You need to watch the video for this one to understand the story of this song. Also, i heard many years ago that Rich actually wrote this for John Farnham but he turned it down as it did not match his style ( though Rich did write many of the songs on the album of Johns that this was written for)
brilliant song and good to watch with the video as you get the story better although not sure if you can react to that, in the story he was wrongly accused of murdering Mary but it was the chief of police that did it, they let him go but the burnt his van so he left with nothing, some nice live stage videos on here of him too and he still looks great
The part of the police is to throw the viewer off. It could also be he has trouble with loss as seen with his father, and he kills his mom and boyfriend by murdering them in the fire. He couldnt deal with his girlfriend cheating on him. "i left her safe and sound". The police had a obession with her. The only one who knows who killed who is Richard and he hasn't said anything about it. :)
I read somewhere there was supposed to be three separate videos for this song. And to get the full story people had to watch all three and piece the evidence together. However I don't think the other two videos ever came to fruition and it was just left with one video.
There's a dude on RU-vid called Chase Holfelder that does minor key versions of popular songs. He did a minor version of Richard Marx' famously romantic song Right Here Waiting and it turned into the creepy stalker vibe thanks to the key change. Really worth checking it out for something different!

He accidentally killed his family in a fire as a kid. Then the whole world accused him of being a killer once he was able to get on his feet. Imagine being accused of something you didn't do your whole life

Richard Marx is more like an honourable Aussie. He’s been coming to Australia regularly for decades and is great mates with John Farnham. He’s written some great songs for John and has even performed with him.. He’s not just a fantastic singer, but he’s an amazing songwriter too. This is a song from the 80s one of my favourites.❤️
@@mssuziquzi You're quite right. I think Richard even sounds a lot like John when using belt. I wish they'd of worked more together, as one criticism of John that I have is that most of his albums aren't great, Amazing songs mixed with so-so stuff brings down that overall quality, which makes me reluctant to recommend them to people.
@@j.j.hayden9461 John is best live. His concerts are epic. I really haven’t seen anyone put so much into every song and match his high energy levels for more than two hours. The Main Event with Olivia and Anthony Warlow was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to, and the one with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra was just as fantastic. Richard Marx is one of his biggest fans, as well as being a huge talent himself.
