As an RBR modder I just want to thank you for popularizing our beloved simulator through this carefully crafted video, that will surely be appreciated by many people 👍
you all doing amazing work and I am really happy that there is such an active community still, maybe we can do some more content around it with the help of the community? Still got the original box here and happy that it is "playable" because the rally school back then just made up 90% of my gameplay every day as a kid haha. - Rene
Thank you for being a modder! I am beyond impressed by the stuff I see in VR. Like yesterday I realized the modder even included a tarp to protect a garage from the gravel kicked up by the cars starting the stage!
Not mentioned: One has better chances of going three sectors in an actual group B car without crashing than beating the same courses in RBR. It's not called one of the hardest racing sims ever made for nothing. If you're a hardcore racing sim enthusiast, it's a gem.
Same problem with all sims: feedback isn't the same as irl even if the model is approaching it. So even if the simulation is great you don't have the equipment to really take advantage of it. When you're driving a group b monster, this is just exacerbated. RBR does output telemetry though, so you can cover for it. Personally have a few transducers to give me ffb on wheel slip as well as terrain hits and such.
@@omarsheriff51 it means that in order to be considered a top, top player you need to learn the mechanics of the game and pile on hours on it. There are some serious hardcore dudes on this game and I heard even some pro rally drivers play it. You can learn to keep the car on the road easily and not crash it but chances are you are going much slower than experienced players. And no its not harder than real rally wtf...
@@omarsheriff51 RBR is fairly easy, so is real life rallying... but you have to control yourself on how hard you push, most rallies are won by pacing yourself not going flat out all the time, that will end you up in a ditch! In an RBR online rally as a new driver you should not push for a win, the goal should be to finish it! If the game seems to hard, it is just you pushing past your driving skills... much like real life! This is also what makes RBR absolutely awesome!
Some other notes, there’s a soft lock feature that lets you have the correct wheel angle per car automatically and also automatic gear selection per car so you can match whenever the car is H pattern or sequential, also for the first time in RBR history most the cars now have working dials on the dashboard so you can have all your hud turned off.
Well done, great content and great video! We RBR modders are happy to contribute, compatibly with our commitments, to this great project which, for those who love rallies, represents the point of reference for simulation thanks to the precious work of WorkerBee.
No kidding about RBR, I've only finished less than 10% of my rallies as a sim racer. That should tell you how much RESTRAINT you need to have to even finish a rally in RSF's online rallies. It's as hardcore as you can get. Nobody will blame you for avoiding RBR. But, if you are looking to be knighted as a true rally master, do as she says and finish a rally in Sim Rally Masters. She's absolutely correct on that one. Don't worry about the times. Just finish. :)
I ended up taking damage off until I got more used to the game...I was crashing out every race. I am more comfortable now so will put it back to full damage.
I ordered the PC DVD of this game way back when it was released And may have my copy somewhere. I loved it a lot back then. Super happy to see it has been resurrected and modded to run with new features and on new computers!
Great video, have to mention that the game works really well with a controller. It has fantastic options for tweaking it, initially it will be awful but you can get the steering to be better than any other rally game I have played with a gamepad. So if you don't have a steering wheel, it shouldn't deter you from trying this game (you need a controller of some sort, and a device to connect it to your pc as well though).
Yup. Controller works fine with a little in-game adjustment, which I had to look into on their Discord server. Plus... There's a guy with top times who only uses a keyboard!
@@Skumtomten1 yea Ive broken my wheel about 8 months ago and got so good at keyboard driving that at some point I had a 30th time in Biskupice 2004 mind you wrc 1.6 cars are almost unplayable if you dont have a wheel
@@KvltKommando First set up the buttons, should be straight forward. I would reccommend shifting up with a and down with x on xbox controller. Then go into calibrate steering, axis. Curvature - go for 1/3 of the bar full in red. Curvature 2 - go a little more than 1/3, like 2 dots more. Maximum Fade - Go for 1/2 of the bar full (half red) Saturation Speed - A bit more than 1/3, similar to Curvature 2. Rise Rate - 5.0 Fall Rate - 8.0 Throttle and break I haven't touched.
Been getting into rally a lot lately since burning out on iracing. Been wanting to check out RBR and it’s been intimidating trying to figure out how to get this game. So thank you
Really nice video, got some memories going.. Back in 2005-2006 i was obsessed with this game. Took me months on keyboard to get good and fast times (for the time) then when i switched to steering wheel, it was another world. This is the only rally game that got me hooked for hours and months, no other rally game has made me want to race for hours nonstop. It is actually a bit sad that nobody has gotten hands on IP or dev team that made this game, and there is no sequel to this gem.
I installed RBR about a month ago. Honestly was frustrating to get everything working. But once everything was working and understood what does what as far as mods etc... The game for sure has something that other rally racers are missing. It's far from perfect as it's an old game with a lot of mods. It's the reason I decided to not get wrc. I still play Dirt rally 2...so with that and RBR I'm all set for rally games.
Hi, not sure it was mentioned already but you can have a look in the settings in the pace note editor and you can have the pace note visuals either regular popping up when you drive past the trigger, they can have distance call outs, you can have them stacked on the right hand side, you can have them projected onto the 3D world, it's quite a world of possible combos you have with the pace note editor. Just have a go.
Been sitting on the fence with this, having been an original RBR user many years back. I might just do it now. Having VR is a good thing for me as well.
Great video! I'm new to BRB, which "Slow cars" do you recommend for beginners? I'm coming from WRC and Rush Rally, but I recently switched to using a proper racing wheel so I want to ease the learning curve a bit.
I have more experience to Collin Mcrae Rallys and Dirt 2 and 3, but i love RBR with this mod with or without steering wheel plugins and setup its just that fun.
