Such a wonderful life. So nice to know that there were such good men in the world. Responsible, heard working, creative, a good husband and a good father. Just lovely.
One of my very favorite actors Richard Widmark! You knew it was a good movie if he was in it. Thank you Jerry and R.I.P Mr . Widmark. We will never see your likes again!
He not only took care of his wife in her later years, he took care of his brother. He was injured during the war and Richard made sure he was cared for and his medical care was taken care of. He was such a good person. I always like him.
I absolutely LOVE anything he starred on as he was one Hell of an actor! I understand he also had a very strong personal character. He openly received Sidney Portier (WAAAY before segregation was popular!) at his home and even took him under his wing. One of my all-time favorites! R.I.P. Richard Whitmark!
Richard was a wonderful man. And actor. He was so good at acting that I, and many others, thought he was really the mean SOB that he played in movies. He was so good. Thank you Jerry for this great story of his life. He was so special and good.
What an actor, what a man! If only we all could live our lives as Mr. Widmark did, what a beautiful world we would have. Thanks Jerry. A fitting and wonderful job you did with this. I think he would be proud of your work.
As a child in the 1950’s, going to a movie once a week on Friday night, I was always pleased to see Richard Widmark in a western. He seemed to have a presence. He exerted a gentle energy that I felt, but that I’ve never been able to ‘peg’. A while back I purchased a DVD called (I think) ‘Night in the City’ . I was almost shocked to see that he could truly act! This must have been part of what I sensed as a child.
Mr. Skinner, many thanks for the superb manner in narrating about these Hollywood stars. Richard Widmark was always one of my favorites and you did an outstanding job. All the best!!
This was a very talented man, always thought of him as an icon, his acting was top notch too bad he did not win an award. RIP Richard Widmark, he is a one of a kind of an actor.....
My kind of "MAN!!!!"They don't come any better then this!!!!Honest, hard working,Commited to ones family and friends!!!Thank you Richard your "Example" which will never be forgotten!!!! From a loyal fan since the Fifties!!! June 2 , 2019.
He was a great actor I always liked him . You know he always came across as a cynical sort of character on the screen , even when he was playing nice guy roles . He was nothing like that in real life and that's a testimony on how good an actor he actually was . What a lucky lady his wife was , a completely devoted loving husband and father . A rare gem of a man especially in Hollywood. R.I.P. dear Richards Widmark
How can anyone give this a thumbs down? Thumbs down for what? Such a wonderful man. Thanks for the tribute! I love his movies and obviously he was an exemplary human too!
great documentary/biography. Richard Widmark was a great character actor, ... but an even better human being and husband/father. glad to see how you emphasized that fact.
I was so happy that an actor that I admired so much, was a great man, husband, father and son too. Thank you for a great job ,that brought us a wonderful story about him.
Thank you Jerry, that was lovely to watch. What a nice man Richard Widmark was, and one of a kind in Hollywood to stay with his wife for 55 years. What a special Human Being.
Love Richard Widmark .. talented, handsome....and a faithful husband.( now I know there was a good reason why I was in love with him )..what a man....( where can I find one just like him )... thank you for the beautiful video, with so many interesting details and information....he will forever be my favorite actor...an epitome of a gentleman.......greetings and again thank you .....from Seattle, Washington........
Widmark was one of my most beloved actors. He had a very distinctive presence on screen. I liked him more as he got older. I remember an interview he gave towards the end of his career. He was asked if his acting style had changed over time. He replied, "Less is more." I believe he meant that it's not necessary to overthink or overact the part. I enjoyed his performances very much. He was unique. He will be missed.
Thanks for so many great memories Jerry. I loved Richard Widmark from the first time I saw him in 'The Street with No Name'. I was 6 at the time and never forgot his great performance then, and his many since. He had a unique and unforgettable face ideally suited to tough guy roles, I felt. All your work is much appreciated Jerry.
Thanks for this wonderful video. I saw Night and the City as a kid and it stayed in the back of my mind for years. When I saw it again as a grownup, I realized that it was Widmark's performance that made the movie indelible. He always seemed more a working actor than a movie star and he left behind a master class in film acting, from his defining bad-guy roles to self-effacing character work. A couple of other terrific Widmark performances that are worth seeking out: Skip McCoy in Pickup on South Street (from Samuel Fuller) and a beautiful late-career character study as the sheriff in "A Gathering of Old Men".
Always the Gentleman in pictures often captured him so much different than in life. I am honoured to have seen him in so many movies and I am very blessed for that, Richard
"For you, Dick, I would have walked." This is the stuff. You are a good biographer, Mr. Skinner, but you are also a great storyteller, and it is always a joy to peruse your work.
