Awesome... really enjoyed! and great to see the nice relationship between you both, the respect and love from the son, and the love, pride and care from the father.
Lovely to see the Father and Son bond. I don't have a Son, but my 10 year old Daughter is a real petrol-head and so we have plenty of Porsche and fast bike conversations at home. To my wife's annoyance though. 😂
It was getting close.. But that's when you see the difference between confidence and cockiness ;) Another few years and I think RT might be in trouble!
So British that @2:05 Richard tells his son: "Little bit disappointingly you've done that faster than I thought." A competitive undermining thing to say to one's son. Yes, Charlie laughs (uncomfortably) and it was one of those backhanded compliments that men have been raised to do with each other. The reason? Because if a man shows sensitivity, he is looked down on, he is thought of as less than and more on the level of a female. Sad, and yet it is changing, thank goodness.
We think it's just a fear of the changing of the guard in the Tuthill household! Perhaps Richard felt he had more time to teach Charlie, and the disappointment was how quickly he didn't need him in the car... As you say, very British! Now all Charlie wants to do, is beat the track record :)
@@jamesmac8424 It was what is called a 'backhanded compliment.' Men have had to learn to suppress their emotions; with the exception of anger, which connotes toughness; and express their emotions in a coded kind of way. For example, in the US, some construction workers will greet each other in the morning by giving them the finger. On a literal level it means: "F You" but translated from the man-code, it means: "good morning, good to see you!" Yes it is a greeting of friendliness, yet it is done in a disguised way. It appears to be tough, masculine, someone not to F with; yet it is really a caring expression in code. Why? Because men have been taught to tough it out, don't ask for help, don't cry, get it done. So, men stuff a whole lot of sadness, suffering, hurt, etc until some men drown it out with alcohol or drugs, or explode; sadly some by shooting up a school, or committing suicide. That is why men commit suicide 4 times as often as women in the US. Very sad.
