He is a hero of mine, but I wonder whether I would enjoy meeting him? He seems somewhat...uncomfortable talking to people, but perhaps he's just a little tired of having to answer the same basic banal questions when he's such a fantastic and innovative player.
Years ago, interviewing guitarist Steve Morse by phone for a magazine article, i asked him about the triple-bill tour he had done with Richard Thompson and David Lindley, what was that like? Steve described it as "two introverts and one extrovert" but did not clarify which was which.....I have spoken with Lindley at length at a gig, and Steve Morse ALWAYS comes out to chat and give autographs after his gigs. so yeah, RT might be a little shy...... ....
People slagging off the presenters seem to forget that for a lot of viewers, this would be their first time introduction to RT, so an in depth interview about his music and life in the time allotte was never going to be on the cards. Probably aroused enough interest for some to look into his music.....which at the end of the day was the whole point. A lot of the commenters here need to grow up!
6.04 At the end of the interview Richard drifts off to his happy place and composes a murder ballad about two smarmy TV presenters found strangled by an Elixer guitar string.
thanks for posting ,its good to see R.T. so modest he puts these plastics to shame.... as they pretend to 'dig' him[ its a bit painful ]ooh! look at his hat ..etc... never mind his hat ! listen to the yrs of experience and magic coming out of his guitar. is there a roy harper interview ?[i have seen it but cant remember if its on this show] and he says his first gig was roy harper in the 70s!. but dont let that put you off!!![lol] RT looks cool as fuck in his beret by the way!
How embarrassing, the legend that is RT being interviewed by those two clowns with remarks like "I love the beret!" I recognised "Salford Sunday " in the play-out, one of my favourite tracks from "Electric".
