Richard bewilders me, it's akin to watching a trapeze artist or some incomprehensible juggling act. I see it happening, I see what he's doing, but I have no idea how one achieves it. Insanely talented.

It's like first listening to Captain Beefheart, mate (in a different era). Same dissonances, same initial reactions. Richard is a refreshing reminder that there is nothing new under the sun. Thank the Lord.

The vocal melodies are so insanely difficult, and impossible to imagine writing on top of the guitar melodies. Truly one of a kind, and immensely talented.

I love how he changes the lyrics of Civil Servant to reflect whatever video game he's playing at the moment. It's a very funny touch.

I remember when I saw Richard in Manchester three years ago. He changed “Call of Duty” to “The Last of Us Pt 2” in Civil Servant.

@@sanfordcurtis8242 He does that in this performance too. I remember seeing another video where he changes it to "Death Stranding". It's a pretty clever bit that gives the song some fun staying power.

It occurred to me today after paying a bit more attention to the lyrics of 'Tip of an Arrow' that Richard has been playing Horizon Zero Dawn. Love it - bring on a whole album revealing the internal monologue of triple AAA game characters.

It’s amazing he wrote an album called 2020 the year before the pandemic featuring the lyric ‘man on man on AN EMPTY STADIUM yells man on!’ He must have a crystal ball.

This is probably the greatest and most underrated live performance of music I've ever seen.

Richard is very special. I am completely captivated and drawn in by everything he does. There are very few artists where I read all that I can about their process, song explanations, etc, but I definitely do this with Richard. One thing I just realized though is that HE FORGOT HIS GLASSES. YOU PEOPLE AT THE BARBICAN WERE SUPPOSED TO REMIND HIM.

this performance of Ghost of a Tree is out of this fucking world lol, i dont know how he's able to pack so much emotion and viscera into an acapella tune. i think Richard is legitamately one of the most impressive performers in folk music today, every single live video i see of him he puts his all into it and he's able to just create an insanely captivating piece of art to experience, often with only his voice and a guitar. truly stunning!

Brilliant musician/singer/performer/songwriter/human being. I was hoping to see him, in norwich arts centre, in may, last year, where he came to before, and gave a breathtaking recital. Hope he stays well and comes back, soon. He really is the most authentic performer alive. I can only think of one other artist I like anything like as much, and that is Laura Marling. Love you, Richard. You are a complete original. Living legend. 😘

unfortunately I think because I recorded it using my GPU as a sound card the audio quality was affected on the recording :( I am considering rerecording if more people want its just that it costs money to view.

does anyone know what tuning he’s using ???
@dannymeshow
@dannymeshow 2 года назад
Most of his songs are tuned to an open C major chord - CGCEGC. In live performances it won't be those exact notes because he's tuning his guitar to itself by ear on stage, but it'll be within about a semitone of that. Some songs the E is tuned down a semitone to D# to make an open minor chord - I think The Queen's Head and Weaver in this performance