Jerry your voice & your insatiable desire to dig DEEP leaving no Stones UNTURNED in order to deliver the VERY BEST BIOGRAPHIES! I salute you for bringing Richard Widmark's life story to all of us, what a GREAT MAN he was! Thanks ever so much❤️
What a perfectly done and lovingly done bio. Perfect in every way ! Richard Widmark's story is fascinating and it is no surprise that he is a man of integrity ... I have always thought he was ... ya can just tell in a person ... even if they are playing a lout or a thug ... he was a good man.
I had no Idea Widmark was such a loving man, family and friends ,....but ...he was such a fantastic actor ,convincing, versatile and professional . He was a good man ,good feelings , honesty , may he rest in peace always.
Jerry, There is so much I did not know about Richard Widmark! What a wonderful actor and person he was! We are losing them all now and I am very sad about that, there will never be stars like these again. Thank you so much for all your videos Jerry, they are excellent.. Anne
Jerry, your videos are absolutely wonderful and could be used as teaching materials they are of such high quality. God Bless You for your efforts and live long and prosper.
What a special man ,I never new anything about his personal life . Being exposed to all the beautiful women he was exposed to ,and remain loyal to his wife is a milestone in itself . He was a great brother, husband, father, son, Actor and human being, John Wayne told him he wasn’t big enough!!HaHaHa I guess the Duke had to eat those words !😂😂😂 Thank you Jerry for a great story ,justice was done in a story I’m sure Richard approved of . You are really a very talented man !🙏👏👏👏👏👏
Even as a kid I loved watching Richard Widmark act for he was such a great actor and to learn he was a very nice gentleman with good virtues too throughout his entire life.RIP Mr.Widmark you are missed.
Thank you for such a great bio on him. Mister Widmark was never given the credit that he deserved. He was a great actor he could pull you in you forgot you were watching the movie if you were watching him. There were a lot of great actors in his time and that was probably part of it. And unfortunately he was also type cast at the beginning of his work and forced to do a lot of contract movies. But most of them were really good even if they were just contract movies. He was a gentleman and I think he exuded the fact that he wasn't a cheat he wasn't a drinker he was honest.
All these years I've wondered if Richard was anything like the villains he played. So pleased to find out he was a kind and gentleman. Really appreciate your work Jerry. So far all of your videos along with your narration, with fantastic collection of photos and life information is extremely entertaining. I'll keep on watching!
Jerry, I throughly enjoy your videos. I have watched all of them. You do an excellent job of researching and putting them together. Thank you for all of the hard work. Peace to you and God Bless!
Mr Skinner......I really enjoy your documentaries. Each one is very well made, and I hope you're able to make many more. Thank you very much from and old Marine.
just superb jerry! i just loved richard widmark, and remember him making an appearance on the old i love lucy show. thank you for this! what a marvelous gentle soul he was.
Thank you, Mr. Widmark, for the many films from The Last Wagon onwards, you and Mr. Gregory Peck were and still are my favorite actors, I watch your movies over and over, and I know there are millions out there of the same opinions. May you rest in peace with your family you will never be forgotten. God bless Clive & Pamela Mainwaring.
This was such a well-done piece on Mr. Widmark. I enjoyed every minute of it. I never knew much about him, but always enjoyed seeing him onscreen. Thank you.
A touching and sincere tribute, part of a wonderful series... Understated and all the more powerful for it. With Richard Widmark being a deserving subject. Think Film Noir, think Widmark.
Mr. Skinner! My hat's off to you. You are a true Master in the preparation and presentation of biographical profiles. I had NO idea who Richard Widmark was off the screen. He was the absolute personification of an honorable gentle caring man with a heart of gold.
Ive watched several of these, n they TRULY make me think @ life, these people really lived, enjoyed life, they loved otheres it seems so much more than themselves, what great life lessons i have found here, thank you Jerry for such a great work of telling these incredible stories of absolutely incredible people, i am so much better for it...
