I know the way
That I feel about you
Im never going to run away
Im never going to run away
Never knew the way
When I lived without you
Im never going to run away
Im never going to run away
I came to you when
No one could hear me
Im sick and weary
Of being alone
Empty streets and
Hungry faces
The worlds no place when
Youre on your own
A heart needs a home
Some people say
That I should forget you
Im never going to be a fool
Im never going to be a fool
A better life, they say
If Id never met you
Im never going to be a fool
Im never going to be a fool
Tongues talk fire and
Eyes cry rivers
Indian givers
Hearts of stone
Paper ships and
Painted faces
The worlds no place when
Youre on your own
A heart needs a home

It's wonderful to be part of a small community that loves this music. I'm 70 and have love them since day one.

My husband and I sang this song at our wedding 25 years ago. We were obsessed with Richard and Linda when we first got together and wanted to be just like them. We are still singing together after all these years.

It takes you deep in. Richard Thompson picks up a guitar but God plays. And Linda's singing is every bit as good as his playing.

Linda's recorded performances from back then have stood the test of time better than her contemporaries. She sings like the song is more important than the performance, but at the same time she is making it technically spot on.

This is a song that really demonstrates what a fantastic songwriter Richard Thompson is. I see him live every chance I get. Unfortunately I've never had the priviledge of seeing Linda live.

Deep artistry from the two of them . Quicksilver captured on film. Richard wrote such emotive imagery in his songs. Such a shame the songs are not more widely known. Simply beautiful. Linda looking and sounding amazing

Bill Brennan I do believe her parents were Scottish, and she was certainly brought up in Glasgow. I knew her brother, actor Brian Pettifer, well known for his role in the Rab C Nesbit series. You just can't get any more Scottish than he was!

This song sung and played by R&L will always make me cry and break my heart. This is from someone who will likely (like millions on this planet) be alone... no one who will love, the inability to love back... If a heart is broken, then where would the home be? That will always be a personal question.

It is wonderful that artists evolve and develop over time - you couldnt ever quarrel with a song of RT's he is such a craftsman songwriter and his playing is so fine - Must confess that my favourite era for him is from Liege and Lief up to First Light. The furious collaborations with Swarbrick and then the spiritual desolation/searching and then the reigious-tune-as-lovesong (which is an old tradition in Sufi Islam) Planet Waves to Street Legal is a similar peak IMO - the raw true stuff.
