Been watching your videos since like 2010 when i was in middle school. Impressed how 14 years later, you still make some of the most entertaining content. You're like the cool uncle of RU-vid
Just walked the whole length of it again right now to get the cable from the ceiling to the laptop. (Setting everything up for tonight). Bent a little bit but still holding strong! Somehow.
So just curious, do you still keep in touch at all with James Rolfe (AVGN)?, I know you sent him a NINtoaster back in the day, and you were also feAtured in his Atari jaguar CD AVGN video, but that a long long time ago(in a galaxy far away)
All my network equipment is still limited to 1Gb and files do in fact move around at full 1Gb, so it's fine for me. I'm curious, what are you doing that requires cat8? What kind of differences are you seeing?
It's shielded and works very well for outdoor since that's what I've used it for. Mainly to have a access to an ethernet plug to my back porch and kitchen. I ran Cat5e cable once and it was not good since it would work for a while until i lost connection. Possibly due to bad weather conditions or interference. I did see better results in bandwidth speeds as long as the router and modem support 2.5Gbps. I did aquire a Wifi 6e when I had installed last month. Suffice to say I should have done that sooner, now I can listen to Spotify while doing yard work.
@aemerox5773 Ah ok! Didn't know you were using it outdoors, that's interesting. Goog Fiber does offer me 2Gb downstream now, and we have 2.5Gb NICs on the main desktops, but the router and switch would need to be replaced. Pretty sure a 2.5Gb 16-port switch is still pretty cost-prohibitive right now tho.
I'm so happy you can actually stand in your attic, mine is like a fucking spelunking nightmare full of potential pitfalls. I'll save ethernet for my next house.
Oh it's awful, just finished the last length from the ceiling to the laptop out here. The testers are pretty cheap, $22 on Amazon right now. Just some no-name "Universal Network Cable Tester Tool". There's also one for $29 from the well-known company.... *squints*... NOYAFA. ~shrug~ Crap there's even one for $10 from AMPCOM if money is tight. Don't even remember where I got mine.
Hey man, good to see new content! Hope your doing good, are you active on any social media platforms? Your Nintoaster Instructionnal video inspired me to learn about electronics, I fix guitar amps nowadays. Cheers!
Hey man that's awesome! I love hearing that some silly-ass project inspired exploring new hobbies, that's great and really feels rewarding! Some even turn into full-blown careers. And yeah, I am on the socials (Twitter/X and Bluesky, same username). Finally started using the accounts around August, same time I broke the silence here on YT. Fair warning though, you may discover something about me that you don't like, I dunno. Most people don't give a shit, it's really a non-issue.🤘
@thezosokid Heheh, thanks! We've been diving into some interesting things on the live streams too. Still waiting on some parts to arrive, but we should be getting back to modding the Atari 2800 shortly. Usually stream Monday evenings, sometimes Thursdays.
I'll still be doing both. The streaming is finally getting interesting now that I'm setup out in the garage, but I know it's not for everybody. I tend to go on for like 10 hours, no joke.
AHH YEAH, good ol' "oops i fucked up and need more cable" technique, it saved my clumsy ass many many times :D btw, we didn't see charlie the plastic taped ball, did he move to the basement ?
Hahahah! Ah, Charlie is still up there, on the other side of the air handler. Maybe we'll go rescue him someday. Will need another one of those little Mobius cams again tho. Broke mine. :C
@@ultramatt9562 Yeah it may not be convenient buuut I just ran a test out in the garage right now... Wired: 945Mbps down / 930Mbps up. | Wireless: 222Mbps down / 218Mbps up. Yes I guess I could technically still stream with those speeds but... HARDWIRED4LYFE! 🤘😎🤘 I wanna leave the airwaves open for other crap like the phones and Roku boxes, etc.
@@vomitsaw thats actually really cool, I’m glad you’re getting better internet! my internet is also texan and increadibly slow, like its for some reason it goes to 20 to 30 mbps, idk whats wrong with it. maybe we have to replace it or switch to a different newtwork, idk