'hot minute' is an understatement. The instalation takes like 2h on top of an hour of getting the torrent files. Important thing to know if you start installing it at like 2am.
3:08 why should i own the disc as well? Since I've been on console all my life, my brain just wants to turn itself off when i hear torrent and extract stuff...
I have major problem after installation. Absolutely nothing happens, no error, nothing. I tried several different options. Uninstalled 8 or 9 times, custom installation, full instalation, The DEP settings, etc. Anyone have any ideas what to do?
@@AutomobileVR Have you put an exception in the DEP settings? If you have try disabling all the plugins to see if it works and if it does you can try enabling them again. That worked for me.
@@jekanyika I had a quick owerview of RBR with a quite quirky PS5 pad controller. I didn't proceed much in game then because I planned to play properly with a steering wheel. But no software crashes occured in that time. Then short after I downloaded Automobilista 2. I'm on that road atm. I'm planning to test RBR soon. Thank you
It keeps asking the certificate of the website is expired, do you wish to continue and it’s asking for every single file in the set up, already clicked for 100 times almost, going to give up
Do you suggest me to start “climating” with the game trying the vanilla content or should I start directly from mods? I was a tester for old VRC mods for assetto corsa but never got into rbr properly
With full damage enabled it initially felt frustrating to have what felt like as minor crash end that run. What changed my mind was watching real rally racing and how one mistake will have their cars on the sides or upside down. So keep that in mind that this is not dirt rally or wrc where you can flip your car numerous times and continue to ride. I suggest newcomers switching damage to safe mode until you get comfortable with using your clutch, starting the car after it stalls... yeees your car will stall out after a crash!
No, the installer uses the files from the torrent. In order to update the game you download a new installer file but the torrented files stay the same. The reason they had to do this is because the game got too popular and they couldn't afford the hosting fees anymore.
I've recently started playing RSF RBR and I cant complete the rally school. At the end of the basic section you need to be Richards passenger, unfortunately every time I do the lesson the game crashes as the car starts to rev, I've tried with a load of different cars and its always the same. I assume it has something to do with the mods, is this a common issue?
3:59 here is where i get stuck, because it says "There are no RSF installation packages in the selected folder. Please select the "rsf_installer_files" folder!" , eventho it is in that folder The Problem Is Now Solved
TL;DR: *The RSF mod is the way to go*, everything has a higher chance to work than going way back to the original ( I even own two copies of the cd incase the house would burn down, seriously it's my favourite game). I only play in VR and quite honestly it's more stable than DR2.0 even if it's janky when loading (makes cool menu music remixes when it lags :D). It's more stable than online DR2.0 rallies because RaceNet at Codies was run by a 486 programmed by a goldfish with dementia.
If it doesn't recognise the steering axis.. change the degrees to 180° in the wheel software, bind it ingame..and then you can change the rotation in the wheel software back to how you want it.
Is there anything that can be done for cars that don't have a hood camera? Some just have the wheel cam (which often hinders your view with the sponsor band on the top of the windshield), or the front bumper camera, which sits way too low to the ground. Is there a way to create a custom camera view?
TIP: (did'nt catch in video if it was mentioned) I had issue with detecting my CSL DD was it would not "see" my wheel. I set the steering rotation down to as low as it would go, wiggled wheel back n forth quickly and then it would recognize it. Then I set back to my desired setting. Hope this helps someone as it did me.
Regarding disk space: RBR is pretty good on disk usage. I noticed my Assetto Corsa is currently at 170 GB (with 108 track folders, but not counting ribbons), and my Dirt Rally 2.0 is at 109 GB, so RBR at 130 GB, including the 13 "red" stages (not used in online because although nice, they have issues) making a total of 508 stages, (waiting on Zlin to be included) is quite amazing. DR2 doesn't come near that number of stages, and the RBR car numbers seem somewhere around half my current Assetto car numbers. I did notice some duplicate install (mapXXX.7z) files in the root of RBR, but I just manually deleted those when I saw they were the same as those in the torrent. That 130 GB also includes all the source files in "rsf_installer_files" in the game's root (approx 30 GB) which is now the location used to avoid re-downloading existing content during updates.
@@KvltKommando Nah, 2.5 gig for the original, including a couple of small mods (dlls) to allow 16x9 fullscreen. I found a link to the original all zipped up here on youtube. The RSF full install includes NGP 7, nearly 100 cars, and over 500 stages, so much more content.
A few tips... set your clutch to go to 100 percent when it's halfway pushed in. At default the clutch only disengages with the pedal pushed almost all the way in. By setting it to half.... when you press your clutch in it will disengage at half pedal pressure. Makes a huge difference. Also if your having issues with saves not saving. Find your saved games folder... and your saved file... properties...unclick read option.... then save your settings. Then click read again. For whatever reason you have to do this anytime you make a save. Also be sure to keybind.... help with car (forgot the exact name) basically if you go off track you hold this button and fans will assist you with getting your car back on the track. To change FOV....and a few other settings....Press LEFT or RIGHT mouse click when on a rally course...or anywhere your in the car. Make sure to save any changes. Also can be done during replays,
Thank you for this, but a little shame how you only chose to show stages and cars with bad graphical quality. Show the new people a stage like Walim, Valstagna or Gabiria with a car that has a nice RBRHUD dash and internal textures, it's far more likely they would get interested in the game. Not flipping Berica from the chase cam...
I understand physics and driving are good. But having to go through so many hurdles just to setup things and playing an oudated 20yrs old game no thanks. I'll just go and play dr2 or wrc. I just want to have fun not punish myself
Trust me the initial process can be meh but once it's set up it's good to go and there's so many stages compared to Amy other rally game so you'll almost never be bored.
