Great car. My cousin had an almost identical one. He had it for more than 12 years without any problem. Unfortunately, he destroyed it in a car accident three years ago, but nothing happened to him. It was very robust. We miss it :(

Mine is 20 years old 1.9 jtd and still goes strong. 202000 on the clock and it is a very robust car.

Still fine actually. If it goes it’s an end to the relationship! Friend just bought a GTA 147 with a duff Selesspeed and is currently having it changed for a manual box, Tokyo, Japan. Price for conversion 2500GBP
@Keroppikun

@@lukemallory7832 It is, as you say, basically a manual with the shifter on top - hence a manual box change is possible using the same box. I wouldn’t buy a used Ss model because if it goes wrong there are very few parts available and replacement is costly. Having said that, the auto City mode is useful in town and when my automatic-license-only wife drives it although I always change using the push stick or (occasionally) steering wheel buttons and rarely use the auto. The 2.0 TS is a great revvy engine and much liked by this ex two stroke biker. Now on 155,000 - I have been using my bike more since traffic is horrible here in Japan as a result of COVID.

I had Sportwagon 2.0 TS Selespeed in 2003 and it stopped all of a sudden in the middle of my trip abroad (In Albania with no Alfa Romeo services!). A local mechanic found a hydraulic pump responsible for shifting gears. Replaced the brushes on the electric motor and that saved the day (vacation). I owned that car for another couple of years and I loved it. I owned a total of 6 Alfa's so far and Sportwagons are my favourites models.

I don't know what he means about steering vagueness, it doesn't have much lock, so 2 point turn become 4 but on the V6 it's razor sharp with great feedback.

JTD engines are practically undestructable, the rest of the car wasn't so tough. But what a class and what a nice ride they gave you . Maintenance on front suspension is very high when older, and they suffer from metal fatigue cracks. lifespan is about 15 yrs when lucky

***** LOL, it's obvious you don't know anything about the 156.. More durable then a bmw 3 series, mercedes c class, VW golf, which are "the benchmark" for reliability, what a joke.
@markr8326
@markr8326 8 лет назад
More durable than the bmw, merc, Vw ? says who? I've got a 156 facelift model sportwagon, it's a bloody handbag of a car. It's looks cool after a wash & a wax , 2000 euro gone into the front end alone fixing issues due to less ground clearance than a f***ing porsche(figuratively speaking) Previously had a 20 yr old Audi A4 estate ,no comparison in durability. Never felt the road. It never felt or sounded fragile. Love older Alfa's & Fiats ,even the rust buckets ,but they do your fackin head & your wallet in. If I had the money I'd get another German car. You CAN get a good bargain with an Alfa, people are 'scared' of 'em so they don't hold there value.
@epiphonesg007
@epiphonesg007 8 лет назад
Mark R Plenty of mechanics, owners and me. There was obviously something wrong with your car, since a standard 156 doesn't sit that low. 2000 euro for 2 new front springs/shocks? that's a rediculous price, for 600-700 euro you should've been set. I have plenty of friends with VW's, my mother and father drive a Mercedes (C-class W203 2006 and CLS320CDI 2013). The ownership of the CLS untill now is around 10K, just for repairs and maintenance. The C-class has been owned since 2009, and has costed her around 20k. (maintenance and repairs included). My brother drove a Alfa romeo GT for 2 years, no isseus, sold it and got a german car (OPEL INSIGNIA), after 3 months of owning it, the turbo broke down (around 100k km's), electric handbrake malfunction, the engine ran in limp mode every few days, doors don't always lock, windows mechanism broke, electric system had a complete meltdown( just like with the CLS and C-class). The C-class needed new door handles because they BOTH BROKE OFF!!(driver and passenger side). The C-class automatic sometimes misshifts, shifts hard and clunky at times and sometimes doesn't shift when it should be. There is plenty of rust on the whole car.(same thing happened to my brother's W203 C220cdi from 2002). My first car was a Alfa romeo 146 1.7boxer, which was supposedly unreliable. Never missed a beat, everything worked in the 3 years and 70k km's that i did.(and i loved revving that engine up to 7k after it has been warmed up). Second car was a Fiat stilo with the 1.9jtd 100HP engine in it, never had any problems except for the MAF because the previous dealership put the airfilter in incorrectly causing the engine to receive unfiltered air. After 200k km's total(bought it with 130k) my costs of ownership was 1000€ (only repair was the MAF which is around 270 euro's, rest was maintenance and new tires).
