Bless his heart, what an enchanting love story. I watched the interview with his children right after he passed away & they were just lovely people. They said he had just been diagnosed with esophageal cancer 3 weeks before, but then had a heart attack. I certainly understood what they meant when they said, it was kind of a blessing that he didn't have to suffer through months of cancer treatment, I am sure that was a way of bringing comfort & having watched my sister go through that was hard enough on us, I can only imagine how hard it was for her & she lost the battle even with the treatments almost exactly a year later.
i grew up on dawson watching hogans heroes, then the fued. a great guy really entertaining. i just loved everything he did he was the boss. a caring man who will be remembered for fun and graciousness.
A lot of people he worked with didn't like him, but from this clip, I can't understand why...he seems like a sweet guy and obviously very romantic. She certainly made him happy!
I wrote him a letter in 09 He sent me an autographed picture...What great guy.. he came here from England and did well...Hogan's Heroes the "Match Game" and the Feud...He was in a movie in the 80's with Schwarzenegger he played the game show host(go figure) I think it was Total Recall...luckily we can still see him on GSN "salute" god bless richard
I just saw the 1966 motion picture "Munster Go Home" at an actual theater a couple of weeks ago. I hadn't seen it in years. While watching the film to my utter delight, Richard appears on the big screen. The audience started applauding! I had forgotten he was in the film! That's the kind of admiration Mr. Dawson has earned. It's wonderful to see him here. Thanks so much for sharing this.
He really was something special. Been watching the old Match Games and not only was he witty and funny, but he was smart and could read the contestants well...On Match Game some guests answer the '________' blank with what THEY think should be there, Richard always tried to actually MATCH what the contestant might say. Obviously
man im 6'4 210lbs i pulled 1 tour in the middle east then 4.5 years in prison. lissoning to this old man talk about his life... almost made me cry. ALMOST!
I just found out he passed away! :'( Nobody's perfect, but he seemed to be a man of lovely sentiments. NAM MYOHO RENGE KYO for your eternal Life, Mr. Dawson.
Wow, I knew his voice was starting to show its age in 94, I had no idea he even still appeared in public interviews. As far as I knew, he's been completely retired from show business since 1995.
It's sad seeing him like this. Being able to see him when he was still young, you know how he used to be. If he was just some other elder, I don't think people would give him the time or day.
@myusernameistaken23 Actually, since she was in college, there was no crime committed. He also didn't assault her in any way. Like now when men come up to us & think it's ok to grab even our shoulder and waist, twirl us around and we have no idea who they are.
Its good to see this interview. I always wonder how Richard is today since he's in retirement.. I miss him on tv. I watched Match Game every morning before I head to work. I don't know if his Family Feud is still on the GSN. I don't watch GSN that much anymore.
If Dawson tried a stunt like that today by asking a contestant for her number, she sue Dawson, the show and the network. Girls were different back then I guess
When he met his wife and then called her after her family left the show after losing, Gretchen was 24 and Richard was 49. He called her and they were married one year later. Ok, when I turn 49 I am sure I will get a woman who is 24 that will want to marry me too. Yeah right? lol I'll call her only by accidentally obtaining her number, and she'll hang up on me. Fame & money can get you a lot in life. Not that it can buy happiness, but it certainly helped here. I mean really... if another ordinary man twice her age would have asked for her number back then do you think she would gave given it to him? Point made!