Thank you Jerry...this one on Richard Widmark....one of your best! what a beautiful & tastefully done tribute to a great star, a fine actor...& as I now know...one of "Nature's Gentlemen". So refreshing, especially compared to todays Trash Kulture..Kardashians & suchlike! I loved Widmark's films...my personal fave was The Last Wagon...NOT particularly well-known, but a classic in my opinion, with spectacular scenery...outdoor photography well ahead of its time (mid 1950s, when films were really only 'starting' to go on location. This film co-starred Dick with a lovely, delicate actress called Felicia Farr...never saw her again..sad to say! Being an Irish Australian, I cant ALWAYS 'pick up' all the dialogue...but I still find your accent AND narration very SOOTHING! I have been fortunate enugh to have travelled extensively in the USA...& a lot around The Old South...so im not ENTIRELY unfamiliaf with the "idioms" Thank you Jerry...for all the work (& research!) that you obviously put into your videos! So informative; so ENJOYABLE! God bless you! & Greeings from Sydney, Australia-- "Down Under" !
many years ago, while at the Roxbury market I met Richard , he was at the gas pump in short pants and rubber boots, he was getting gas for a mower, he was absolutely wonderful, we spent some minutes talking, but not about movies, just things in general, I was a bread delivery driver. we saw each other a few more times, he made me feel so good because he remembered my name. a special man in my heart
Thank you Jerry, that was so moving I was a life long fan and always admired his character and basic decency. Just wish someone would publish a similar book of his life and work.
I am grateful i'm as old as I am, I just found these videos and have spent the weekend watching them, I love to listen to your easy way of talking, I have seen every one of these movies and still watch them on TCM Thank you for doing this.
Jocelyn Carter: What a actor, husband, and friend! Mr. Widmark had a beautiful charm life, and I'm happy to hear about that because I really liked him in whatever movie I saw him in. Rest in peace to the whole family. His movies will last forever because of tv and video and oh yeah, DVDs!
He played opposite David Carridine in a movie called "Mr. Horn". He played Al Sieber...an army scout who helped track Geronimo. " My bad leg is now my good leg!" Wonderful actor
Always liked Widmark, caught him in a western with Robert Taylor last evening, "The Law and Jake Wade," good western. After Tommy Edo, who would have thought Widmark would end up a leading man. Thanks for the video.
What I'll always remember about this man was his Amazing Dedication to his Family and especially his Grandmother who often helped embrace his love of Tom Mix.. Like so many others have shared before and I'm sure long after I'm gone about how Decent a Man he was!! He set the mark for Hollywood Stars that would be one of the longest for many years..... Congrats Jerry!!
I always thought Richard was a B-movie player until last year, when I got to see his most famous films, and now I have so much more respect for him. He either played a convincing maniac in Noir movies, or the dependable ranch hand in cowboy films, and I think he is a forgotten star who needs this sort of high recognition. I love the title 'Hollywood Gentleman'. Great to hear stories about the Van Heflin's, Robert Ryans and Van Johnson's, who we never get to hear about these days, as well as the heroes like Lon Chaney Jnr and Burt Lancaster.
Mr. Skinner, thank you for all of your postings. Its so incredible to learn about all these people i grew up watching, though they are gone you have lovingly preserved their memories, thank you sir, thank you so much.
his faithfulness must have been sorely tested when he starred with the stunning jean peters in the brilliant, 'pickup on south street,' in which some say both richard & jean gave their finest performances.
Very well done, indeed. The voice of this piece sounds like stunt man turned great cowboy actor, Richard Farnsworth who passed in 2000. I love Richard Widmark. I'm a little older than his daughter. My own father died when I was only eight. I grew up watching father figures on the big screen and Richard Widmark was one of those male actors.
Thank you, Jerry, for your exceptional videos. As a person of 'a certain age,' I appreciate learning so much about the stars I grew up with An era will we will sadly never see again. Your videos are so professionally done, very imformative and lovingly narrated. Thank you
Jerry thank you so much for this short biog of Richard Widmark, an actor I have always respected and enjoyed watching. I liked him a lot in an unusual film for him: Night and the City a British made film in which he played a hustler and club tout whose plans to control wrestling in London lead him into a dilemma that finishes him off. He is absolutely brilliant in it. Not a western but a film noir which I think is his best performance, even better than his debut. Keep these biogs coming Jerry!!!
This is a great tribute to Richard Widmark. His dedication to his wife and marriage is refreshing. I had no idea who this man was, now that I do, I am impressed. Jerry, thank you for posting this.
Thank you once again for a great job. A loyal husband till the end. Wonderful actor seen lots of his films while growing up. Love your biographies Mr. Skinner. ALL of them.
The man was an original and carried a well-respected reputation as a gentleman like the purpose of giving back the respect he earned, God blessed your wonderful life my friend Richard Widmark your Princeton boyhood home is about 35 miles west of Ottawa, Illinois my hometown. Thank you, Robert.
When I was a kid, and I watched Kiss Of Death, and he pushed that old bag down the stairs, and laughed that laugh, I knew right then and there that Richard Widmark was beyond actor status. He was a STAR! I love Widmark!
I know people that feel the same way,,But I always gave him the benefit of the doubt of being a respectable human being...Not like the phony cowboy hero, draft dodging racist Jonh Wayne
