought in a million years such a happy, successful, laid back and healthy looking young man of 31 had a serious heart condition? Blame the doctor who failed to diagnose it if you will, but to blame one of his own sisters is very cruel of you. If you see this, I hope you'll have the decency to delete your earlier comment - it is very offensive and disrespectful to the Beckinsale family.

I don't think his daughter had any acting talent atall, in !y opinion she just got on the bandwagon after his death, and was not known or mentioned prior to his death.

+Norma Thomas Samantha Beckinsale was his absolute image but in beautiful female form, her eyes were exactly like his and were very warm and loving as were Richards . Kate is pretty too but she has very cold eyes she does look a bit like her dad and obviously has his acting ability, though Samantha too was a wonderful actress. It is very very sad because I am sure he would have been very proud of both his talented daughters, Gone far far too soon.

+Norma Thomas Yep, I don't understand that either. It could be because Kate is more famous, or maybe Samantha prefers to stay out of documnntaries about her Dad. Strange seeing his own Father interviewed here.

I just watched a recent tribute to Rising Damp on catch up and both daughters were on it...

Because they never say he had another daughter there was a family rift and it very sad because his other daughter is lovely

Yes you are Paul (whoever you are). Richard Beckinsale however was so funny, people still enjoy his comedy performances and have huge affection for him, 40 years after his death.
