Richard Hammond reviews the 1999 Alfa Romeo 166, and finds out whether or not it can be succeeded where other have failed in the large European car market, as well checking it out how it performs on the road.
I have the TS version, a '99. It's flipping magical to drive. Not as sporty and handling-focused as the 156 of course but the steering feel is superb. Good brake feel, if i had a choice i would go for the 3.0 V6, but the TS engine has a very pleasant growl and is quite pleasing to driv hard and rev out.
Yep, even the 4 cylinder Alfas sounds good! This engine is way lighter than V6, this gives better weight distribution and overall better handling in corners.
I have owned one Alfa 166 2.0 V6 Turbo for eight years...and it has been a magnificent experience to own and to drive...super dependable...with unique stanning and stylish looks much superior and distinctive than any other in its category...actually one of the best looking and driving 4 door saloons of its era....a real Concord Jet on the highway...I am thinking of rebuying one especially in the super collectible azzuro nuvola...
